Did anyone see a comet like object in the sky 21:45ish last night (19.6.08) travelling east to west over northeast england, very bright possibly mag -11. It did have a sort of tail, we don't know if it was something just burning up in the atmosphere, or as i said a comet. After checking there are no comets in our orbit greater than mag 12. Did any one else see it?

Naaah! It wasn't a comet. If you were to see a comet you wouldn't see it move it would appear as just another star but you would notice it's place in the sky moving from night to night at a much faster pace than the planets.
sounds like a shooting star to me, they come in many variations big small long short streaks and flashes, August is best time to see lots in one night but anytime is possible. Just keep looking up!
