Found this quite interesting, it's a flash movie of Facebook and how it's connected with collecting intelligence on everyone.

What the hell is the Information Awareness Office and why does it have a 13 step pyramid-with-an-eye looming over the world as its symbol ?

Why anyone would want to sign up to these types of sites is beyond my comprehension...but then, I'm a very private person anyway, lol.
My local evening news ran a story about facebook a few nights ago (first time I'd heard of it) - saying people going for job interviews were being caught lying or omitting significant information about themselves to prospective employers. Basically the employers were using mysapce, facebook & twitter to get the "real deal" on people they were interviewing!
Well if people will be so silly as to advertise themselves so blatently on the net, then more fool them IMO.

I did not know what it was all about when 'a friend' asked me join.
So I put on photo's in the album etc. to keep relatives happy, :(
Now today when I log in it tell me 'enter your mobile number'
to verify log-in blah blah.
So clever them have got your name, photos, mobile, religion
& politics!
(if you dumb enough to fill in all this stuff)
My friends think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
But they don't the truth how they can track you and have
all your info now - even a profile - more info than at
Home Affairs - all that face book is missing is the fingerprints!!

I dodged joining MySpace for a long time but when I was checking out my friends pages I spotted an old friend I hadn't seen for 15+ years. I got back in touch with him through MySpace and we hooked up and hung out a while after. It was great. Just recently a friend I haven't seen for about 17 years turned up on MySpace.
I have frinds that have moved all over the UK and in some cases to different parts of the world and makes it a lot easier to stay in touch with them. I've also made friends online over the years that are on MySpace. All in all I'm very glad I joined although I'm toying with the idea of moving to www.virb.com but I need to persuade a lot of people to do the same.
Facebook is different though. A friend of mine who had joined Facebook was telling me how when you spot a friend you have to give all this information before you can add them such as where you met them, how you know them, how long you've known them, etc. She seemed quite uncomfortable with this so I sent her that little Flash movie about it. She did some research on Google and found a bunch of articles that backed up what the Flash movie was saying and canceled her Facebook account. She got a bunch of her friends to do the same.

iv got a myspace, but before i had a bebo (also known as "for people who cant work out myspace!")
i found when i first got it, it sucked me in, i wanted to always check up on it, untill one day i just thought to myself.. this so sad! who care about virtual friends, i should talk to my friends in person instead over this!
so i only go on it occasionally when i have nothing better to do. so sadly iv been on it a bit in my summer holidays!
but what really really irritates me is the new "myvainspace" where people (esspecially) girls take loads of pictures of them self with big pouty lips and wides eye. its disgusting and they dont look good
