Man refuses to pay fine for swearing

A FACTORY worker is making a one-man stand against the police after he was fined for swearing.

John Curran is refusing to pay the £80-on-the-spot fine when he swore in Rugby's town centre.

The 40-year-old from New Street, New Bilton is standing his ground to make a point as he believes officers will carry on targeting others to make money.

The incident happened last Saturday when he was stopped and searched by police who thought he had drugs.

Their search found nothing - and Mr. Curran admitted he swore in anger at the officers.

"The next minute I was handcuffed and put in a police cell," he told the Advertiser.

"This is not policing - this is a racket just to get the funds up."
Mr. Curran said the trouble began when he was walking home on his own at about 9pm after watching the Ireland versus Scotland Six Nations rugby match.

As he walked past McDonalds, he was asked by police to go into the alleyway - but they would not say why.

He added: "I had my iPod on so I didn't know who they were at first - they could have been anyone.

"They would not
say why they stopped me and I got angry and swore at them. I shouldn't have done it but I still believe I have done nothing wrong."

He said his anger was compounded by the fact that in the past, he had called Rugby Police about three separate incidents - a random machete attack on his house, credit card fraud and his bike being stolen - but in all cases, they did not respond, he claimed.

"In all those cases, I had to do my own police work," said Mr. Curran.

"I found my bike, along with many other stolen bikes, and discovered where the fraud was happening. But despite calls, the police never came out.

"I am a man of good character who works hard and now the police want to take a third of my wages away for swearing. Police said they will drop it if I just paid them but I will not do it."

According to sources this man was strip-searched as well before being released from the police station at 4 in the morning
this town also has CCTV talking cameras i wonder if under the freedom of information act he will be able to get this footage to help in his fight i think not !!!!!!

Hi grannymoose & welcome to the forum :)

That's absolutely awful to hear, but unfortunately it's not uncommon these days for them to not respond to this sort of attack, which is a time when you really need them:( Although give them some trivial thing like the above example & they're pulling out no stops, it really makes your blood boil!

I wish your son a speedy recovery & hope this hasn't had any sort of psychological effect on him, bless.

I am sorry to hear what happened to that man and your son. I am afraid that the police state has already arrived. I cannot go into my story as too long, but I was arrested for walking up a country lane minding my own business, handled roughly and bungled into a police car. I went out for a walk basically...one guy apologised so that I would not complain. In future I would complain in a big way, and I was minding my own business.

yep, very odd. The idea that they will make money from the innocent is becoming more obvious to the people who are being done over for minor things...

I am sorry to say that this is part of the cause stalking phenomena. I have spent a year looking at that concept. Random events stop being random when a pattern starts to emerge, the guy who had stuff stolen and then the police did nothing is normal, they will say it is too small to investigate..

Unfortunately criminal gangs have people everywhere and once the scales are tipped in a way that is not in your favour then what happens is that you then become a target as you complain too much...the police may have decided that the blokes face did not fit. Someone may have complained to the police or the gang were made aware of him and then the campaign starts.

You probably think that the idea is stupid, however remember the police are around the bad guys all day every day, so that they will some police cross the line to make a quick buck or two. They will be aware of the operating procedures that are involved in crime big and small.

I do not trust them at all. Once you let them know that you could also become a target.

I have a masonic lodge in my area totally police only. I dont want to take the thread totally off track but the big rumour is that the police are taking part in targetting people for a reason and it is connected to psychological harassment. Some actually say they are orchestrating organised crime. Rural areas seem to have low crime rates. Well this has to go hand in hand with criminal and police alliances. Keeping the area crime free but at a price...

sorry to hear that about your son and tell him what does'nt kill you makes you stronger....i had that happen to me when i was young and it did'nt cross my mind to call the cops over it.....there was 3 persons involved and i got knocked out flat in a dark lane.....but i knew them and this is what i done....i got them one at a time and scared the shit out the first one the other two would'nt even look at me again now thats what i call justice....these kind of kids are bullies and need each other to fight but when you get them on thier own they are quaking 2yr olds...not that im insighting voilence but sometimes it can only be an eye for an eye or your reputation will decline and you'll get others chipping away at you....hope he stands strong and does'nt let it traumatise him too much...get even get angry and finish it...that what i did anyhow...

Police (or Internal Security) Attaché / SCTIP (Service de coopération technique internationale de police - Police International Technical Cooperation Service)

Under the authority of the French Ambassador, the Police Attaché represents France’s two Police Forces, the National Police and National Gendarmerie, in Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK), working with the British police and immigration and civilian security services.

A Commissaire de Police, he is supported by a Deputy Police Attaché, currently a lieutenant-colonel in the National Gendarmerie, and four National Police captains specializing in counter-terrorism, serious organized crime and illegal immigration.

The service is tasked with reinforcing international cooperation on security, on the basis of international and European agreements signed by France. The SCTIP assists in implementing France’s foreign policy on internal security with the help of almost 100 overseas offices, covering around 135 countries. In this area, it devises, studies and develops technical cooperation projects, which it also carries out and evaluates. For such studies it seeks outside funding. While promoting French technology, it coordinates and, if applicable, leads consultancy studies undertaken at international, and especially European Union level. The main tasks of the Police Attaché’s Office are:

1. To facilitate operational cooperation between the French National Police and Gendarmerie and the UK police forces, law-enforcement agencies and illegal immigration services, etc.

2. To organize and implement technical cooperation on internal security between the UK and France.

3. To represent all French Interior Ministry directorates in their contacts with Home Office directorates.

4. To support the French Embassy departments.

I am sorry to hear what happened to that man and your son. I am afraid that the police state has already arrived.

I'm tending to agree that it's already here as well. How many bogus laws have to be passed and how many rights have to be stripped away before people realize they've been jailed without even knowing it? How many more cameras will it take?

"To protect and serve." Nice motto for our coppers. The only thing I've seen them protect and serve is their own interests. Don't even get me started on corruption.

I have to agree,
In the UK, the relationship between barry boy yardies/ small time crooks etc and the police is one of holy matrimony. They cant survive without one another.
At the highest level of this low level compartment, they are business partners, falling on one another.
Will the E.U. sleepers in our councils and businesses change this operating procedure when they go live, as this is a local based thing? hmm, somehow i doubt it

Right. How do we contact this John Curran to give him all the support he needs. It isn't good enough that we just sit by and say 'oh, how terrible'. We have to actually GIVE support, either by writing to him, or attending at the court when he appears, so SOMETHING.

Time to DO SOMETHING. Instead of just standing around and saying how awful it all is.

Peaceful non-violent disobedience is called for here.

So, what's the line of action?

Here's hoping that others do the same thing. It isn't good enough anymore to just sit on the side lines while we watch others make a stand but we don't stand with them.

This stuff has happened to my family and to me too.

Let's stand together PLEASE.

Please everyone, just copy and paste and send it off.

We can do this if enough of us want to.
