I found this website and wanted to share it, the chernobyl accident had a big influence on my childhood as I lived in Sweden at the time, and I always thought it weird how it is so rarely mentioned!
I thought this womans work is beautifull and shows the scale of this disaster, nuclear power has always scared me senseless!

The site is maybe a bit unorganised but if you look around theres a lot of info!

Cheers Pollock, spooky, moving, sad site and story. Strange feel comes through the photo's of the abandonded houses, the trees are taking over. Weird thing about radiation, unseen but so deadly.

Yes sad, but I also find it strangely uplifting to see how nature just goes on, if I could just get passed my ego I would find hope in this tragedy, like Bob Marley said:
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
Love

yes i agree, nature never gives up, even thougg the place is radioactive the trees' and plants still grow, take a hold in what man created for himself and slowly reclaim there territory, makes you think how long would it take for earth to become a big jungle again if man was to all of sudden leave?
I watched the video taken by the russian guy shortly after the explosion when the clean up was in full swing, it has haunted me all day, all thoe people in a massively radioactive area with only surgical masks for protection (a lot weren't wearing any) they must have all died a few months after the explosion, yet the thing that really cut me up was at the end of the video a bird was flying over the blown reactor and just fell out of the sky, totally nuked with radiation, it totally knocked me for a row of shit cans, poor bird.
I was telling a guy I work with about what I had seen, he could see from my facial expresions that it had an effect on me, yet he could not muster one word of sympathy, he just said "a good place to stay away from"..and I thought typical, its in someone elses backyard so it dosen't exist. made me start to doubt that we/us/people are ever going to get our shit togeather and change this place.....damn sad the whole thing, incredible loss, sickingly gross. http://planetsmilies.net/sad-smiley-335.gif (http://planetsmilies.net)

I hope I havn't made you too sad, that was not the intention:) :) :)
but it is a big thing and sooo hard to grasp the powers these people are toying with, and yes it is sickening how people turn away from it and pretend its not there, maybe it will have to be square in everyones backyard before we see a change??? Lets just hope it doesn't come to that!
Heres something cute to cheer you up!

Thanks Pollock, cute pic, yep I'm not to sad, just had a lasting effect on me, particularily seeing the faces of all those poor guys basically sentenced to death, it almost came through some of there faces that they new this was close to the end for them...spooked me a bit, but all good now. Yes, the don't know what they are playing with, the devestation when things go wrong is horrific, I remember reading somewhere that it may have been a set up to blow the reactor, CIA or similar action to destabilise Russia, cold war shit or something. Thanks for your pic and kind thoughts, your a sweet heart http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/7766/smokingon7.gif
