I''ve recently developed a rare and yukky form of psoriasis, which apparantly there is no particularly decent treatment for.

I'm not a fan of steroid creams and think generally they do more harm than good. Has anyone had any experience with this?

The symptoms are basically horrid bumps and dry skin on soles of feet and palms of hands. All very well, however if I'm having to shake hands with people on a regular basis I don't want them thinking I'm going to give them some sort of horrible lurgy.

I've just given up a very stressful job and it has improved a lot due to that (it came on initially about a year after I started there). Apparantly one of the main triggers for this type is smoking (yes, yes, I know - I'll give up, soonish).

Anyone have any ideas? Many thanks in advance. :)

Thank you - in the scheme of illnesses, I really haven't got much to complain about, but it is irritating to have to ensure you're uncrusted for meeting new people. Ewwwwwww!!!!! :D

Other reading around psoriasis and exzema I've done suggest that it has a lot to do with an overloaded liver, try a liver detox diet - no refined carbs, no alcohol, no meat, more water etc - I'm sure there are several of these knocking around on t'interweb if you wanted to look up some more info

I had a bad patch of psorisis on my back for 10 years and tried all sorts of non-orthodox treatments (western herbs, aloe vera, sun lamps) but none worked and it eventually started to get worse. I went to a Chinese doctor and was given a herbal ointment which was miraculous - like a key going into a lock. Within a week the angry sore was healing over and within 3 weeks it was just a pink blotch. It has never come back. Only problem was it didn't work for the psorisis on my scalp as the ointment gummed up my hair which would cause me to scratch. I don't know the name of the ointment as it was in Chinese and i donated what was left of it to somebody with chronic psorisis all over her and the doctor has since moved.

Hi Stinker

Sounds like pustulor psoriasis,I developed it myself a couple ofyears back, pretty nasty stuff!I only had it mildly on my hands but it was really bad on the souls of my feet.I was told by the specialist who diagnosed it that the main causes were as you say, smoking and stress.I was given a tar based solution that I had to apply twice daily with my feet wrapped in cling film for half an hour. After I washed it off I applied a steroid cream to aid the re growth of healthy skin.I'm not sure how long it took to clear up but the treatment deffinately worked.A couple of weeks maybe.

Good luck with it anyway mate I hope this helps, its not a very pleasent thing and I was really glad to get over it.

Flax Oil can upset your stomach interfering with digestion: Not recommended.

From:

A list of alternative considerations and treatments should include: Improving digestive function, improving liver function, improving bowel ecology, alcohol avoidance, fish oil and omega 3 supplementation, fasting, vegetarianism, food allergy elimination diets, sunshine exposure and vitamin D use, a high fiber diet, and stress reduction.

Find foods with the recommended vitamins and minerals in them, do not take supplements unless there's an emergency situation (this isn't).

Im looking into urine therapy and in the last few days, the information on it is astonishing ... The other day I got bitten by a caterpillar and I don't know about the rest of the world but in Australia the caterpillars hurt ... So I thought about it for a while and I thought well why not Ill put some urine on it and see how it goes... So I applied fresh urine onto a cotton ball and WOW. Amazing stuff, the sting was totally gone in 3 mins.. and the rash had gone down in about ten with no scarring... I know it sound disgusting but once you read into it , you may realise when nothing else is around it could be a life saver.. Check out these links on Urine therapy . Lots people around the world have had great success with UT curing Psoriasis and other ailments...

I know urine is good for fungal infections or dry itchy skin if that's what you want to call it.

You can avoid acidic drinks like coffee and tea, do some stretching, and eat some slippery elm gruel to help heal your stomach. These skin conditions are usually from your gut. Eating a lot of fruit does wonders as well. Drink some camomile tea for your nerves!
