I had a lovely (if wet) weekend camping near a town called Almwch, Anglesey for the solstice weekend. The weather on Saturday was terrible so as it cleared up on the Sunday night I sat out around the campfire till late, making the most of the dry weather.
Just as I was contemplating going to bed (around 3am), I noticed the sky was clear and all the stars visible. I spotted one star that seemed to be moving slowly so I called over my friend to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I have seen shooting stars before but It didn't move in this way.
This object had looked just like any other star (perhaps a bit blueish) until it started moving. It was very slow at first and just started drifting along in an almost diagonal direction. Then it moved down quickly in a straight line. At this point it was obvious it was controlled in some way. After this movement it just sat there for maybe a minute before slowly moving in a huge arc that followed the sky down to the horizon in the west and seemed to pick up speed as it did so. (I had first seen it in the South west.) It's almost impossible to tell I know, but with the object seeming to follow the curve of the sky and meet the horizon it would seem it was a lot lower in the sky than it first seemed. How big this would make it, I don't know. The object was also completely silent.
I checked the rest of the 'stars' and I found another moving object in the West. This one moved slowly and randomly in different directions stopping every now and again until I got tired of watching. I couldn't make out any other 'moving stars' so I went to bed. There had been three of us watching in the end.
The next day I mentioned it to the farm owners and they said that a couple had recently reported being followed by something in their car. There is also an RAF base called RAF Valley near Holyhead on the Island. I was interested to learn there is a place nearby, a headland called Great Orme that has been a centre of UFO activity for years.
When I got back home yesterday I was pleasantly surprised to find a multitude of UFO reports around North Wales and Merseyside. It seems alot of these have featured lights in formation though, not individual objects.
I am planning to set up a telescope next time I go ( should be a couple of weeks) and it would be great to get some video of what I saw. If there are any Anglesey residents out there who saw something similar, I would love to know.
