This could be something to look out for next week - It's taken direct from NASA's own website:

"MEDIA ADVISORY : M08-089

NASA to Announce Success of Long Galactic Hunt

WASHINGTON -- NASA has scheduled a media teleconference Wednesday, May 14, at 1 p.m. EDT, to announce the discovery of an object in our Galaxy astronomers have been hunting for more than 50 years. This finding was made by combining data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory with ground-based observations."

Anyone care to speculate, this could be most interesting?

Probably has something to do with a black hole or dark matter.

Planet X, black hole, dark matter? They're not saying what yet?:confused:What have they been looking for that has taken 50 years to find? They're keeping us in suspense that's for sure!

Have you been following the story between this Nibirushock2012 guy and the Yowusa guy?

I don't understand how this whole thing went down. Let's take a step back and review what happened. They announce they've got a "Big Discovery" that took them 50 years to find. I tune in live to the press conference from work and they say they've known about this supernova for 20 years and it took them this long to confirm how old it was? They get 3 prank phonecalls from the questioner's phoneline and the whole thing ends in 10 minutes. None of this makes any sense to me. If you've been searching for something for 50 years how can you know about it for 20 years? Am I the only one left scratching his head?

what ever NASA has to say is complete rubbish..... if this is anything interesting it will simply be them letting out info they have already knows for years and years.... just slowly letting some of the info out so when the big "disclosure" happens they dont rattle the beehive too much...

A galaxy! So that's what it was!

I had a bet with someone on ATS that it was a lost Sputnik rocket.:(

I was expecting something much more groundbreaking like planet-X or the source of a gamma-ray burst, but it seems the object in question is a very young supernova in our own galaxy...
