Me and 2 of my friends all had similar dreams when we were younger of being is a room that seemed in the shape of a circle surrounded by tall creatures that wanted our blood and when they got close enough we'd wake up, I had this as a reoccuring dream until about 7/8 years ago.
Weird that 3 people that grew up in 3 different area's could have similar dreams, and that they'd be friends later on in life. maybe a psychic connectioon :)

Maybe the reason you woke up when the creatures got close enough was that when they got close enough, their sleep spell or perhaps technological sleep device became enabled. Thus you would be rendered comatose until you awoke safe in your own beds.
I don't know where I've read it, but I know that I've read somewhere about victims like this. They all ended up in the same group of friends as adults, but as individuals, before they knew each other, they had met each other in their childhood remembrances.
Why don't you go into some detail. Could you try to explain it in some detail... the feelings, the smell, the colors, oh please, oh please.
