A woman was taken to hospital after attempting to harm herself in a county plagued by apparent suicides.

The 23-year-old woman was found at an address in the Bridgend area of South Wales, shortly after 5pm on Sunday.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said the woman comes from the Cardiff area.

Seventeen young people from the Bridgend county are thought to have killed themselves since January last year.

Police have publicly ruled out suicide pacts among the victims as being a trigger for the deaths. Suggestions that internet sites played a part have also been dismissed.

The Sun reported the 23-year-old woman was spotted hanging from a noose by an 11-year-old schoolboy.

The paper said the boy raised the alarm with two 16-year-old friends, who lifted her up until police and paramedics arrived.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: “Officers attended an address in the Bridgend area shortly after 5pm on Sunday April 6, where a 23-year-old woman, from the Cardiff area, had attempted to harm herself.
“She was taken to hospital.”

Woman, 23, commits suicide in Bridgend

Police are investigating another suicide in Bridgend after a 23-year-old woman hanged herself.

The woman, who comes from Cardiff, was found by two boys in the back garden of a house on the Cefn Glas Estate on Sunday evening and died yesterday.

She is the 18th person in the last year to commit suicide in the area and is thought to have killed herself shortly after a row with her boyfriend, who she was visiting.

The latest victim is not being linked to the other deaths.

Neighbours heard the woman and her boyfriend shouting at each other.

Lavina Harvey, 38, who lives next door, said that the woman came round to her house shortly afterwards.

She said: "She was talking about her problems including having a row with her boyfriend.

"She was in my house for 20 minutes and when she left she seemed to have calmed down. I didn't think she would do something like this - I'm absolutely devastated."

Carol Davies, 46, whose son, Chris, was one of the boys who found the dead woman, said that they held her legs up to support her until other neighbours came to help.

She said: "The two boys were very brave and didn't hesitate. They managed to hold up the woman and ease the weight on her until adults arrived on the scene.

"When she was cut down she was in a bad way and it looked as if she was not breathing."

She added: "I wish something could be done to help these young people. They've got to understand it's devastating for the loved ones they leave behind."

A South Wales Police spokesman said that the death was not being treated as suspicious and is not believed to be linked with other deaths in the area.

Very strange goings-on in a pretty small county, although this isn't a 'youth suicide' as such like many of the prior ones. Still, very sad for the families involved. :(
