While watching the footie tonight, at the half-time ad breaks I was struck by the blatancy of this ad for Mercedes Benz. Listen carefully to what is being said and then notice what the slogan is at the end:

Mercedes Benz 'I am' Commercial (http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/unitedkingdom/mpc/mpc_unitedkingdom_website/en/home_mpc/passengercars/home/passenger_cars_world/I_am_Mercedes-Benz_2.flash.html#chapter=1)

The version on the website is slightly different to what I saw on tv. At the end of the tv version 'Mercedes Benz' was down in the bottom right corner of the screen and the words 'I am' sort of faded in front of it and then faded out as if to draw extra attention to them.

I've been noticing an increasing number of adverts recently with spiritual overtones, as if they are sticking spiritual truths right in our face but subverting them. Is this their way of getting in first? You know, put this stuff out there in a dumbed down form in advertising so our subconscious absorbs it and then can't recognise REAL spiritual truth when we come across it.

I can't remember off hand what all the others are but I know one of the ITV digital channels had an ad for their service banging on about 'freedom' and my dad saw an ad for one of those dodgy lawyer/claims people with a strong spiritual slant. Here are a couple more:

well spotted sevenworlds, i did a thread on this on handbag.com trying to show the people how advertising masters use sacred symbolism to tempt you to buy their products, by filling those holes in your life and "being"...

course they didn't get it. ;)

But you're totally right, and it's everywhere, Mercedes is one of the worst, as is Volkswagon, who have slogans such as LOVE=DRIVE and PEACE OF MIND...

Not to mention coca cola, i can't walk round any street corner now without spotting the outline of the worshipped coke bottle icon with rays of light surrounding it...drives me  well used to, i'm cooler nowadays since having my atlas bone put back in place ;)

at least you know you're not alone in pointing this stuff out sevenworlds :)

ahhh I AM what i BUY, what I OWN...

Hi celtic isis,

Yes, this kind of stuff is going to go over (or maybe that's straight in? :p) most peoples' heads. I mean, there hasn't been much response to it even on here so far which might be telling.

There's no way they are using such terms accidently. 'I Am' Mercedes Benz - I mean, what kind of a slogan is that if not a piece of spiritual manipulation?

i know you're right sevenworlds, and i'm amazed there hasn't been more replies here on it  like you i think it's fascinating this subject, i mean it's so obvious how people are manipulated like this, they erode your spiritual self day in day out and then use it against you offering you their shite products to give you back your SELF...grrrrr, at least we can see through it :)

ah tsarion would love this thread ;) been trying to wach him on google vid right now but it's not working

hope you're doing well, how's miss sevenworlds? :)
