I finally got around to painting some new things. I have been working on some really big canvases. These are both in oil. The nude chick is something I finished about an hour ago.

OMG, how very beautiful!

I also love oils, there is nothing like the richness and depth of such medium. If I had the money I would commission you to do a full body portrait or of myself, before I get too old and everything falls south-HA!

I love the movement, the color contrast, and especially the way in which you captured the light and the mood you imbued within that last piece!!! My favorite.

I don't hand out compliment indiscriminately, you my friend are quite talented and very deserving of compliments, and you probably already know that ;)

Nice work i use water based paints mostly acrylic but have used oils . Need to do more with oil now you have prompted me .Need some more materials first. A painter i know said putthe oils in the fridge overnight stops them drying up good tip i reckon .Again well done took me a while to see eveything come to life within the paintings very good

I don't know about the fridge; just know one needs to keep them air tight! I lost a lot of good paint by loosing tops and developing holes in the tube over time. I am a lazy and messy artist, bad at putting things back properly!

I am too poor at this juncture to start up again:(

Thanks very much! Yeah, the third one is my third ever oil painting and I think it turned out the best so far and it's also the biggest canvas I've painted on (I try to get a bigger one every time and this one was almost as tall as me!), the one before that is my second. I had always worked in mixed media before and I was afraid to paint, especially after trying acrylics and watercolor, but oil mixes right there on the canvas and it's easy to spread and easy to paint with.

Hell, I hardly paint or get to do much art at all because I'm busy. I paint usually because it's just relaxing and it's a break from writing, which I'm getting sick of, but I've been thinking about doing more and getting up a nice string of oil work and maybe seeing if people might be interested in buying some pieces of commissioning.

But, right now, I don't have any subject matter. So if you want to send a picture, I'll paint it just to have something to paint. Why not?

I don't know if it is because I just had really shitty acrylics at the time, but I hated them. They were all gloopy and they dried too fast and they didn't mix together real easy. That's why I never thought to even try painting, I was always doing mixed media before with colored inks, charcole, gesso and other stuff to make things look layered, but I got tired of it.

The minute I started using oils I fell in love. I set out to paint a portrait of my Granddad for his birthday, which is not something easy to tackle especially for never having painted or learned to mix colors, but the minute I started letting loose on the canvas with oils I was hooked.

They spread REALLY easy, they just glide over the canvas. And, I rarely need to do any mixing on the actual palette. I can literally just lay down a ground pigment and then take another primary color and trust that it'll blend perfectly right there on the canvas, and it's fun to use globs of oil paint and just mix it all right there.

Oil doesn't dry very fast, especially depending upon certain colors and combinations (blue for example will take days to dry, whereas white or black would just take one 24-hour-period).

What I do when I need to stop painting with the oils and I have a lot on my palette, is I do just what you're talking about -- I stick it in the freezer.

I paint in little bits. So, that second painting you see was done over the course of like 5 months just because I would spend a little time here and there doing little parts (I could have done it in two days if I really sat down and went at it). Anyway, so I would put my palette in the freezer and my brushes in a jar of turpentine paint thinner and 2 months later I could still paint with everything. That's another awesome thing about oil.

Price is important factor in art no wonder most artists starve LOL .I have to get some of my stuff scanned in to post have put a couple of things on here somewhere , but i prefer larger surfaces the larger the better .When i do paint it is the most at peace ive ever been i feel totally in the now creating its excellent .Just remembered a nearly complete large mostly oil painting i have in my shed if it hasnt been ruined ill have to dig it out and complete it .Oil is so rich the texture and depth you can create with it like van gogh amazing .did you see the movie what dreams may come with robin williams and the afterlife created from oil paint , if not check it out good movie :D

Well I would be honored and very flattered. One thing though... makes sure you don't paint in my wrinkles, be kind- HA! I did some modeling back in college for life drawing classes etc, but I was 18 then;)

What kind of photo and where do you want me to send it?

That's good! You know the drill. Hell, most of the time in those life drawing things, you're sketching 300 pound men or 95-year-old grandmas.

I don't need a high quality photo or anything. Be creative, don't look in the camera, set up a cool little shot, or just a few and send them via MySpace on my profile (MYSPACE.COM/ThisWeekinTime)

I'm going to start painting a bunch more and anyone that wants to send me some good shots just gives me an excuse to start a new canvas. I like painting people, so I'm not one of those people that can go look at a field or some shit and feel happy about painting a tree. Boring.

Anyway, I can work just fine with any kind of candid photo. A lot of the time I will paint stuff from old poloroid pictures I have.

Can you believe they're not going to make poloroid film anymore? I'm so pissed.

OK,

EDIT:

I just remembered, I have been wanting to paint a mature woman in a bathtub smoking a cigarette as a sort of a overhead side-view thing. I would make the tub like an old fashioned one. Make it real blue, like some real deep thought is going on or something equally as witty.

So, if you can pull that off, go for it.

Going to be messaging you on my space, take a look at some of my photos, my daughter actually took a lot. I do get kinda dorky in front of the camera- just to forwarn you!

That tub thing I will get on it maybe tomorrow, my daughter loves to take pics and I could used a cigarette-

I have some small oil paint color wheel set from about 8 years ago i wonder if its ok to use still? need to check it out .Yes working in oil is so flexable always time to alter improve .Know what you mean about suddenly it fits into place re your portrait of your grandfather.I was doing a 4 wall mural for my stepdaughters room which changed constantly before i even started painting .Unicorns - no - dolphins - no tigers .I ended up painting all in one wrap around landscape.Never having painted any of those things before the dolphins where the hardest to do? I give up on the tige ras i tried to paint it from two different pictures i had .Then i remembered someone saying the picture is already there and i just stood in front of the wall for about four hours working then stepped back and the tiger was there .Its stil the best thing i have done in my opinion because i allowed it instead of tried to create it . When i get photo's scanned i will post here .

I worked with a dear friend for a short while back in Cali. I assisted her in her mural work; painting on such a scale... was a whole new world!

Thanks that was the idea to keep building it layer upon layer adding as much subtle detail as i could .I could of done much more to it but i planned on doing a whole series at the time which never manifested .The painting was inspired by a friends dad who is an aries .I had painted a wizard for my mate and his dad kept picking it up and asking who it was , whowas it supposed to be , so i created that one . I will probably do a series if not all 12 or 13 signs the nmaybe one for each element. I find it hard to get back into after such a long break OH the suffering artist LOL :D

You must have touched something deep inside your friends Dad 2013 for him to keep questioning it.;)

I was into the light and darkside that helped to express hidden feelings and got more into landscapes. never really was good.
