View Full Version : Are Brits as dumbed-down as Americans?

I am constantly amazed/dismayed at the level of dumbing-down that is so apparent in this country (US). Watching TV (yes, I watch TV, a nice, big 50-inch HDTV) I see car commercials that are obviously CGI vehicles doing absolutely amazing things, like driving on buildings. The advertisers find it necessary to display a disclaimer at the bottom, clarifying that their cars cannot actually drive on buildings.
In a recent publicity campaign for "Adult Swim", a late-night cable cartoon program, people in Boston were terrified by some sort of display that depicted a cartoon character giving "the finger" (I didn't see one, but someone I know did. He wasn't frightened). Read the FOX news report about it:

As you can see, the city of Boston was paralyzed with fear. People were arrested.
So, obviously people have become pretty stupid. I blame public school, primarily, but the pervasive atmosphere of fear, whether imposed or invited (have you noticed how many gory fright movies have been released lately?) keeps people's consciousness at a lower vibrational energy.

I too am amazed at how dumb and uneducated people are in USA. In Britain many people even laugh at how dumb they are in america. However having spent time in both countries I would say they are even dumber in Britian. The averagve british citizen is very dumb and ignorant, the british media is appalingly bad but because they have grown up with it and don't know any better they imagine it is brilliant. The biggest news stories in the last few weeks involve a fat girl from Celebrity Big brother, her only claim to celebrity is that she was on BB previously, a fat stupid girl and it is truly amazing at how many people read about her watch her etc, and know all other sorts of useless information that the tabloid media spews out at them. they don't know much about the world outside of their own radius but they know all about the private lives of Britney, Jade, tv soap actors, mediocre footballers, all sorts of other famous karaoke singers etc. Britain is the least cultured and least educated country I have visited, followed by USA. In the past 50 years Britain has dumbed down enormosuly, and it has accelerated at a shocking rate in recent years. the next generation are fat, ugly and ignorant

generally speaking it seems the US people are more likely to accept without question crap like GM food and forced vaccinations, forced psychological testing for kids so they can push more drugs and can be more dogmatic and patriotic than many Brits. I believe the cops are far worse in the US, you just don't mess with the cops in the US. Corruption there seems to be a bit more open and in your face.
The GM companies have had a real hard time getting Europeans in general to accept GM food for example which i believe is in 75% of US food products and generally speaking again we seem to be more aware of things like bovine growth hormone in milk and things like that which is why in the UK we have a booming organic food market and demand labels on food that they would not tell you in the US.
Having said that we have a huge underclass of uneducated people in the UK who have been dumbed down and they have had to make the exams and qualifications in schools far easier to pass so no one will notice, apart from many of us who have as over 90% pass these exams which we know is BS and its getting worse all the time as we have masses of the younger generation who will never grow questioning things and worse their dumbed down parents who allow their children to be fingerprinted in UK schools without ever seeing the bigger picture.
Probably not much difference really between the US or the UK apart from what i mentioned at the top with the exception that the US has a massive prison population, while in the UK career criminals just get a slap on the wrist as the Gov likes to keep us terrorized by them and gives them an excuse to bring in more big brother spying and the so called Nanny State.

Here in the greatest propagndized nation on God's well trodden earth there is almost no awareness of the danger posed by GM and other "food" products on the shelves. I personally only know four people who are aware of this frightening threat.
We currently house one quarter of the earth's prison population and apparently we are also building concentration camps.
No one I talk to on campus is aware of the 9--11 cover up and I have yet to convince even one person of the truth.
Perhaps most disturbing to me is the obssession with the unreal. People will repeat commercial bits and jingles like they think that's witty conversation. And quote sports stats like they really are bits of crucial news. I am not saying we as a people are stupid but that we as a people are extremely mind controlled. And extremely complacent.
When I listen to the news in my car the top story more often than not is economic and when people discuss the war or generally any issue they almost invariably cite the economy as reason to justify everything. The right/wrong good/bad debates are only to be used as a last resort as that is considered a weak argument.

. Watching TV (yes, I watch TV, a nice, big 50-inch HDTV) First of all nice boast about the TV, 50in HD aint that special when you got bigger, I have, but I'm only teasing with you, its great to be able to be proud of something you have worked hard for, to see it take centre stage in the livingroom, in all its glory with a big beefed up game or movie, nothing beats it.... its all good energies....priceless.
I see car commercials that are obviously CGI vehicles doing absolutely amazing things, like driving on buildings. The advertisers find it necessary to display a disclaimer at the bottom, clarifying that their cars cannot actually drive on buildings. now that is stupid, that is taking the complete piss out of the people....

Things in my neck of the woods are fine...for now, but the rot is setting in, but not to that extreme. I love the scary films, I always end up hidng my eyes but I still like them, the films don't lower your vibration unless you let it, whats scary to one person is fun to another, its all perception at the end of the day, just how we deal with it. People allow themselves to be scared, by listening to all the government spin, they are scared of their own shadow these days, and that is truly sad, school definately is playing a part in conditioning the children but its up to the parents at home to teach their kids differently, I did this with mine and the difference between my kids and others is remarkable.

the next generation are fat, ugly and ignorant
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hy6O0IMLJ4
That video is terrifying. I couldn't stand to watch more.
I spent some time travelling in the mid-west, around Missouri, Arkansas, some time in Texas. Fat, ugly, and ignorant are the words that come to mind.
I currently homeschool my granddaughter, but she interacts with children in the neighborhood that attend public school. She's constantly telling me stories of their poor mentality, and most of these children are older than her (she's 9). They spend much of their time playing violent video games and watching wasteful TV (American Idol, ridiculous "reality" shows (similar to Big Brother, I suppose), etc.). I allow it because (1) she gets to see first hand the results of public schooling and (2) her presence may help these children through osmosis.
OK, we've established that extremely low levels of intelligence are widespread. What can be done about it? That's why we're here, isn't it? To brainstorm and fix this mess?
We're clearly faced with a dilemma: the people that need to be made aware are not aware of how unaware they are, indeed, they are unconvinced that they lack awareness.
We must be able to approach them in a way that they would receive readily. The video game approach might be one, but of course would be extremely involved (I have some experience in CGI graphics, but have never even played one of the current offering of games--much less created one). And, obviously, the resources for such an endeavour are beyond my reach, as I'm sure is the case with most of us here. But I have some contacts...I dunno, quite a stretch...
Just "brainstorming".

As a follow-up to the news story in the first post of this thread,
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,249110,00.html
in which Bostonians were terrified of little Lite-Brite cartoon characters placed around the city, now the perps have to pay up--through the nose!
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/05/boston.turner/index.html?eref=rss_topstories
Even though they publicly stated that the monetary outlay for their WAY over-reacting was $150,000 (says who?), Turner Broadcasting and the company hired to place the objects must now pay $2,000,000! Don't miss this paragraph:
"It is our hope that these funds will cover not only the expenses incurred by the many agencies who participated in the response and investigation of the devices discovered in the Boston area last Wednesday, but they will also enable our communities to enhance homeland security, or to pursue other important community initiatives." What the fuck??
It should be noted that these toys were place in about a dozen American cities, and people had seen them for weeks prior to the "bomb scare". They were a familiar sight to those that are fans of Aqua-Teen Hunger Force on Cartoon Network (I was never very impressed, myself, but to each his own).

BUT america is a much larger country with more room for stupidity. and i think it is just silly of the brits to look down at the us so much when they have Jordan as a top celebrity. for you non-brits, Jordan is an uglied up version of Pam Anderson. brits in general are more interested in world politics, history, etc. but they also have videocameras up all over london. cctv i believe it is called. i don't know, i guess we are both stupid.

How are things in my town?
In Australia, they're exactly the same. I wasn't born in Aust. and it made it easier for me to see things in a way, just like a "smart" (awake) Brit viewing American culture or visa versa. I think it's the same in every country and the biggest problem is nationalism.
Nationalism would imply that a certain country is better than all other countries in the world. Isn't that a 1000 worse than racism? And yet you have minoraties in these same countries (some; sorry to generalise) who themselves been brainwashed to have some kind of nationalistic view. Hypocrits.
Nationalism is dumb. Most Australians are dumb and the government, media etc. have been building national pride just like in other countries.
They say:
Oh, we love our sport,
we're the biggest drinkers,
we're the greatest lovers,
we're the free'est,
we're the best looking,
we're the hardest working,
we're so moral,
we've got the best sense of humor,
we're the nicest,
...in the world.
How many other countries say the same thing about themselves?
By the way, most of these things aren't true about Australia and to ANY country. Most people in Aust. are ignorant about the rest of the world because of this.
I don't consider myself to be part of any country and I don't belong to anything exept to ME.

As an Australian I found that video hilarious. I think David had it on his site, didn't he? I know I have seen it before.
Actually I don't think Americans, or anyone for that matter, are stupid. Uninformed, dogmatic, self absorbed, naive maybe, but most people would not go looking for the stuff we know. Most would not even know how or have reason.
Last year when I was in the UK, I went on a coach tour of England, Scotland and Wales. There were about equal numbers of Americans and Australians, with various other nationalities thrown in. In the evenings when discussions covered a lot of things going on in the world, the Americans had no idea. One lady from Florida was amazed at how little they knew but she said their newspapers don't even cover national news, let alone international. Gee what a surprise... WTG Jeb.
One morning they showed the video on TV of the supposed plane crashing into the Pentagon. We were discussing it at breakfast and I commented that it showed a lot of smoke and mirrors but there was no plane that I could see. Others agreed but an American lady said that no-one was saying there was no plane. I told her , 'yes they are.' She was amazed and wanted to know who. I told her the Rest of The World. She was gobsmacked. These were intelligent people but they had no idea because the media keeps them in ignorance and bombards them with 'celebrity' crap and what a great job the puppet is doing. One can only hope that as they come into contact with others who do know, that they actually do some research of their own and not go back to their own little cocoon.
There is a massive awakening everywhere so some are taking notice and, one can only hope, passing it on.

LOL You must move in different circles to me. I have many switched on friends and some who refuse to even think about it.
I work with the elderly and am continually blown away by how these people can see through the Government and the lies.
Our education system is a disgrace, however, designed to dumb down the young minds. Those who reject the system are labelled as trouble makers and are either suspended or leave the system. It is all designed to take away the ability to think and unless you conform, look out.
I think nice is not a word I would use to describe an Aussie. Opinionated, irreverant, in your face, she'll be right mate, couldn't give a toss and many more. Nice? Nah!!

The "education" system has a huge hand in all of it, of course, but there is a social element, especially among children, that disdains "smart people"--nerds. Obviously, not all well-educated people are nerds, but the association is there. If you have "school-age" children, clearly the only hope for them is homeschooling. Make damn sure that they regard the parent as the authority in issues of learning, until they pick up on how to teach themselves. I understand the challenges involved; most parents are themselves products of public school and aren't properly prepared for the role of educator (or so they think--just teach them to read, at first). Also, with the way the economy is manipulated, it has become necessary for both parents to work just to make ends meet. This leaves the children vulnerable to being in the custody of the state. Private school may be an option, but it still separates children from the parents, sometimes even more dramatically than public school. In my opinion, private schools may be even more damaging than public school, considering that many, if not most, of them are religion-based. Anyway, I couldn't afford it.
When I started this thread, I deliberately avoided the use of the word "stupid". As i_am pointed out, the people he toured the UK with were intelligent, but massively uninformed. It reminded me of an article (that I highly recommend) by Alan Watts (not Alan Watt), which can be found here:
http://northwest.741.com/
This article, called The Worlds Most Dangerous Book, was written in 1973, and so suffers only a little from time, but the paragraph I thought of was this:
"But today, especially in the United States, there is a taboo against admitting that there are enormous numbers of stupid and ignorant people, in the bookish and literate sense of these words. They may be highly intelligent in the arts of farming, manufacture, engineering and finance, and even in physics, chemistry or medicine. But this intelligence does not automatically flow over to the fields of history, archeology, linguistics, theology, philosophy and mythology — which are what one needs to know in order to make any sense out of such archaic literature as the books of the Bible."
I'll add that this intelligence does not automatically flow over into understanding the vast manipulation they've been subjected to.
Still, the question remains: How do we reach them? Time is of the essence.

Having lived in the US for 12 years now, (from the UK). It's about the same just different things people are conditioned with. Americans do need to never turn in their guns though. Now , let's say 9/11 wasn't an inside job, and look at what Bill Maher (A political comedian/show host) said on a fairly recent news interview:
"Bill Maher: Bush Should be Impeached for 911 Iraq Fascism
Bill Maher argues with Scarbororogh, Bush should be impeached for sitting through a childrens story for 7 minutes after learning america is under attack! He also discusses Bush's unconstitutional laws." Americans should be outraged by just this I mean he is supposed to be President??? But too many people still 'love the president'. I swear if Bush just made a speech saying America is now under my dictatorship and that we are going to nuke the middle east then the people would lap it up.

O yes Britan has some inceridbly stupid people, evey bit as stupid as some of the USA's people.... they are normaly refered to as Chavs...
if you check out a comedy duo who do a program called "Little Briton" and check out he character "Vicky Pollard" and you will have an idea of the brain cell shortage there is over here...
but without sounding mean, its only due to how they are manipulated over their youth... cornered into intense boredom where getting drunk and giving there mate a blow job down a back ally just for something to do is the best part time... as well as only having enough pennies to live on Mc Donald's or KFC, leaving their brains full of goodness....
My guess is they are all over the world, as Ickle would say, by design.
the fools who are doing all this NWO rubbish, think if you hold others down, it makes you smarter and more powerful, they certainly know how to be powerful, but they are lacking in one little bit of knowledge, and thats there is enough power for everyone... IMO this will be their downfall... in reality they are an incredibly insecure bunch.

How many of us here, were smarter than their teachers at anywhere between grade 1 to 4. Or most grade levels for that matter. I know I was. Teachers themselves are dumb. It's as if they deliberately employ dumb people to teach society, nice move by the illuminati.
Sure, we all must have had some good teachers along the line but they are rare.
How come it's always the interesting, smart, opinionated, open minded lecturer that teaches the least amount of subjects, and the nazi, cunt cocksucker type of teacher is always there, teaching the most subjects at school, or maybe university (I've never been to uni).

I don't think we should generalise like this. The governments of both countries seem to be dumbing down the education system, and where America goes, we always seem to follow. We have a lot of American programmes on TV too, a lot of them seem to be about government agencies saving the world and all that rubbish, which subliminally brainwashes the viewer into believing the government cares and does whats best for the population. I don't watch this rubbish, but my partner does.
Our news is all propaganda too, although not as bad as fox news by all accounts. The kids today don't want to read books, they do their homework by downloading stuff off the internet without even reading it, and handing it in and seem to get good grades by doing this. They have a very low concentration level from playing video games as well.
The young females where I work all read 'celebrity' magazines, I'd rather read a book but then I'm old and boring (according to them) and they wouldn't dream of questioning whether what they are told is the truth or not. Calling this government 'the nanny state' is lulling people into thinking the government is looking after them, whereas its all about control of the population.

I'm glad you brought up John Taylor Gatto, awarded teacher of the year in New York several years in a row until he realized the destruction of minds he was a part of, and gave it all up. It was from reading just one of his books (I've read more since) that I made the decision to homeschool my granddaughter. This wasn't readily accepted by the rest of my family, but a little reasoning brought them around.
My academic childhood was a miserable, torturous experience. My wife, on the other hand, has fond memories of school. I attribute that to influences at home; her father was an avid historian (leaning more toward the mythos of American history, though) and genuinely interested in education in general. His siblings were mostly self-educated; his brother having left school after the 6th grade level, who then went on to become rich and famous. Remember actor Robert Mitchum? Though unpublished, he had written some beautiful and eloquent poetry. A very intelligent man he was. Quite aware.

I am actually very embarrassed to say, that as an American, I too was living life completely unaware of what was really going on in the world. I never questioned anything! I had a friend of mine from Europe start telling me things concerning 9/11 and I thought he was crazy, I was shocked and angry. Thankfully he stuck by me to show me the light...once my eyes were opened, I sometimes can't believe how I could have been so stupid! It's difficult to have conversations with people that are still living life with their eyes closed in complete trust of what our President and our government tells us....I know personally....I never want to fall into that existance again.

I've never been to the UK but it seems to me that the NWO agenda is a lot further along over there than it is here in the USA.
I'm basing this on
- greater Big Brother surveillance of citizens
- closer to tagging/chipping all citizens
- more extreme taxes/fines/fees/VATs etc.
- almost no firearms ownership allowed
- top of the NWO hierarchy reputed to be in England
- MI6 reputed to be senior to the CIA in that hierarchy
- thinking Mr. Bean is funny
So, how is it that the Brit's are smarter than the Americans? :)

- closer to tagging/chipping all citizens
- more extreme taxes/fines/fees/VATs etc.
- almost no firearms ownership allowed
- top of the NWO hierarchy reputed to be in England
- MI6 reputed to be senior to the CIA in that hierarchy
- thinking Mr. Bean is funny
So, how is it that the Brit's are smarter than the Americans? :)
They aren't and the women are even dumber. Seriously beyond belief. Your average cat is way smarter, that's how bad it has become. (No offence to cats intended)

In the Uk I would say that the biggest guilty party for dumbing down is infact our Newspapers.
The likes of The Sun, The Mirror, The Sport, The Mail &The Star are nothing but comic books, although most actual comic books aren't as far fetched.
When ever you have a discussion about Iraq or 9/11 or global warming etc people will actually quote The Sun to you, which is the point where i basically give up.
I would definitely say that they wield more power with influence with the general public on current affairs than TV. Although the news casts are obviously biased too, they basically echo the tabloids.
TV commercials from my experience are more or less the same the world over and play a part in the dumbing down of the UK as with everywhere else, although i don't think we have disclaimers stating cars will not drive up buildings...yet!
The education system here is and always have been a training ground for slaves with any sense of individuality being drummed out at an early age. Unless you attend the elitist schools.
When (not if) David Cameron gets into power he is planning a reform on the education system that will see the brightest children from the "lower classes" (for want of a better phrase) have the opportunity to be educated at better schools taken away from them. Keeping the worker slaves firmly in their place.
I have to hold up my hands and say that plenty of my friends and family are guilty of quoting the tabloids and believing what they read or see. It has been a long process but some of them are finally beginning to see our they are being manipulated to think and react in certain ways.
The thing is i find people want others to think for them, which i guess is a direct result from the dumbing down.
I don't do much to fight the NWO or whatever you want to call them, but i do put the message out their that "They" do exist and are bleeding the life force out of joe public for their own gains and means.
As much as people turn a deaf ear or even ridicule you for your beliefs and points of view, at least you are putting it into their consciousness which is one step towards reversing the dumbing down of people.
Alas it is just a drop in the ocean for the Ready Made Meal society that we live in.

Britain has a monarchy parading about in fancy dress regalia. Brits pay taxes to sustain the monarchy in a god-like level of expenditure and lifestyle. A monarchy that enslaved the entire working population of this country... and they love them! No matter how retarded American accents sound, or however bizzare their dress sense, they do not enjoy paying to be oppressed, then cheer on their oppressors in the name of loving our tradition.
The act that so few Brits are shocked at the insanity displayed by these parading narcissists shows how insane this country is. Beneath that Royal clothing people forget there is a wrinkly old whore that stinks of piss, thats how dmb Brits are (the massses anyway).

Do you really think we (Americans) sound retarded due to our accent? What accent?? ;)
My question is this, does it really matter how smart or stupid that we perceive anyone to really be? Is it of real importance to determine which country in the world is better or worse than the others concerning trusting in our governments? Or is the real concern about waking others....I know for my self, that I wasn't aware of what was really going on in the world until 6 months ago, I'm assuming that there are other people here that have also had spiritual awakening and weren't born knowing the truth....

No, not all :p... and yes, we were nearly all played at one point, my only grievance is with monarchists, simply because one shouldn't have to be on some individuation path to see them as a sick, and expensive, joke.

I am teasing about the accent, when friends of mine in Europe say they like my American accent....I say what? I don't have an accent! You do! :D
I understand what you are saying...and I believe that no matter what country we were born in, we probably all felt pretty stupid when we realized the truth.

humans - for the most part - appear to be innately lazy (this the view I hear from some of my illuminutty acqaintances) - and so these folks like to feed the general population a steady supply of distraction. If (at least from the view of those of us who consider ourselves "awakened" so to speak) we then try and examine and measure the level of "consumption" of the distractions it would appear to me that neither America nor the UK is any better or worse than the other.
Consider this... a small pocket of the world experiences a bit of good luck shall we say. And after this period of good luck has reached maturity, there are several humans who have been born and raised under this easier set of conditions and then therefore not only take it for granted, but also do not have to struggle as much. In many cases, this results in comfortable levels of living where many folks just settle in, take it easy, and in many respects, simply do not really have a clue as to how tough it is in other parts of the world.
to the illuminutty - these folks appear lazy. to me, they appear simply to be examples of more docile and what may be termed more overall happy and secure folks - and so how can we blame them for living their happy dream?
I have been in the UK for most of the last 6 months. They are some great folks. Overall I have never met a more polite culture... open doors for ya, say "excuse me, mate" when they accidently bump into you, let you off the elevator before trying to cram themselves in. All very unlike Latin America, but much more like America.
In Latin America - there is (or at least has been) much more struggle - and thus there's much more GAME going on - all the time... Of all three, America, UK and Latin America - I by far prefer Latin America - because it is (at least for a gringo) way, way more free. But hey folks... I have travelled a lot and 99.9% of the world has little or no clue (they buy the movie - end of story). In fact, over time... I am beginning to wonder if us humans in some way have asked for it.
All we can do is try, one person at a time, to offer additional information (as sites like this). Maybe enough will start to catch on.
All my sons read Icke (and other similar alternative material) - we also have not had television signal in our home for over 3 years now.

this manifests its self as apathy, servitude to their masters, a blind faith, national arrogance/ignorance. when this luck moves to china, india, and their life beocmes a little less lucky, then maybe they will see life clearer. orwell said, a people who love their servitude, a painless revolution, he was spot on. i like it to fattening up the pig, before you kill it. or seduction techniques, saying i love you before bedding a honey, and then legging it in the morning, lol

So true, the chronic infantilism of latin Americans is vsurreal. Everyones out to screw the gingo, and become histrionic when their game is exposed, much like kids getting caught off adults. That said when there is ass like this in latin America, they can behave the way they like :-) http://www.executivovip.com/?CFID=39872&CFTOKEN=a1d5dd4808627659-3B229DBF-BE15-2252-F456F024BA5BDEC6&jsessionid=06302798631160633294271

Read the FOX news report about it:
foxnews.com (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,249110,00.html)
As you can see, the city of Boston was paralyzed with fear. People were arrested.
So, obviously people have become pretty stupid. I blame public school, primarily, but the pervasive atmosphere of fear, whether imposed or invited (have you noticed how many gory fright movies have been released lately?) keeps people's consciousness at a lower vibrational energy.
How are things in your town?

A WHISTLEBLOWER'S ACCOUNT
Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt, former Senior Policy Advisor in the U.S. Department of Education, blew the whistle in the `80s on government activities withheld from the public. Her inside knowledge will help you protect your children from controversial methods and programs. In this book you will discover:
-how good teachers across America have been forced to use controversial, non-academic me
-how "school choice" is being used to further dangerous reform goals, and how home schooling and private education are especially vulnerable.
-how workforce training (school-to-work) is an essential part of an overall plan for a global economy, and how this plan will shortcircuit your child's future career plans and opportunities.
-how the international, national, regional, state and local agendas for education reform are all interconnected and have been for decades.
