I've been reading recently of the Mosquito brand of 'anti teenager' deterrent. For those who don't know what this is check out this security systems website which sells them: reactionaryhttp://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/

Basically they are ultra-sonic sound generators which only 'people under the age of 25' can hear. They are, apparently, excrutiating screeches which 'persuade' gangs of troublesome teenagers to move on else where. There are loads of implications, but most significantly I think it's scary that these products (which must have been developed covertly to be used in battlefield situations) are being used against the civilian population and are available commercially!

OK, so this technology certainly isn't 'anti-personnel' and works on fairly simple principles, but if this is the tip of the iceberg can you imagine what else can be done using this technology? I've read elsewhere of sonic weaponry being used in Iraq and Afghanistan, but this is the first time I've read of anything like this being used on civilians.

Also, surely you could simply strap one of these things to your person and just walk about sonically terrorizing innocent kids around you?

It's true there was a story in a local Newspaper about a year ago saying they'd been using this technology locally.

I remember hearing once that here in Aus they would play classical music around the train stations, it would make the teenagers scamper...:D

They've been using these for a few years in the UK.

There are is a fountain at a roundabout near here which used to be a teenage hangout. At New Year about 300 would gather at the ebnches at this roundabout, and there were teens at the benches day and night all year round.

So they took the benches away, and errected these sonic devies, that emit hi-pithced screaches, that can only be heard by the under 25s, and it really aggravates them; so they end up moving off.

Seems to be working.

Thing is tho, prevously you had a known quantity; you new where yoru teenagers were, they were seated (note sat = not in getting into trouble) in full streetlamp; now you have dispersed the bored teenagers after pissing them off...! Bravo!

There is an application for the iphone that plays these frequencies. My fiance played the noise to myself and his 14 year old son who was able to tell us when he was switching the noise on and off... we couldn't tell!! Scary eh!

no not banned at all. they use it everywhere round we live and my daughter always can hear it. after 6 at night. her hearing as got used to it now and she says it just like a humming. but it still gets on her nerves and its been going on for a full year now.

most of the industrial estates use this technology and because we live near council offices and a castle its horrendous.

adults are not supposed to hear it but my hubby can too. and when the wind is blowwing a certain way they say its very invasive.

i think they may be in need of an antisocial order placed on them soon.

use the system.

Should get a case together to sue for damage to hearing and the deliberate act of damaging a youths hearing and body....it's a form of assault.

I don't understand how this is really a problem. I see it as a simple, effective, non-violent way of ridding of true problems local stores may have.
It's just noise.

why does one group of people get to dictate to another group what a problem is?

I believe there was a mobile phone 'ring tone' incorporating this noise so kids could hear their mobiles in class but the teacher couldn't. As for only under 25's being able to hear it, I'm 40 and it drives me crazy, as does the 'electronic cat scarer' my parents have in their garden, its the same noise but comes in pulses.

Of all the extremities to pick, my body chooses to keep my ears young. Thanks body...

They do work, they have had them here in Britain (where they were invented) since 2006.

I can hear the bloody things and I'm well over 25! Conversely, some teenagers can't hear them...

No you won't see a problem until you decide to take your child somewhere where on is in use and it harms them..... HELLO??????

I would find it funny if the tteenagers found one to get rid of adults.... LOL

Not banned, my son works for a company that installs them, he told me about them a year and a half ago.

Not banned but in some parts of the country people have successfully sued premises that have installed them and they have had to be removed.
