Ok I know that caffeine is a "drug" but is it really harmful?
Should I stop drinking coffee?
Is there anything about it that the mass public does not know?

Yes, it destroys or digests B-vitamins which are linked to neurological health. It's addictive causing headaches during withdrawal. It may make it easier to stay awake , but it also saps energy, and increases dependence. Caffeine can contribute to Menorrhagia in women, and temporary sterility in men. I'm sure there's much more I can't remember off hand, but try a search engine to see for yourself. ;)

Nah, coffee is alright taken in small doses (use don't abuse).
Trust your body to care of it It's a wonderful bio machine.

Caffeine gets a bad rap.......and for good reason.
In even just modest amounts, its protects from Alzheimer's! The PTBs would like us all doo-lally at a young age, so that when we're all sitting found in homes for the bewildered, dribbling and poo-ing our pants, they can feed us their delicious drug cocktails (poly-pharmacy).
So drink your coffee and enjoy it!
This has been well known for some years amongst alternative health researchers, but finally word is starting to seep out about coffee's benefits to the brain.

Start protecting your brain!!

:D
On the other hand, too much caffeine can be too much of a good thing, which can be bad as it can over-work the adrenals, so 2-3 cups a day ONLY seems sensible, and organic wherever possible. ;)
Have not heard of its negative neurological effects before (the depletion of B vitamins?), but even if this is true, its easily fixed by taking a simple B multi supplement each day, something most of us should be doing anyway due to the stressy way we are forced to live these days.

I choose to take your post limelady! I do like to have 3 cups of coffee in the morning and I would be sorely pissed to think its another BAD thing! I never have more than 5 cups a day and enjoy them. Also I have heard that tea has high levels of naturally occuring flouride so I wouldnt swap over. Its nice to have a hot drink :)

Yep I like my coffee and good to combat the affects of Alzheimer's Didn't know that thank you Limelady for that info.
Hi beldazar,
The fluoride in tea is a natural occurring one, not the sodium fluoride that the sick bugger's try and push on us.
And tea does have it's benefits as a antioxidant.
Enjoy everything, but not to much.

Coffee: The New Health Food?
Plenty of health benefits are brewing in America's beloved beverage.
By Sid Kirchheimer (http://www.webmd.com/sid-kircheimer)

Want a drug that could lower your risk of diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and colon cancer? That could lift your mood and treat headaches? That could lower your risk of cavities?
If it sounds too good to be true, think again.
Coffee, the much maligned but undoubtedly beloved beverage, just made headlines for possibly cutting the risk of the latest disease epidemic, type 2 diabetes. And the real news seems to be that the more you drink, the better.
Coffee even offsets some of the damage caused by other vices, some research indicates. "People who smoke and are heavy drinkers have less heart disease and liver damage when they regularly consume large amounts of coffee compared to those who don't," says DePaulis.
There's also some evidence that coffee may help manage asthma and even control attacks when medication is unavailable, stop a headache, boost mood, and even prevent cavities.

It amazes me how people even on this site still look to a pill for a fix.
Lets cover up the obvious causes of Alzheimer's (heavy metals like aluminum) and fix it instead with another drug that messes with our brains which could lead a person to SSRIs (http://www.opposingdigits.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1394).
Some of the above comments sound like they came out of a drug pusher's mouth, just exchange the drug of choice. Caffeine is addictive.. that should be " 'nuff said"
Beware of pills. Concentrated, isolated nutrients are not safe. Additives in pills are not safe. Taking a typical multi-vitamin with b-2, and magnesium has a sedating effect which makes many people tired. - That is one indication that it is more of a drug than something we need. Even b-vitamins in un-natural amounts can be addictive and cause withdrawal symptoms.

The list of ingredients in SRRI's is scary and yes they are poison IMO. I learnt though experience and the side effects they caused me, then done some research and read about other people's real experiences which were mostly negative.
Coffee has been used for many things look it up in a good herbal/ plants book. Problem is like many plants we now have GM versions. Do your research.

Want a drug that could lower your risk of diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and colon cancer? That could lift your mood and treat headaches?
There are many better ways to lower the risk of Diabetes (http://www.opposingdigits.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1876), and Parkinson's (http://www.opposingdigits.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1881), like reducing consumption of what causes them (dairy, refined foods, pesticides). Cancer isn't a big threat to people who know what foods to eat (http://www.opposingdigits.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=83). Most headaches alleviated by caffeine are actually caused by caffeine withdrawal to begin with.
Coffee, the much maligned but undoubtedly beloved beverage, just made headlines for possibly cutting the risk of the latest disease epidemic, type 2 diabetes. And the real news seems to be that the more you drink, the better.
Most of the reason people have Type 2 is because they don't eat right to begin with. Adding another addictive food product to this type of person's diet isn't helping.
Coffee even offsets some of the damage caused by other vices, some research indicates. "People who smoke and are heavy drinkers have less heart disease and liver damage when they regularly consume large amounts of coffee compared to those who don't," says DePaulis.
- Lets fail to mention the trade off and what it does cause.
There's also some evidence that coffee may help manage asthma and even control attacks when medication is unavailable, stop a headache, boost mood, and even prevent cavities.
Check: Buteyko Method for curing Asthma with testimonies (http://www.opposingdigits.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1997).
The mood boost is similar to the supposed energy boost. Caffeine actually saps your energy by over stimulating your nervous system. Though it may help mood temporarily, the destruction to your b-vitamins will eventually make it worse. It's like treating the cause of your headache with the cause, Treating a bad mood with the cause, and treating your tiredness with the cause. - All signs of addiction.

eternal spirit, that post of yours, from Sid Kirchheimer, sounds like a coffee-industry sponsored piece of "research"...
Caffeine is a stimulant, stresses the adrenals big time and that's bad news. But a little bit every now and again is really not going to harm you. Find an organic one, all kinds of nasty chemicals sprayed on coffee plantations.
Oh, and leave out the milk. As someone once said to me: the cow's milk we put with the coffee is a lot worse for us than the coffee. There's some truth in that!

Indeed it is and I quit it nearly a year ago! I had unfortunately been a drinker of a lot of Red Bull as well as coffee but decided it all had to go. Where I live most people are caffeine addicts in one way or another.

Great beard Mr Bard! :)
Yes, the Spanish drink a lot of coffee. And eat pork all the time. Pork has the heaviest, densest vibration of any meat, it is not helpful.

I think it's quite obvious that coffee is the worlds No:1 addiction. Miles in front of nicotine-alcohol.
Try and get a look inside a coffee plant, they wont let you in. They do have a secret processing of the bean, yep, they'll tell you that, But it's a secret. If ya gunna drink it, then go organic.

I don't drink coffee myself, as I prefer Tea, but as i understand it, it's not the caffeine that is the problem, but other substances in the coffee bean that can have toxic effects. Presumably some beans will have less of these then others...
There are health drink that have caffeine.
Edgar Cyce used to recommend black coffee and toast as an ok option for breakfast. Daniel Reid also has recommended black coffee in an early book, and says that the problem is not the caffeine - though, off course, too much of any stimulant will be bad for you over the long run.
If anyone wants to give up coffee, but still have caffeine then Tea, in particular Mate Tea could be an enjoyable replacement.

There is caffeine in green tea, how can it be harmful?.
http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=146
Just in large doses?.
Would supplementing cups of green tea with a few cups of nettle & dandelion tea instead be better?.

You know what, for years I read article after article written by so called professionals. My health suffered. Then I started listening to my body instead of other people, this has proven to be much more effective.
I am not addicted to coffee, at least 4 days a month I dont touch the stuff because my body tells me not to take it, this is usually around my period, i dont know what happens but my blood pressure feels like it alters or something and the smell i am repelled by.
The rest of the time I enjoy it. It makes me feel more creative, i get more done, it also makes me more impulsive though, i dont know whether that is a good or bad thing. I drink the weakest strain of coffee though.
Fresh ground coffee I can only handle one cup and i feel like i have drank two glasses of wine. I dont know how some people can manage more than 2 cups a day.
