I just saw this & thought I'd share it here. IMO, it's definitely a step in the right direction for the scientific community to be finally seeing the value of this at last :D (although I found the last paragraph of the article to be quite lame:rolleyes:)
Scientists are beginning to uncover evidence that meditation has a tangible effect on the brain.
Sceptics argue that it is not a practical way to try to deal with the stresses of modern life.
But the long years when adherents were unable to point to hard science to support their belief in the technique may finally be coming to an end.

Good article, thanks Lookfar. Maybe this sort of thing could be taught to High School Students. It would be IMO a very valuable tool to have , to take one through life.
Love the Avatar Lookfar ;) :D

Hi Lem :)
Yeah I totally agree. It's about time they really studied this scientifically & would be a VERY valuable lesson to be taught at school (or anytime really:))

Listen people, it's up to you. I am an experienced meditator. All I say is this.
If you want to be happier and more content, intelligent, faster thinking, quick reactions, patient, giving, healthier and less attached to people and things, and want to know the truth to your exitstence then learn to get through the first three hurdles to meditation. These are doubt, frustration and bordom!! if you can do this for six months then you will stick at it.
The more time you put into it the more you get out of it. People are willing to train for years to become professional at something and finally they succeed. If you do the same for meditation you will succeed and reap the benefits and bliss plus a whole lot more
One word of warning!! BE NOT ATTACHED TO THOUGHTS. Let them come, analyse them, then let them go, if it be good or bad, just let them go. If negative thoughts persist, just become indifferent toward them. Do not under any circumstances try to block out any negative thought. Just be with it. This is the best advice I can give and if you read the wrong books on meditation as I did to begin with you will go insane. So whomever should read this and begin meditating. Know now and feel blessed for you truly are to have stumbled on this teaching that decieves not.

Any links or sources your can provide batfink? I have found a pretty successful method for emptying my mind and entering what I call the void but I'd like to learn more and be better able to use it in my life. Also, I'd like to know about how to handle pesky dark thoughts.
I started imagining a candle flame and focusing on my breathing. Also, I occasionally imagine a triangle image and focus on that. However, this may sound odd but I clear my thoughts even quicker if I imagine my body being covered in flames or if I imagine myself meditating on the edge of a mountain peak. No one taught me to imagine myself on a mountain or on fire they just came to me naturally and have worked well.

I'm a dedicated Buddhist/Shaman and have been for many years less the drugs. To get the best source material to learn from, then you will have to get in touch with a monistary. The only books worth their salt come directly from them. All other Buddhist books on the market will send one insane should they follow the teachings. They know nothing and are simply out to make a fast buck. The other books I can recommend are all the books by Carlos Castenada. I have them all in pdf format and will give to anyone that so wishes to know their true nature. I will only give three at a time because I like to know a persons thoughts/questions, plus am limited on file transfer size. Send an email to batfink010@yahoo.com
I can't help you apart from what I've already said in previous post about thoughts. Take that lesson with you in your total being.
A bit of advice. Before you start thinking one pointedly with images, just try and have a clear mind empty of all thought. It takes a long time/years. Should you have any questions I will answer if I can and when I can asap.
On tuesday I'm hoping to get T-Mobile internet access, so I can't transfer any files until I have that. Just be patient with me, I'm sharing someone elses wi-fi connecton at moment. It's extreamly slow and can just about post these messages.
We as human beings know nothing.

I was just reading Castaneda's The Art of Dreaming a moment ago and was wondering if it were a valid source. Then I checked this thread and went
Two things have popped up in several, unrelated places for me today: One, watch The Peaceful Warrior and two, read Castaneda's books. :)
