here be serpents
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Python
this page gives a couple of meanings for the name of the act and also the backgrounds of the performers .I know we all love python and most here in the UK at least where brought up on it and can quote numerous sketches .Take a look at the subject matter the holy grail the life of Brian the meaning of life ? And now for something completely different ? or is it the same old same old just sold in a different way .I enjoy the films and series dont get me wrong but given the oxford and Cambridge backgrounds of these people ,incidentally where most BBC at least TV comedians hailed from thru the 60's 70's and 80's and beyond, should we perhaps look a bit deeper into the python cult ,although most societies pre Christian venerated the serpents as givers of wisdom there are two sides to every story .Thats just in 2 dimensional book form how many sides in 3D 4 D and beyond i wonder .

Yeah agreed, I love the show and films, etc, but have seen pics of these guys hanging out with other known famous people (beatles etc...) and the whole vibe I get is yeah, they are in on this - especially hate to think it of Terry Gilliam whose films I love - - -
Incidentally, have you seen The Aristocrats? (will need a sick bag) - it just made me realize how many comedians are in on this, and do a lot of thinking about the genre of comedy in mainstream media - why it just constantly re-enforces sterotypes, etc...

Recently thought about the ufo alien incident in the life of Brian as well .Truth revealed or planting info in the general public . There is an Eddie izzard thread here along similar lines about how comedy influences people . while we are in relaxed state of mind and laughing do we allow more subtle programing in ? :D
