Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story of recovery and awareness -- of how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another.

She explains really well, i'm sure many would agree :)
Too bad she came back to normal, and lost the experience of "enlightenment".
Much like which is the case with psychedelic drugs like "magic mushrooms" or LSD.
Maybe there's a pleasant afterglow or memory...
but when the trip's over, we become back to "normal".
Best way i've found to experience enlightenment permanently,
is through meditation. because it is not chemically induced... it is mentally induced...
and so you can choose every second of your life to be like that.
Contrary to psychedelics, the peak experience in meditation isn't reached in a matter of minutes...
it (usually) takes some time for it to grow stronger.. like weeks, months, a few years...
but it's there to stay...
With meditation you notice the effect from the very beginning and quickly see it "grow",
so you know you're not waiting for something which (might never) "happen to you"...
The way we experience ourself and the way we experience the world
is the result of a (un)conscious choice we make each second.

Jeez another scientist answer, when she remembers the ingredients expect to see it "marketed as the answer to enlightenment in varied media formats"
Sounds like a lot of hot air too me

Yeah but it's nice to see a scientist mention such things, but get your gist.

E has a bad reptuation because so many people take it just to go out party and get mashed, but in my experience E can be used as a wonderful tool to open your heart and shift your awareness to some very loving frequencies and the underlying order of things

I'm not sure why but this thing where people need drugs to reach enlightenment, doesnt sit well with me. It dont feel right
What is it that chemicals do that make you realise stuff ? Do they bring clarity ? If so, why cant we get this clarity without drugs ?

i agree,
but when i was still using it...
it didn't feel very good for my brain afterwards though.
and i didn't really overdo it :)

this thread is so un-needed
one it gives ppl a FALSE sense of 'enlightenment' like to some fever that comes and goes, *SIGH how pathetic
this is no where near any kind of real learning of higher spiritual values,
second as can be seen from the postings of the thread starter

get a grip will you??
you speak ignorantly of these subjects, youre doing yourself and other ppl who are new to these topics a DISservice
ppl have to realize that matters of spirituality cannot be merely defined of explained with this linear left brained scientific method crap

well, the woman in the vid didn't "take chemicals".
a big part of her left brain just failed to work any longer because of the stroke...
and the result was that she had strong Ego-Loss...
because the sense of "ME" is apparently a function that is being created by the left brain.
"Ego-loss" is also possible by meditative living, but (usually) strong Ego-Loss takes a while to develope.
When one takes "entheogenic" substances though, the effect on the brain can have similar effect as the woman had when she had a stroke...
so when the "entheogenic substance" starts to work, strong ego-losss can occur in a matter of minutes.
though, the difference between ego-loss by meditative soberness is that this can be permanent :)
while with "entheogenic substance", when the substance leaves the brain the ego comes back :(:p

it seems that your highness uses a different meaning for the word enlightment.
would your highness care to explain what he thinks it means to be "enlightened" ?

For the sheeple, I would say that knowledge is the first step to enlightenment. I know that may sound back to front but what I mean is that at present, the sheeple are so incredibly brainwashed that they FIRST have to get the knowledge (truth) and THEN see where it takes them. Unfortunately cos of the brainwashing, we need to seek out the "truth" BEFORE we have any chance of starting a journey into "enlightenment". So what I'm saying is, it's been made difficult because of the brainwashing. I dont need/want any drugs or chemicals to do it for me cos I prefer NOT to touch stuff that effects the brain.

i see your point,
some people have very negative reactions (which can be permanent) after using a drug only one time.
i know that "magic mushrooms" and LSD is safe for me personally (i've done it a lot for a long time, and didn't really have much negative sideeffects on me, if any)
reason i quit using them is coz it's not permanent, but people probably know that by now :p

all your 20+ years of "research" are worth jack shit, you see it actually requires a sharp brain to put it all together,
youre TOO OLD for this, give it up,

my outrage is justified when you post such nonsense, what are you trying to prove by posting a picture of scales??
the first step to any kind of real learning is humility
and you throw around these terms like "enlightenment" like there is some vitamin pill that will give you instant ascension to some higher dimension
this would be funny if the situation wasnt so sad, how can you expect ppl to tell you, make you understand things which should be as private to your inner core as the love you have for your family members
its not possible to be explaining to you this "enlightenment" over the net, let alone trying to explain it to you face to face
but what i can do is make judgment on the things that enlightenment is NOT
and what you posted in this thread, is far off the mark

why would i want to prove something?
the first step to any kind of real learning is humility
so looking at the way you treat other people on this forum,
would you consider your self to practice humility or not?
and you throw around these terms like "enlightenment" like there is some vitamin pill that will give you instant ascension to some higher dimension
not really, i'm aware people often become highly delusional while under the influence of psychedelic drugs.
how can you expect ppl to tell you, make you understand things which should be as private to your inner core as the love you have for your family members
ok, then tell me not.
but what i can do is make judgment on the things that enlightenment is NOT
and what you posted in this thread, is far off the mark
if you wouldn't be so secretive about what you understand enlightenment to be,
then maybe if i'm lucky i would be able to produce some sentences which are less far "off the mark".
to me it sounds like you just understand something different when you hear the word enlightenment,
and when i asked you what you do understand then you could have just given a decent answer instead of producing more drama.

Its amazing how much an NDE can reveal. There are movies about people experimenting with causing them on purpose. Doing it on purpose just doesnt give the same result, although people probably have done this.
This woman sure does have a unique way of explaining her experience. Being a scientist probably helps. I have tried having NDE at least 2 times, probably more. I guess I might have been completely detached from my body even.
I find her description of schizophrenia interesting. I have it myself, and I guess it helps me use visualisation, although it at times makes it difficult being sure if the experiences or memories I have are real. Its a mild case though, and I can usually tell the difference... I hope :) I am sure many on this forum would probably disagree, since what I have discovered in that unbound state is usually not what we would think the world is or what our limits are. Many parts of my life is so fantastic that I actually have to believe them not to be true most the time, or at least try to forget about them.
Still, I wonder what kind of realities other schizophrenics have. Does their dreams have basis in other realities? Seems to me that science has already proven that our brain ought to create realities of its own. The amount of pure processing power should be enough to make a whole parallel universe. Or maybe that is just a theory of my own. I dont have any link to refer to atm.

Problem is enlightenment is a bit undefined. On this forum we would probably refer to many kinds of enlightenment.
This scientist experience or at least part of it, is what I would refer to as the state or feeling of oneness. There are many ways to reach it, and none of which I have come upon involved drugs. Drugs probably can induse that kind of experience or state as well, but I would think that it might also be hard to differ from the state of oneness and a drug trip that went a bit different. Maybe... I guess I am just speculating on my lack of experience of any kind with drugs and them indusing oneness. Still I am sure that they can, but with some risk of course. Maybe alot of risk. I just know I wouldnt recommend it.
