Just caught a news bulletin saying that Health Minister Mary Hearney and another cabinet minister were sent live ammunition in the post by a previously unknown group calling themselves the Irish Civil Defence Force. There motivation appears to be opposition to fertility clinics and the abortion laws.
This sounds a bit fishy to me. Given that the referendum on the Lisbon Treaty is only a couple of months away, the timing sends up a red flag. A new headline grabbing para group designed to promote the image that people who want irish sovereignty taken seriously are dangerous christian nutters? I'm speculating that this is the connection the elite want to promote in the irish media so that they can present normal Pro europe attitude as rational and sane in contrast.
This Irish Civil Defence Force sounds from the name like it will develop into an anti-treaty vehicle, coming out in support of those in the 'No' camp, in order to discredit them in the public mind. kinda like Combat 18 coming out in support of David Icke in the early 1990s. Also, the fertility clinic thing sounds very like the Born Again Christians in America and this sends up another red flag. The irish Born Again Christians have been linked to the Satanic network by Jim Cairns in his website on missing people in Ireland. It is likely to have CIA/MI6 origins.
Anyway, I only heard the breaking news so I may be reading to much into this but we should get more details later in the day.
godspeed

Yeah, more than likely the bullets were sent from some office somewhere.
Strange choice of name too given that there is already an Irish Civil Defence "force".

An Update.
I got the name wrong. It's the Irish Citizens Defence Force. The word citizen makes me think it's even more likely this group is being deliberately being set up to eventually discredit the No campaign. They'll do this by (1) grab some headlines with the bullets in the post to introduce this group as a bunch of attention seeking nutters, then (2) when that impression has been made, they will come out with some statement supporting the 'No' vote. This will attach the stimga of 'attention seeking nutters' to people who are genuinely trying to get the info about the Lisbon treaty to the public. As soon as you bring up the problems with EU federalisation, militarism and the long term agenda of Monnet and Retinger for a United States of Europe, people will just roll their eyes and go: "Sounds like you're one of those Irish Citizens Defence Force muppets". It's the agent provocateur technique of infiltrating the camp you oppose in order to have it associated with extremism. See the Battle of Seattle WTO protests where the police allowed trouble-makers into the crowd in order to justify a police response, or Mossad's funding of extreme Neo-Nazi groups in the US in order to have anyone raising questions about the Rothschilds or Israel tarred with same brush.
The news of this ICDF group only broke this afternoon so I'm basically just guessing about its significance but there are some interesting things that have already come out. Threatening letters containing 'live rounds' were sent to Mary Hearney (Minister for Health) and Michael Martin (Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment). A couple of weeks ago similar packages were sent to some fertility clinics by the same group. Dr. Tony Walsh of the Dundrum clinic that recieved a package was adviced not to go public with the news so as not to give the oxygen of publicity to this group. In the meantime, 4 CIA planes passed through Shannon Airport in the last week including one on Wednesday and one on Saturday (thanks to dangermouse for that info). Then today the news breaks publically. Bertie Ahern describes it as a 'nasty and sinister turn of events' and reveals that he has known about it for a couple of days (since Saturday maybe?). I wonder did the CIA order them to step it up after the initial packages to fertility clinics were not made public? Anyway, having a group that's publically regarded as 'nasty and sinister' then come out and oppose the treaty or make threats to the Yes camp would certainly have the effect of tarnishing the genuine opposition.
I'll keep an on it and see if it does play out this way.

Mary Hearney - Minister for Health
Michael Martin - former Minister for Health...(now minister for trade)
2 Fertility Clinics - that have been accused of destroying embryos
In the above targets of the scare letters, the only link is their roles in the ongoing heated debate on embryo storage and whether it is right to destroy unusable or unwanted embryos. This is of course connected to ongoing debates in Ireland around the general issues of abortion and whether an embryo should have the same rights a fully grown person. And as you know the so called Pro-Life lobby in the US often threaten or bring violence against doctors and such practicing abortion.
So most likely this is a person or persons attempting to copy this tactic.
All those other hypotheses are inventive speculation and most likely fiction - and I think distracting from the real issues here... right-wing catholic extremists trying to enforce their views on everyone else through the threat of violence. All though of course certain of those 'pro-life' elements in Ireland are connected to dodgy Knights of Columbanus etc., so maybe there is a more conspiratorial link there, but just not EU-related.
But we'll see how it plays out.
