View Full Version : Feeling good 'In Rainbows'
Ok ok, this is hardly a new release going by the speed of modern culture....but... Been listening to this album pretty much 5-6 times (a lot for me) a week since it came out 3 months ago...and on every listen it still hits me.

This is a great album, definitely their best in my opinion.. and its got a beautiful sense of light and shade, and artistic freedom that I just havent heard any bad/artist produce since the early 70's...and even those oldies never had the soundscape brilliance that this album maximises beautifully on high quality audio. I haven't enjoyed an album so much in a long time. This is back of the neck stuff.
These 5 rather bland and boring gentlemen do something ethereal on record. I always consider albums highly when I cannot compare them to anything else I have in my collection... they stand alone...sometimes there's no real reason for this - that is, there's nothing exactly ground breaking on the record... but it just has something inescapably separate.
If anyone hasn't downloaded a high quality version of this (freely or otherwise) or better still bought the very cleverly packaged CD edition.. i really think you should get it, put it on pretty loud at a time you are undisturbed and once you get past the initial heavier facade of the first two tracks you will be on a musical bliss journey. Its the closest thing to a rock based epiphany you're gonna get this side of the rapture :D

I cant say its their best.......but i still absolutely love it. I agree that the more you listen to it the more the songs begin to unfold themselves and like most other Radiohead material you have to put your own effort into understanding it ...perhaps. Videotape to me is an instant classic, my favorite song on the album. The Scotch Mist version is brilliant also
Radiohead will always be one of my favorites along side Sigur Ros & Portishead - Bands who play by their own rules and don't get caught up with transient press hype and pop culture mentality.

Gotta agree....Radiohead is probably the best and most original "mainstream" band around at the moment imho:)
In Rainbows is a fantastic album...it took a bit of listening for me to "get it" but it was well worth it.....but then most of their stuff is not easily accessible to the casual listener. It most often does require a bit of effort but you are certainly well rewarded when you do "get it":)
I'm off to see them in Paris this June and just cannot wait!!!!
I would have liked to have seen them in the UK but they're doin' all open air stuff...I wanted to see them indoors and Paris was the nearest option........actually works out the same or a little cheaper as spending a weekend in London!!

radiohead is awesome!!!!
i remember when i first bought it and played it.
when i listened to 15 step i thought something was wrong with the cd!!
but then i noticed thats how the song was suppossed to sound.
definitely a great album but not their best.....so far.

They got lazy and crap after KID A. Which along with THE BENDS is their joint best album.
I mean listen to THE BENDS and see what they can really do.
Lazy nob twiddlers is all they are these days.
And Yorke's lyrics are pure drivel. Like he just can't be arsed and hopes noone notices. Noone has except me.
It's a shame is what it is.

some of the stuff they write is too minimalist, I didnt like yorke's solo album at all.. rainbows has its highs and lows imo.. Weird Fishes Arpeggi gets tired after repeated listening.. im loving Nude though.. Kid a will always be my best.

Gawd you sound like my cousin, the bends!! the bends!! anything after thats crap. Its called progression. OK computer and hail to the thief are fucking amazing and nob twiddling is part of their evolution. People always say that for whatever reason about whoever, awe they were crap after such an such an album, its progression/evolution!

Mate, you've got your quality control nob turned off, and hearing only what you want to hear.
I said Kid A is also their best album.
That was a bit nob twiddly but at least they put effort into it... Their new stuff has just left me cold despite wasting money on their albums and really wanting to like what I heard, just couldn't because it's just not much cop.
They sound like a band who are resting on their laurels and contrary to what you think they are not progressing, they have stagnated...
That's prolly the real reason they're rubbish these days.

Ive always thought OK Computer and Kid A were flawless albums. After that comes The Bends and In Rainbows. I thought Hail To The Thief was brilliant but what i think spoils it a bit is that theres a few filler songs on there that in my opinion doesnt have to be there.
Amnesiac is probably my least favourite even though its got the amazingly flawless Pyramid Song.
Pablo Honey well....sometimes i pretend its not one of their albums, lol.

I have to agree, they got as lazy as fuck after Kid A.. A lot of people buy a Radiohead album and expect it to be awe inspiring and profound just because its a Radiohead album and in their minds Radiohead can do no wrong.
I got in rainbows when it came out and imo its not that brilliant. Maybe I need to let it grow on me a bit more.

Funny enough, when people started freaking out over 'creep' I concluded that the kids had lost the plot. An over rated band which I think have actually improved over the years. I have 'the bends' and it's......ok.....never was big on alternative. I also have 'ok computer' and the last two albums. They've gotten more articulate, not lazy. I like the latest album.
