Does anyone here have any experience and success with dowsing to find underground water?
Or has anyone sucessfully used any other form of finding water underground?
(aside from drilling)
I'm interested...need to find site for a well in ground that is mostly granite.
Any help would be appreciated.:D

I've been divining water since I was a little kid after seeing my dad doing it with a Hazel rod.I always used those metal coat hangers cut to size and bent to a right-angle a third of a way down.
I've seen the dowsing rods you can buy but they always have balls on the end of them which means that the rods are always going to draw together becouse they're weighted at the end.
First you need to find out if you can do it so my advice it to do the coathanger thing and experiment with it by walking over bridges crossing streams and rivers.
Dont hold the rods with your thumb and finger becouse you will subconsciously move the rods yourself. Grasp the rods in your fists so you're just making a fist like you would to punch someone and the rods are in the middle touching your palm. This way its impossible to move the rods yourself.
If it works, the rods will start to cross over each other or come apart.TRy not to think bout what you're doing becouse your mind will interfere.
Years ago I used to cycle home from work where I had to cross a small bridge over a river. Every time I went over the river,I'd swerve to one side and nearly crash into the side. It was only when I realised what I was essentially riding on a giant divining rod that I conciously made an effort to control my bike as I crossed the river and after that I didnt swerve so try and think about something else other than what you're doing.

yeah just what the i s said with the coathangers works well.
Go into a focus/med and walk around, it will work. I didn't trust myself so I got someone in and fuck me he picked the same spots I did.
I'm not special or anything so it works for everybody.

Hey the itinerant shrubber and boots, thanks for the input.
I didn't realize you could use a coathanger, so do you think metal works better than wood?
And I am assuming the 90 degree anges are the handles right?
I'm going to experiment with it and see what happens.
Thanks again:)

I'm unconvinced they work. Kinda like how fortune tellers work. Has anyone pitted a diviner against someone just drilling holes randomly?
Here's a nice little documentary that includes the work of a diviner:
Off the Grid - Les Stroud (http://opposingdigits.com/vlog/?p=2269)
In short, he has to dig in several areas because he hits bed rock. He may have been better off with some sonar technology.

I have no experience but once saw spoke to a guy who was dowsing energy lines at some ruined stone circles near where I am living. I tried it but didn't get a result but he said it was just a matter of getting the nack.
I've used rods to find water pipes on the road I was living on. I cut a coat hanger in half and suspended the ends I was holding in two halves of a drinking straw.
I gave them to a friend to see if he could replicate my results. He did and it freaked him quite a bit: he asked me how it happened, as if I'd made them cross over the pipe.
I've not tried dowsing for energy lines or what have you, though. I've not got the patience to plot the results on a map. Also, I'd not know what I was looking at even if I could create such a map!
I once saw a water board man using dowsing rods. Don't know if it's the usual way of finding out of the way/unmapped pipes, but probably worth a try.

Well thanks for your replies everyone. I haven't tried to experiment with this yet, but I'm finding it all more and more interesting everyday and would like to try my hand at it.
However...I met someone who knows a woman dowser and swears by her. (she found water for him)
Well this guy introduced me to her, and she came up to the site where I am looking for water, and she quickly found two areas with water to dig for a well.
What really floored me is that she said one of the places shouldn't be used because there is gas in there, but the other one is good and "is 70 feet down, and will give you 7 gallons a minute"!:eek:
I am amazed...we shall see if she is accurate!:)

Hi all~
thought I'd chime in for whatever it's worth.
My grandmother was a housing developer. She moved to a town called Ojai in California in the early 1940's. She was determined to develop the hill side of the valley and was told it could never be done because there was no water in the area. My mother tells me she found water using divining rods. The area is now developed and one of the more "prestigious" parts of town. My grandmother had no "special powers" that I know of, other than determination and faith that she could. Hope this helps.

Hi mauimamma:)
That is a cool story about your grandmother...I definitely believe determination is key to success.
From what I witnessed with the dowser I met, (she used an applewood rod) and from some of the replies to this thread, I'm thinking that this is something that people just get a feel for and become really accurate with it. I imagine it takes some practice, and like I said it is really starting to interest me a lot. I'm wondering what is the science behind it?? What makes the rod move? I want to try it out myself:D

Hey madthumbs...just finished watching that video. Thanks, it is very interesting. Free power rules!!:)
I have read about different experiments pitting a diviner against drilling for water, and like comparing most studies and experiments there are a lot of conflicting outcomes.
Although in the film the diviner is accurate in his locations...it is just too hard to drill through. The problem with drilling holes randomly to find water is that is can get extremely expensive...about $4000 for each attempt around here!

I'm guessing its got something to do with the fact that we're 70% water ourselves therefore the water in our bodies is going to react with other bodies of water on some vaguely electromagnetic level. Holding a rod in your hands is just like attaching a gauge to yourelf so the reaction becomes visible.
Same with energy lines. If we walk over lines of electromagnetism, our bodies are going to react to it.

Interesting, I see your point but I'm not sure I understand completely.
Maybe that is why I find it so fascinating.
