View Full Version : Smoking & negative social attitudes

Hi, for a while now I have been receiving increased negative comments relating to me being a smoker from non smokers. Usually these comments are passed by people who I have not known for long i.e clients, fellow workers, people recently meet at social gatherings etc.

In the most part the comments go like

"you really should give them up" or
"you smoke to much" or
"they'll kill you" or words to similar effect.

My responses are usually something positive that affirms my belief on smoking

"smoking only makes me healthier" or
"they're good for me" etc

see http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1171&highlight=smoking

Although it is starting to piss me off, so much so that I almost retorted to a client (who is a homosexual) "you're such a fuck'en fag, doesn't your arse hurt....", but I bit my tongue:eek:

Anyway, I would like to know what gives a non smoker the right to verbalise there derogatory comments towards smokers, particularly when it is not "politically correct" to make a comment in a similar vain towards anyone of a different race, religion, gender, age, sexual bias etc etc

I would appear that the collective program has moved the status of smokers to the "feel free to pass comment, beat up on" status for they are a lower being. If you are a non smoker you can feel all powerful "pointing the bone" at one of these filthy lepers...you get the idea

When did it become o.k to beat up on smokers? I can understand the desire to not have people smoking in restaurants, airports etc, that is just common decency, but who gave approval for the boot to be put in?

Anyway, I will vehemently defend my right to smoke and the positive effects it has on my life and health, and my retorts to those who think they are in a position to pass judgement will be equally as tardy as I can muster, but I shouldn't have to!

I would like to know, is this a Oz thing or is happening in other countries? Does this happen to others (I know there are more than a few smokers on this forum;)

Cheers Garth the smoker:)

Oh yes Garth...I am hearing you.

I too am a smoker.
Ok let me pose this.
if an enormously obese person was sitting in mcDonalds with his/her obese children, scoffing big macs, fries and drinkin copious amounts of coke, would it be right of me to walk over tell the parent that they are a fat revolting pig who should be ashamed of him/herself for letting theselves look the way they look as I find it totally offensive and that they are also responsible for making sure there own kids are going to die young by allowing them to follow in their footsteps?

If I did this in public, in front of others, would this be what anyone would consider acceptable?I think not. Even though i consider this form of behaviour child abuse.

So as A smoker, I smoke cigerettes when i feel like it. outside, away from my children. It is my choice to smoke and I wont inflict it on my children if I choose to do so. When they are adults they can make a choice for themselves whether or not they choose to smoke.

can the same be said for the parent who fills their child up the shit mentioned above?

yet society will now publicly condemn a smoker and it is apparently ok to pass comments as garth mentioned above.....yet we are meant to be politically correct when it comes to fat obese parents slowly but surely killing their own children?

What do others think?

Hi garth!

This is a classic case of the collective-conscience being programmed by the "programmers" to keep the "sheeple" programmed with their latest agenda.

Once programmed, the sheeple begin their bleating and effectively police each other.

Smokings bad for your barrrrrr You really ought to give up you know barrrrr, global warming is caused by co2 emissions barrrrr, Bin Laden organized 911 barrrrrrr

Its all part of the sheeple program....

I might head down to macca's tomorrow and do a bit of my own bleating BAAAARRRRRRR
I might have a coffee and a ciggy while i'm there and abuse gay people in the car park, then on the way home call in to the local church and tell them they are all delusional idiots........I may even get the chance to run down a few elderly people on the way

This world surely is a mess

Thanks Lime & Purple

you guys get the idea, you just would'nt go and get stuck into a fat person, or a gay etc etc, its just not right, so why is it O.K to slam a smoker?

Hi guys

Just jumping in here too as I totally agree with what you're saying :)

It also makes me cringe when I see these obese people with obese children eating fast food, but I wouldn't dare say anything to them, it's their choice (although maybe not for the kids, but you know what I'm saying). So what makes it seem ok for people to tell smokers that what they're doing is so wrong?!?!

I occasionally smoke but never around my son or other children. I also work for a tobacco company & it's increasingly hard to find venues / restaurants to cater for smokers these days, it seems you're getting frowned upon to even request it!! This will also become worse on 1st July when the UK brings in the smoking ban. Although this has made some people give up (or attempt to) & saying that, one guy I know who's just recently given up has now got a constant cough that he can't get rid of - hows that for irony!!

I think people should just loosen up & give smokers a break :) & where would the governments be without all that tax money!!

Loving the avatars :)

Im a smoker and proud god damn it lol!
I do think its disgusting the way smokers are being treated I was watching corrie the other night (:o) there were so many references that smokers were idiots, smelly and going to die I just turned the TV off I don’t know what else I was expecting from it though, the other day Liz Mc Donald was teaching us that you can't take beer of a pub premises, where will the programming stop its in everything!!

Have you seen the advertising here in UK with slogans like 'If you smoke, YOU STINK!' and such, its just wrong!!!

This thread has had me in stitches:D . It's so true about people thinking they can pass judgement on a smoker, but leave the obese people to get on with it:rolleyes: In England people keep saying 'roll on july' (when the smoking ban comes in). I was sitting in a pub having a fag, and the looks you get now from people who dont smoke, but are pissed as farts and on their 5th packet of crisps:mad: droning on about how wonderful it will be when no-one is smoking. It's these same people who queue from midnight for pizza hut to open:eek:

Thanks guys, have confirmed that it is more than an oz thing, And the picks are great, (well..not really, they pretty much suck arse) http://img76.imageshack.us/img76/9118/smoking1jj6.gif but proves there is definite initiative to gang up on smokers and make them the problem. rather ironic when you consider all the tax paid.

I don't know a single smoker who isn't considerate of non smokers when smoking, so I am at a loose to see any justification for the discrimination. As limelady stated it has become part of the programming, we are becoming the next secterian group to be beaten. Might be a set up for the next NWO terror attack, a smoking terrorist (AKA CIA op) might burn down the white house with a zippo, then hey presto all smokers will be rounded up and thrown in the clink!

I used to do a direct sales job where we would 'turn around' the negative attitude of a customer. I alway liked using humour, so, my take on these three responses would be.....

1. "Hey, I'm not giving any of these up to you, go and buy your own."
..."Nahh, they stop me from commiting mass murder."
...you giggle, turn your head to the side and start talking, "Yeah, I know, you said they'd say that...really, your kidding ?", then look back at the person and smile while nodding your head, "Mmmmmm."

2. "You ain't seen nothing yet."
..."I only do it to stop myself from making silly comments, you know what I mean ?"
..."Not yet, but I'm getting there.", said with a big smile.

3. "Not if I smoke them first."
..."Naahhh, these are pacifist cigarettes, they wouldn't kill anyone."
..."Why would they kill me, I love them ?", said with sincerity.

iv been a smoker for about 7 yrs and people somtimes comment on how white my teeth are, iv never had a filling or any other work done in my life.

all this banning smoking isnt for our own good, cos drinking causes more injuries/ deaths, so banning smoking must be a NWO test or some big player in the tobacco industry and illuminatti fell out or stopped paying up.

they are right!
smoking is bad, but swallowing the chemtrails, fluoride and aluminum baking powder is good for you.
and, mercury is really good for you, especially if used in vaccine "preservatives" that are injected in infants and children. and, please disregard the fact that those preservatives are some 17,000 times over the safe limit.

</sarcasm>

i was a smoker.
i have no problem with anyone smoking as long as they are not blowing the smoke at me.
but illuminati fuckheads put hundreds of chemicals, even radioactive shit in cigarettes, so that is the real danger for your health, not tobacco by itself.
BTW, illuminati created and they are expanding stigma against the smokers and t effort is worldwide!

i have read somewhere that Amazon 'tobacceros' are saying that tobacco makes some kind of connection with the spirit/soul.

maybe that is why elitists are trying to ban smoking worldwide?

and have you noticed that elitists do not smoke?

they are right!
smoking is bad, but swallowing the chemtrails, fluoride and aluminum baking powder is good for you.
and, mercury is really good for you, especially if used in vaccine "preservatives" that are injected in infants and children. and, please disregard the fact that those preservatives are some 17,000 times over the safe limit.

</sarcasm>

i was a smoker.
i have no problem with anyone smoking as long as they are not blowing the smoke at me.
but illuminati fuckheads put hundreds of chemicals, even radioactive shit in cigarettes, so that is the real danger for your health, not tobacco by itself.

Thanks King, I for one have reprogrammed my DNA to accept all inputs into my body as good, healthy, clean, nutritious, organic etc, this goes not only for smoking, but for food, water etc

I have been looking for information regarding smoking interfering with micro chips, NWO control mechanisms etc and as you stated above smoking assisting in connection to the soul, have not been able to find out a lot. Does anyone have any links or further info on this? http://img76.imageshack.us/img76/9118/smoking1jj6.gif

I have smoking stints, but now when i do, I only smoke organic cigarettes. They're called "american spirit" as in indian, with indian symbols on the front; a triangle with an eagle, but at least it's a lot less threatening than the symbols on every other brand. It's the only organic brand that's available here, there used to be two.

They taste better, they're 100% pure tobacco (at least they claim it to be, it tastes like it), no additives anywhere though, don't know about the pic on the cigarette itself. When you light it up it burns naturally, not like the regular types that have something in them that makes them burn easily (gunpowder I think). Have you noticed when you light those up, you can see sparks?

I recommend them. If you're gonna smoke, smoke those, organic and pure. You guys have no idea what's in the regular cigarettes that you smoke, and it aint just tobbacco. I don't know if the organic type is 100% pure either, but it tastes like it and it's abetter option anyway.

I'm a smoker (as is all my family apart from my brother) and we're treated like lepers in society these days, it makes me so angry. Especially when they go on about passive smoking, its a pack of lies. I suppose it stops the sheeple thinking about chemicals in the air, food and water, mobile phone masts giving off microwaves and all the other sh*t thats going on. People are also being encouraged to report smokers to the authorities if they see them puffing away in a public place.

I mainly smoke roll ups of golden virginia cos we're poor, I don't think they have as many additives as proper cigarettes. My grandad smoked until he was 80 and lived to the ripe old age of 84. That's what I tell the brainwashed when they tell me its bad for my health.

We should all take note that Hitler had a huge anti-smoking campaign that resembles what's taking place worldwide.

I smoke roll ups (the purer the better) and it seems that nicotine mimics one of the body's most significant neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. This is the neurotransmitter most often associated with cognition in the cerebral cortex. Acetylcholine is the primary carrier of thought and memory in the brain. It is essential to have appropriate levels of acetylcholine to have new memories or recall old memories.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) is the acetyl ester of carnitine, the carrier of fatty acids across Mitochondrial membranes. Like carnitine, ALC is naturally produced in the body and found in small amounts in some foods. ...Research in recent years has hoisted ALC from its somewhat mundane role in energy production to nutritional cognitive enhancer and neuroprotective agent extraordinaire. Indeed, taken in its entirety, ALC has become one of the premiere ?anti-aging? compounds under scientific investigation, especially in relation to brain and nervous system deterioration.

ALC is found in various concentrations in the brain, and its levels are significantly reduced with aging.(1) In numerous studies in animal models, ALC administration has been shown to have the remarkable ability of improving not only cognitive changes, but also morphological (structural) and neurochemical changes. ...ALC has varied effects on cholinergic activity, including promoting the release(2) and synthesis(3) of acetylcholine. Additionally, ALC promotes high affinity uptake of choline, which declines significantly with age.(4) While these cholinergic effects were first described almost a quarter of a century ago,(5) it now appears that this is only the tip of the ALC iceberg. [Gissen, VRP's Nutritional News, March, 1995]

Work in the Laboratory of Neurochemistry at the Barrow Neurological Institute principally concerns molecules critically involved in such signaling called nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR). nAChR act throughout the brain and body as "molecular switches" to connect nerve cell circuits involved in essential functions ranging from vision and memory to the control of heart rate and muscle movement.

Defects in nAChR or their loss cause diseases such as myasthenia gravis and epilepsy and can contribute to Alzheimer?s and Parkinson?s diseases and schizophrenia.

nAChR also happen to be the principal targets of tobacco nicotine. ...nicotine-like medicines show promise in the treatment of diseases such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Tourette?s syndrome and in alleviation of anxiety, pain, and depression, suggesting involvement of nAChR in those disorders.

...We have shown that numbers and function of diverse nAChR subtypes can be influenced by many biologically active substances, ranging from steroids to local anesthetics, and by agents acting on the extracellular matrix, the cytoskeleton, on second messenger signaling, and at the nucleus. We also have shown that chronic nicotine exposure induces numerical upregulation of many diverse nAChR subtypes via a post-transcriptional process that is dominated by effects on intracellular pools of receptors or their precursors.

Some current studies are testing our hypothesis that chronic nicotine exposure, as occurs with habitual use of tobacco products, disables nAChR and the nerve cell circuits they subserve, thereby contributing to long-lasting changes in brain and body function. [Lukas, 1999]

There are two major types (or classes) of acetylcholine receptors in the body, and they are commonly named by the other drugs which bind to them: nicotine and muscarine. Muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) can bind muscarine as well as ACh, and they function to change the metabolism...

Acetylcholine acts on nicotine acetylcholine receptors to open a channel in the cell's membrane. Opening such a channel allows certain types of ions (charged atoms) to flow into or out of the cell. ...When ions flow, there is an electrical current, and the same is true in the nervous system. The flowing of ions, or the passing of current, can cause other things to happen, usually those "things" involve the opening of other types of channels and the passing of information from one neuron to another.

Nicotinic AChRs are found throughout the body, but they are most concentrated in the nervous system (the brain, the spinal cord, and the rest of the nerve cells in the body) and on the muscles of the body (in vertebrates).

We say that nicotine acts like ACh at the receptors to activate them, and both substances are called agonists. The opposite type of drug, something that binds to the receptors and does not allow them to be activated is called an antagonist.

...When a substance comes into the body that can interfere with ACh binding to muscle nAChRs, that chemical can cause death in a relatively short time (because you use muscles to do things like breathe). A class of chemicals in snake and other poisonous venoms, neurotoxins, do exactly that. If you are bitten by a krait or a cobra, for example, and enough venom gets into the blood, there will be enough of their neurotoxin in your body to shut down the diaphragm muscle expands your lungs. Without that muscle functioning, the person ceases to breathe and dies of asphyxiation.

One of the reasons we know so much about these receptors is precisely that--plants and people have used substances [acetylcholine antagonists] which cause paralysis and asphyxiation for a long time. Plants use them to prevent being eaten by herbivores. Animals use similar substances to paralyze their prey. At least one human neuromuscular disease is related to nAChRs, and that is myasthenia gravis...

So, as you can see, nAChRs are important to life. ...All known nicotinic receptors do share some common features. They are composed of 5 protein subunits which assemble like barrel staves around a central pore. ...When the ligand (ACh or nicotine) binds to the receptor, it causes the receptor complex to twist and open the pore in the center. [Pugh]

I do NOT smoke, yet I am WAAY more pissed off about this smoking ban in the UK than the smokers I know. One guy I know, who's been smoking for years, said that when the ban comes in, he'll try to give up smoking! What the fuck! Where is the rebellion in people! What has it to do with the government what people do in other people's establishments? Nothing! This is all drip drip, let's see how far we can control people. Aahhh!!

I'm not a fan of smoking by any means, but no one is forcing me to go into a smoky pub.
