WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Americans
have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices' first major
pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history. The court's 5-4 ruling struck down
the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns as incompatible with gun
rights under the Second Amendment.
But, my tinfoil hat tells me there is more to this than meets the eye, especially
since Bush said he was in favor of this sort of ruling.

I graduate gunsmithing at the end of this year. Thanks for the link. ^_^ Great news. Only 5-4? What bollocks! It should be 10-0.

I was a liitle surprised when I heard about this today, I thought they would keep moving to unarm the public. It is good to know the court if upholding the right to bear arms.

I felt the same way--:) I hope this is a move to strengthen the Bill of Rights which have been greatly eroded the past few years.

This then gives the right of shoot to kill to the police as they can always say we thought he/she had a weapon and we thought they were going to use it on us!!!!!!!!
i agree there is more to this than on the surface.
From the NY times article here http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/27/washington/27scotuscnd.html
"The Supreme Court ruling is likely to play out in this year’s elections, as Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, made clear. “I applaud this decision as well as the overturning of the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns and limitations on the ability to use firearms for self-defense,” Mr. McCain said in a statement, which contained a reminder that his Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, refused to join him in signing an amicus brief in support of overturning the district’s law."
HMMMM this absolutely has future PRS written all over it. A long time ago I read somewhere that they won't really need gun control since all this RF stuff can incapacitate everyone. That sounds a bit nuts to me, but I'm definately seeing these masts and towers springing up everywhere now so maybe keep it in mind.

Yes, indeed it does.
My guess: horrendous shooting incident(s), blamed on this ruling, resulting in a reversal.

you people from england really don't get it because guns are already banned where you live and they were able to be honest about disarming people. In America OF COARSE they will say the bill protects gun rights when it does exactly the opposite, have you actually read the bill? It say's that you have the right to get a permit and to be put in a data base and that the government can put restrictions on people for various reasons such as mental health, and since they consider everyone to have mental health problems and want everyone on perscription drugs...you get the picture. In the 90's they tried to be honest about taking peoples guns and there was a HUGE rebelion and they lost, now the media and NRA which was covertly created FOR gun controll just say that this bill is a major victory for the 2nd ammendment when it is in reality TOTAL DOUBLE SPEAK.

Heard the same on republicbroadcasting.org yesterday, and that they (anti-gun lawyers) are trying to say the right to bear arms is for militia, not personal defence, and the militia is now... the National Guard. Eventually the amount of restrictions are going to mean no one is eligable.
That said, people are wising up and gun sales are going through the roof, so all publicity is good publicity as they say.
They weren't honest about disarming us in the UK though. They had to pull off the Dunblane massacre, killing 16 5 year old children. The gunman got his gun from MP Michael Forsyth and (Lord) George Robertson, who then became head of NATO for his services rendered to the Crown. He then put a 100 year D-Notice/ gagging order on the case as killer Hamilton had so many links to the heirachy and paedophile rings in boys/youth clubs. The criminality surrounding the banning of guns in the UK is astonishing.

Something to consider, but also I wonder if that was the original plan. I believe that the school shootings were a plan to completely rid the population of guns, but it didn't work nearly as well as they liked. But they always have backup plans, of course.
