View Full Version : Lisbon Treaty - Irish Government Not Being Nice

I do not know if many of you are aware that we Irish are going to the polls next month to vote on the Lisbon Treaty which will remove the nation of Ireland (and all other EU countries) from the world map and make us all little counties in a unified Europe.
You would not believe the propaganda here if you saw it.
All the major parties telling us that a vote YES is a vote for Ireland (!!?!). If you are against it you are called unpatriotic! I have never experience such blantant propaganda in all my life here.
But the powers that be are shitting themselves. As the NO vote is growing and a deep cynicism about the entire European Project is taking root in Ireland. So much so that the toad like Peter Sutherland (Bank of Ireland, World Bank, Goldman Sachs) was seen chairing a business group who are campaigning for a YES vote. The look on his face was near panic. This is a guy who always gets what he wants.
Now the latest is just weird. Sirens are sounding all over Dublin city late at night. People are calling up radio stations and being told it is just a drill at the docks - but my brother works down there and he says the fire sirens in the docks are blowing like hell in AM hours without any drills happening.
There are ships out in the bay for no reason blasting sinister sounding air raid sirens all across the city during the early hours, Garda cars and fire engines are driving through the suburbs during the AM blasting their sirens. Have heard this is going on in the countryside, other cities and small towns too.
Then we get up in the morning after a night of terrible sleep felling confused, angry, bewildered only to see our politicians on TV and Radio promising us a happy future if we vote YES to the Lisbon Treaty. All kinds of government slick documents arriving in the post with Lisbon is Great! and other ones about how we will be killed by either terrorists or climate change.
The control and manipulation is terrifying.

So the Lisbon Treaty is all about improving democratic freedoms and social justice...
Vote Yes or we'll all pay price, EU chief warns

IRELAND and Europe will "pay a price" if there is a 'No' vote in the Lisbon Treaty referendum, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso warned voters last night.
Putting the gun to Irish heads ahead of the referendum in just over a fortnight, Mr Barroso said rejection of the EU Reform Treaty would be bad for the whole of Europe, including Ireland.
His comments could be used by the 'No' campaign to show that Europe is trying to coerce Ireland into voting 'Yes'

At least it is down to a vote for you, There was a UK vote in parlement as to whether there should be a referendum here, and Gordon Brown got a majority by 63 to say no public vote was reqd.
If this happens, there goes the GBP without so much as a "What does the voting public think?" :(
The whole ideal of equality for all is really fine and dandy, but why destroy a countries identity to do it? :(

OK things are getting really hot and heavy now. I was walking down Grafton Street in central Dublin this afternoon and see a huge YES banner with get this, a map of Ireland made from ice to 'symbolise how global warming will effect Ireland if we do not all vote yes'. If you saw the sneers and rolling eyes from predestrians walking by you would understand why the NO vote has moved ahead.
But it gets better, I am near the top of the street and there are three politicians from three different parties in unity (some democratic choice eh...) all 'pressing the flesh' and looking for a yes vote. Suddenly I hear from the crowd "you're a shower of fucking weasels!" and this well dressed old guy is calling them names. A woman goes over and right to their faces shouts "traitors!" and then a little bit later (I decided to follow them as it was amazing to watch the public reaction) I see a young woman saying "how many bloody years have you told us that the EU is not a Pan-European Government run by the Germans and French and here are you all trying to lobby for that carry on...you ought to be ashamed of yourselves."
The politicians were being verbally assulted and not gettting any smiles or nods of approaval form passerby by. There was also a report on the radio tonight that politicans from all parties are getting a hostile reception at the doorsteps when they are out canvasing. A senior Government minister was meant to address some Lisbon Forum tonight but called in sick.
The rumours are flying that not only is the Irish government in a state of panic, but the other parties are too as they all (except Sinn Fein) presented a united front on the Lisbon Treaty and it has turned out to be nothing short of a poltical disaster for all of them. Resigination and membership withdrawls left right and centre. However there is a TOTAL MEDIA BALCKOUT from the National Broadcaster RTE, but the independent radio and TV stations are reporting the negative reaction to the YES side.
This is going to be a very interesting week. Stay tuned.

Please Read This
I just watched a debate here on the Lisbon Treaty on Irish state TV and they had 2 from the NO side and 2 form the YES side. Every time a NO person spoke the YES ones would shout them down - they are absolutely terrified the people are going to get to know more about what's in this treaty that the happy-shiny soundbites they are constantly feeding us.
Among them was a clause which states that all EU member states increase their military spending within their own national budgets. This is leagally binding within the Lisbon Treaty. It only makes this demand in relation to military investment, but not for hospitals, schools or anything people might actually need.
So in other words, within the Lisbon Treaty is hidden among all the pointless "Social Freedoms" (which all the member states already provide anyways), "Combating Climate Change" blah, blah, blah... is a blank cheque book for the arms industry. But not for citizens welfare and social requirements in relation to healthcare and educational provisions. That's optional, once the Generals get their hardware and lots of it.
VOTE NO and DERAIL THIS MONSTER

10 June 2008
A commission appointed to inform the electorate about the Lisbon Treaty has rejected allegations about its independence.
The Referendum Commission appointed under Irish law to promote awareness and understanding of the Lisbon Treaty referendum in Ireland has rejected questions about its independence raised by campaigners against the Treaty in Ireland.
Anti-Lisbon Treaty group Libertas which is campaigning for a "no" vote says that the Referendum Commission's
independence "must be questioned", due to connections between its legal and media advisors and organisations backing the "yes" campaign.
A spokesman for the commission rejected the allegations. ?We have no comment to make, but we reject any suggestion that we are not independent.?

eh, maybe I am hyper-sensitive or something (nuts?) but driving from Galway to Dublin tonight there are weird low altitude clouds all over the country the likes I have never seen before. Some look like they are less than 100ft off the ground and in the middle of them is this weird red glow. It is also feckin COLD for June 11th. Just a weird feeling in the country tonight and some wacky looking skies. Not a single swift flying around nor a bird singing and usually the Irish skies are filled with them this time of year. I also noticed that my mobile phone network cut out when I was near these things. My cat and dog are both restless and not eating. I know it's easy to be paraniod about these things but a creepy feeling prevails which is hard to put your finger on. Everybody seems grumpy and pissed off.

i think so isn't that what jim corr said when he spoke out about it on radio...they say in the treaty that the eu is against the death penalty and then further down it says but this may be liable to certain terms and in certain circumstances be applicable!!!
don't hold me to those words but it was along those lines :o
well my brothers and dad etc have all voted no, and on their own decision, no word from me, also could i have voted? I guess it's only at the rish embassy no? in paris i could vote? anyway i'm far from there, i had no idea i could maybe have voted?
not that it makes that much of a difference, as they will force a yes vote eventually.

There was a woman on the radio who is married to an Irish Army ranger currently serving in Chad and she was told by an unnamed YES campainger on the base that she has to vote yes or else Irish troops on overseas missions won't be able to have the best "kit" and their lives will be in danger.
Pretty odd carry on for a so called Neutral country you think? The Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea is always going on about him wanting to give the army anything they want.
Here are photos of one of the most high profile YES polticians in the country. These are REAL photos and not jokes.

Look at what occurred to France and look at what will occur to the Netherlands :
The government of the Netherlands officially announced, Friday September 21, that he was opposed to the establishment of a referendum on the new European treaty, more than two years after not to the Constitutional treaty draft in the Netherlands at the time of a first referendum.
“A referendum is not necessary”, declared Dutch the Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.
France and the Netherlands voted not. Yes will pass by the Parliament.
So even if Irland vote no, it's just a question of time...

the reform project of the Constitution presented Wednesday removes the obligation of a referendum to ratify the adhesion of a novel member of the European Union, indicated the government spokesman Luc Chatel at the conclusion of the Council of Ministers. “We think that this bolt does not have truly a direction, it fixes a general rule where it is necessary to make individually, in fact on Turkey”, in connection with which president Nicolas Sarkozy continues to think that she “does not have vocation to integrate the European Union”, explained Mr. Chatel.
President of 493 million people… Nicolas Sarkozy will be soon with the head of the 27 Member States of the European Union. Never similar occasion will be represented with him: as much to say that he hopes for a fireworks. “During first half of the year of 2008, I deal with all the great reforms. As from on July 1, I will be to 100% on the presidency of the European Union”, it entrusted recently to a visitor.

The behaviour of the EU elite in the wake of the Irish vote has been just perfect. Just what we want from them. The icing on the cake.
They publically announced that they are moving ahead and do not care about about citizens democratic choice. In one fell swoop the EU proved to people of Europe why the Irish voted against the Lisbon Treaty.
People on this fourm often comment on how difficult it is to wake people up. Well, tonight the EU Commission has done more to have the entire population of Europe go "WFT!" with their rejection of the basic concept of democratic choice.
Thanks you arrogant morons. Especially Mário Barroso and Angela Merkle for your astounding public display tonight of how you utterly reject the voice of ordinary people. You're perfectly right.
Questioned on the victory of not with the Irish referendum, which replongé the European Union in an institutional crisis, Nicolas Sarkozy affirmed Saturday that it was necessary “to continue the process of ratification” of the treaty European of Lisbon “so that Irish vote does not become a crisis” and called “to make differently”.

The Week in Politics Show on RTE tonight was on the fall-out from the NO victory. They are claiming now that the NO campaign is such a powerful political force in the country right now that the Libertas orginsation are considering becoming a fully fledged political party to contest all Irish local, national and European elections. The fear of them by the mainstream poltical groups in Ireland is amazing to watch.
The cover of one paper today has a spread of all the high profile NO politicans and a huge headline which read THE TRUE VOICE OF THE IRISH PEOPLE and not one of them from the three main parties.
There is a political revolution happening in Ireland which is very palpable right now. You cannot help but feel it. The thing is that the reaction of the EU elite to our democratic choice has snowballed the anti-EU faction in Ireland.
I would reckon that a lot of people who voted YES on Thursday if they had to vote on Lisbon tomorrow morning would vote NO following the comments by Merkel, Barosso and Sarkozy. Even the most gullible would be shocked by the comments made about the Irish electorate within the EU circle of Power. You would think that us exercising our democratic choice was akin to a criminal act or something. The irony being that they who are acting illegal as the Treaty ratifaction process is null and void in a strictly statutory manner since 4PM Irish Time on Friday the 13th of June 2008. And yet they continue on.
Ireland's days in the EU are looking increasingly numbered. Either we are going to leave or they are going to expel us. But it's a real option now. We are the virus in the system.
