Here in the states on the Discovery Channel we have a show called Future Weapons. I don't know if you have it there in the UK but the show profiles "defense" technologies in developement. Mostly new and improved ways to kill more people a whole lot faster.

This dragon skin armor was recently profiled. It's a vest with overlapping scales that deflect and dissipate bullets and their energy. Soon the US troops (and eventually British troops I suppose) will have scales just like their generals, Presidents, and Prime Ministers.
