Yesterday my wife recieved a phonecall from my Surgery asking for me. I wasn't in so they asked my wife if I smoked, she said I did. I'm fuming over this, I can't believe that they are now ringing people up to ask these questions. What's it got to do with them? I should be entitled to any care needed regardless of the cause the same as everyone else in the UK. That is what I pay my taxes for.

Will this mean I could be denied treatment in the future? What next? Will I recieve phonecalls asking if I drink, what my eating habits are, my sexual practices, how much I excersice I take, drug taking etc? Will I be penalised if I play sports and have an injury which they could say would not have happened if I didn't play? That may sound silly but where will it end?

I've noticed they are having a purge again on salt intake. Adverts on TV, on buses, everywhere. I suppose I better give a blood sample to my GP so he can check this. Now that the NHS want to put all our details on a massive database will this mean that many thousands of people will be able to access my records? Medical records should be the most private confidential information that people have.

Medical records should be the most private confidential information that people have.

Yes it should be and is (private confidential information) but in this day and age, it doesn't pan out that way.
Go and see your doctor and demand to see "your" file, after all, it's information you have provided to him/her, you won't be given access immediately.

*P.S Why don't you ring your doctors spouse and ask personal q's.

It stops with you. Tell them how you feel.

It stops with all of us, nothing will change if we don't speak up.

Thanks for your responses, I for one will be writing a letter to my GP asking for a full explanation of why this has happened. I know that it is not a unique move just by my surgery but a dictat from higher up the NHS probably the Department of Health, of which I will also be writing to. This is the curse of Centralisation. It is the same with schools as well, they are doing what they are told to keep their jobs and funding.

This is why Democracy is a myth and held together by fear. It may sound a small thing being rung up by your surgery but it opens up to much more when you piece it all together.

Personally I would like to say my GP is a wonderful Doctor who probably thinks all this is bollocks. He has time for everyone as I remember seeing him once about a small problem and ended up in his room for nearly an hour while he gave me his life story. He was f-ing and blinding and I went away with a smile. Then again he is a one off.
