Where's the quotes?

Genesis 17:13
He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

Or just genital mutilation?

Banning stuff just sends it underground. Give people full knowledge and full ability to do whatever they want. Then pick up the pieces.

B.C. doctors take stand against circumcision
CTV.ca News Staff
B.C.'s College of Physicians and Surgeons has issued guidelines that state circumcision on newborns is medically unnecessary.
Not only that, it hurts.
"The concern is that, most males would agree, that this is very painful," Dr. Peter Seland of the College told CTV Newsnet. "Most babies would voice that."
There are also concerns the procedure "reduces sexual enjoyment later in life," he said.
Those downsides are for a procedure that primarily reduces the risk of some localized infections, he said.
"Beyond that, I think primarily the benefits rest primarily with ethnic beliefs, which these guidelines don't attempt to address at all."
The College acknowledges in its guidelines that circumcision is an important tradition in Jewish and Islamic culture.
Asked about the child's best interests, Seland said, "parents have an obligation to make medical decisions that are in their child's best interests, and they do it all the time."
With circumcision, "the risks and benefits more or less seems to be evenly weighed, so it's a nil issue," he said.
In the policy statement published online, the CPSBC raises a number of questions on the ethical, legal and medical implications of the procedure.
"Routine infant male circumcision performed on a healthy infant is now considered a non-therapeutic and medically unnecessary intervention," the College writes.
Calling for a "wider societal discussion" of the practice, the manual goes on to call routine infant male circumcision "an unnecessary and irreversible procedure."
"Therefore, many consider it to be 'unwarranted mutilating surgery.' Many adult men are increasingly concerned about whether their parents had the right to give consent for infant male circumcision."
The new guidelines were developed in response to the 2002 death of one-month-old Ryleigh McWillis. He bled to death after a circumcision at Penticton regional hospital.
Though the consensus of many medical agencies -- including both the Canadian and American Paediatric Societies -- comes down against its medical benefits, there are still many doctors who routinely perform the surgery.
Doctors who favour circumcising healthy children say the best time is in the first few weeks after birth.
The CPSBC does make allowances for circumcision on religious grounds or other similarly compelling grounds.
"Therefore, each request for the procedure should be carefully evaluated, and an agreement to perform the procedure should take into consideration the ethical principles of beneficence (duty to benefit); non-maleficence (do no harm); veracity (accurate information); autonomy (consent); and justice (fairness)."
Seland said the guidelines should help B.C. physicians in counselling parents "so they just don't make it on the basis of 'we want him to look like daddy.'"
The college wants parents to understand "the risks and the limited benefit, and to understand there are moral and human rights issues that they need to at least consider in their decision," he said.

Muslim Accused of Assaulting Son Through Circumcision

By James Tapsfield, PA
A Muslim “assaulted” his five-year-old son by having him circumcised against his mother’s wishes, a court heard today.
The father is alleged to have secretly taken the boy to a doctor in north London for the procedure.
Lewes Crown Court heard he then told the mother – an English Christian – what had happened and said: “There is nothing you can do.”
The 27-year-old man – who lives in Crawley, West Sussex, but cannot be named for legal reasons – denies committing an assault occasioning actual bodily harm in August 2003.
Irena Ray-Crosby, prosecuting, told the court today that the parents had been involved in a three-month relationship and the mother realised she was pregnant after they broke up.
Once the defendant, who is of Moroccan origin, realised the child was his he began raising the issue of circumcision in line with his religious beliefs.
“He told (the mother) he wanted to have the boy circumcised and she said she would agree with that only for medical reasons and never for religious ones.”
The court heard that in August 2003 – shortly after the boy’s fifth birthday – he went to stay with his father.
The defendant telephoned the mother and asked her to come out of her house to talk to him, at which point he told her about the circumcision.
According to Ms Ray-Crosby, the mother accused him of assaulting their son, and the defendant responded: “There’s nothing you can do. I’ve looked into it and it’s perfectly legal.”
He later sent her a text message saying she should give the boy salty baths in order to help him heal.
The court heard that the father had been “under pressure” from fellow Muslims to get his son circumcised, and paid £100 in cash for the procedure to be carried out.
Ms Ray-Crosby said the defendant had admitted when arrested and interviewed by police that he had not told the mother in advance of his plans. She added that there had been no medical reason why the boy needed to be circumcised.
“This is not a case that is anti-Islam or anti-any other faith. It’s simply about a boy who was circumcised without his mother’s consent.”
Ms Ray-Crosby said the father had never applied for legal parental responsibility, and therefore could not have provided proper consent for the operation to take place.

A British court (http://www.circumstitions.com/J.html) has ruled that consent of both parents is required for circumcision.

http://www.circumstitions.com/News17.html

This raises the question: If medically unnecessary surgical interventions are inherently human rights abuses when performed on children with "abnormal" genitals, what makes circumcision of a "normal" child acceptable? ]

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's standard practice all over the United States as well isn't it?

Let's make a petition for Britain to 'take back the Americas'

They're obviously too scalpel happy to be allowed freedom.

Once considered a rite of passage, the medical procedure is being seen
as too painful and harmful for male newborns.
NEW YORK - To cut or not to cut. That is the question an increasing number of Jewish parents are facing these days when it comes to circumcising their male newborns.
Circumcision, the surgical removal of the foreskin, has been a widely practiced medical procedure in this country since the late 19th century. But for many Jews, it has a deeper meaning.
Ritual circumcision, knows as bris milah, loosely translated into "covenant of the cutting," is considered a fundamental principal of Judaism dating back to Abraham's covenant with God.
Thirty years ago, roughly 25 percent of men worldwide and more than 90 percent in this country were circumcised, primarily for hygienic reasons. But beginning in 1971, some physicians argued that there is no medical reason for the procedure.
Now sentiment against circumcision appears to have crossed over into Judaism. Norm Cohen, director of the National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers (NOCIRC) of Michigan, an anti-circumcision group, said the controversy will become more of an issue within the Jewish community as the circumcision rates continue to drop.
"Many Jewish mothers and fathers have privately recognized the painful, harmful and dangerous aspects of circumcision," Cohen said.
NOCIRC is just one of nearly a dozen anti-circumcision organizations formed over the last decade. Dr. Ronald Goldman, executive director of the Circumcision Resource Center in Boston, has been on the forefront of the anti-circumcision debate.
The author of two books, including "Questioning Circumcision: A Jewish Perspective," Goldman said circumcision is not important to being Jewish. "Not circumcising is the choice of a minority of Jews now, but new ideas always start with a minority before they are accepted by the majority," Goldman said.
Regardless of whether he is circumcised, the child of a Jewish mother is considered a Jew under Jewish law. But parents who fail to circumcise "will have turned down an opportunity to enter into the covenant properly," said Rabbi Moshe Trager, who has performed hundreds of circumcisions.
The ceremony, presided over by a mohel, a person trained in the medical and surgical techniques of circumcision, usually takes place in a synagogue. During the ceremony, the baby receives his official Hebrew name.

Jewish Associates of CRC makes known to the Jewish community that a growing number of Jews either have not circumcised their son or would choose not to circumcise a future son. It is an opportunity for Jews who take this position to declare themselves and to be counted. A confidential list of Jews who contact the Circumcision Resource Center for this purpose is maintained. God created man in his image but made errors in the penis area and asked us to torture babies from here on and forever?

Seems like some are still living in dark ages. Very, very dark ages.

Removing the foreskin is of benefit to every man as far as I can see.:D

But the circumcision of girls is a totally different matter and of no benefit. In any case, I cannot understand why it should be something done as a proof of one's faith, especially in one too young to understand what's being done.

The practice of circumcision in Islam comes from the Hadith, Shariah law and the consensus of Islamic communities.

The Hadith

Narrated Umm Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah: A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said to her: Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband. (Sunan Abu-Dawud: book 41, number 5251, Hasan)

Part 2.
The Shariah

The following reference to Shariah law comes from Ahmad ibn Naqib al-Misri, Reliance of the Traveller - A Classic Manual of Islamic Sacred Law. This book comes with the approval al-Azhar University.

Al-Azhar University ( الأزهر الشريف) is the leading institution for Sunni learning in the Islamic world.
