hi
here is a quick tutorial for those people who would like to download videos from youtube and convert into mpegs or avi. Some videos are being removed so this is a good way of building your own library.
Its very easy using just 2 programs.
Step 1: You need to be using the Mozilla Firefox web browser (much safer than internet explorer) http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/
Step 2: Then download the firefox add-on that allows you download movies that have the .flv file extension. Youtube use this file ext. to embed the movies in their site.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006
Step 3: A new icon should appear on your the bottom left of your browser window like this.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/new-icon.jpg
Step 4: Go to youtube and select a movie you would like to download, just click and play as you normally would.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/step4.jpg
Step 5: Click the new icon on the bottom left and a new window opens asking you where you would like to save the video
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/step5.jpg
Step 6: Save the file to your desired folder and a new download status box will open and the file will start to download in the .flv format
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/step6.jpg
Step 7: You should now have a .flv file on your pc of the video you have just downloaded.
Step 8: You now need to decide what you want to do with that file. If you want to watch it direct from your pc you will need a flv player. Here is a free one, dont pay for one

If you would like to burn to disc then you need to convert the .flv to mpg or avi formats. This is great because you can play on your big tv and also pass on to friends etc and spread the word
Step 9: Download a free convertor (SUPER ©) from
www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/step9.jpg
Step 10: Start the download then install SUPER ©
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/step10.jpg
Step 11: Open SUPER © and select the 3 settings below.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/step11.jpg
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/step11a.jpg
I have found these to work fine, if anyone knows any better settings please shout up :)
Step 12: Now you are ready to convert, just drag and drop all the files you want to convert in to the bottom box
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/step12.jpg
Step 13: Make sure you have the boxes checked on the files you want to convert. The image below shows just one but you can do more than one at a time. Then click the "encode active files" and wait, it takes about 1 minute for each file.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/citroen999/step12.jpg
once converted to your pc simply burn to disc using your fave burning program like nero etc
thanks

The vid is in nine parts and they stop access to four of them. That's not right surely.
I had someone use one of my vids last week to make money for his own pocket. 'The Police - You're Freindly Ringtones.'
Hi Darren
Some twat is using your video on youtube to do an advert sort of thing for ringtones. Maybe you should report it as abuse of the rules.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RGj2maxngFE
Youtube pulled his whole channel before I got in touch with them. Obviously my original vid is still on youtube and if they ever pull just one of my vids I'm off there and making a vid about them!

SUPER seems to have a lot of advanced settings in the screenshots.. which is nice.
For the mac users(like me) there is GetTube, which is a simple GUI with a 'download cart' that converts the videos to MP4 or MP3 while downloading them.
http://web.mac.com/simonvrel/en/download/files/GetTube.dmg
v2.3 is stable as ever.

Even easier..
Download youplay for firefox. You can grab vids from YouTube, Google Video, Metacafe or MySpace.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search?q=youplayer&status=4
All you do is drag the link into the playlist on the side.. Then in the playlist right click and download. Simple.
Then you can play them with VLC player

ok, here goes...
real player 11 is quite easy to d/l movies..
simply install the player, visit youtube and play a movie, then right click and select download movie. The movie will then download to your real player library.
But one problem, you will still need a convertor/ encoder to convert to mpg. But real player 11 has an option to burn straight to disc but you can only burn a vcd unless you upgrade which costs money.
If you try and burn a vcd it encodes the files before burning and takes around 30 mins
let me have a play around with it and see if i can suss a quick process

right then...
update on downloading and encoding./conversion
realplayer is fine for downloading but does not convert to mpeg unless you buy the upgrade which is £19.99... probably money worth spending if you are struggling to do the converting etc.
The goodthing is its an all in program download, conversion and burn either vcd which are burned to a 80 mins 700mb standard disc or dvd.
There is a 14 day trial so try it and see if its worth it.
Badpoints, burning takes ages upto an hour as it converts as it burns and once burned it may or may not work on most dvd players.
The method i posted takes a bit more effort but its free and definitely works on bcd, svcd or dvd.
One hiccup with either method is that you will find is that when you convert from .flv to .avi or .mpeg the files increase in size so you may not fit a 8 part movie on 1 disc. You will probably have to burn to 2 discs just like in the old days when you had pirate copies of films on 2 discs.
But overall both should work fine..
if any one has an easier method then shout up
if you want me to post screen shots of the realplayer method then let me know
right then...
That's a very good good review, citroen999 :)
This picture is one I took for you whilst I was looking for fossils after the storm.

I'm not sure about this method, but couldn't an avi or mpeg be washed through WMM by clicking ctrl+p to reduce the size?
It was remiss of me not to mention the fee :o

I just want to be able to edit videos in movie maker so i can comprise one myself
so am i right in saying that you want to d/l videos fro youtube and put them into windows movie player?
First problem is windows movie maker wont play movies with a .flv extension, ideally they need to be .avi or .mpeg. So you need to use the encoder/ convertor to change them from .flv to .avi etc. Then you will be able to edit, cut etc each file in move maker..

I went through this crap yesterday, lol,
I eventually ended up doing what Strider (on the third page) said to do and that was to add on 'YouPlayer' at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search?q=youplayer&status=4
Then, if you want to watch off line, download a FLV Player.

I use the www.movavi.com (http://online.movavi.com/) to convert and download the files from youtube and other sites. it can convert not only videos in many quality types (avi,mpeg,wmv...) but it can even cut out the sound (mp3 in 192kbps and wav in 128kbps formats). After conversion, you will be emailed the link to your files.
No install necessary, online version is quick and fine. recommend you this one, really

I've just knocked a little vid together to show an anonymous member through PM how to download with video grabber.... though this isn't as good as vDownloader IMO (just looks better) as it still leaves them in flv format and vDownloader converts them for you. (unfortunately I can't get vDownloader to work on vista).. I use the SUPER converter to change them (on page one of this thread) as it is the best for all formats and free.

(If you live in Australia, replace the 'www's in youtube links to 'au' when you want to download. Videos which have an age confirmation button don't download.)

I went ahead and installed it (despite hating windows media player cos its crap and wont play anything). Right at the end of the installation microsoft demanded I send my wondows details, i,e,. serial number for verification. I use a pirated copy of windows so it was all a waste of time...and tubesucker can no longer do what it used to. wankers have sold out by the look of it.

If you download the Firefox plugin download helper and then add the converter you can grab media files with ease.
There converter can be used free but you will get less features and format options with the free version.
Web page is here http://www.downloadhelper.net/
You will need to define your default conversion method and when you select a file to pull down select download&convert not quick download. The files will be converted automatically after the download.

One dodgy way would be to use a screen capture program, like 'camtasia'.
And if you don't get audio, try recording that seperatley and then adding the two together in an editing prog. I know that sounds like a bitch, and at times it can be.

I use DownloadHelper and then DVDflick( Free) to convert. If anybody goes down this path one thing to be aware of. In the DVDflick setup , select ISO.
When the ISO is finished then burn with your DVD software. DVDflick has an option for automatic burn , but I along with several others on the Flick forum have found using the automatic setup can end up with coasters. Whereas the ISO method comes up trumps every time.
