I remember reading in one of David's books, "Aspartame etc can also harm the body...but only if we think they can!"
So I was wondering, in the 30s-40s, when many more people smoked and the dangers weren't really known (or 'announced' as I call it) how high the rates of lung cancer were. As far as I know, people weren't trumpeting the dangers like lung cancer, bronchitis etc. around and so I wonder how many smokers develop these conditions simply because they are conditioned to think they will, and how many did when they had no knowledge of such dangers.
Hope I made the question clear enough. ;)

I can't say I know, but my belief is that belief is all there is. I.e. this world that we experience is an illusion, the collective sum of every thoughts that circulates our universe. The stronger your thoughts are, and the more people carrying them, the more they will manifest in the physical. Therefore, if smokers believe they will die from smoking, they will...

My thoughts also.
I haven't done the research but my hunch is that if we were to find the point where the 'dangers' became publicly known, we would find, before this point, a larger number of smokers, but far fewer cases of lung cancer, bronchitis etc.
I'm open to all views on this. :)

While we can shape our realities with our beliefs, some things are going to harm us. For example, if I was to cut my arm with a sharp knife and believe I'd not bleed, I'd still bleed. Smoking isn't good for the lungs, that's a proven fact.

And yet there are monks who are able, with meditation, to use their chi to prevent blades from penetrating their skin.
I maintain it is all belief, and there is only the depth of your belief that will allow your skin to be cut with a blade.

If you cut a vein or artery blood will come out.

It is always a mix of common belief and what you believe yourself, and what the body remembers from what has happened to other bodies.
Also chemical effects does have some basis in science and biology which isnt non existant just because everything is conciousness.
So we end up with having everything being true... I guess :)
