hi folks,

Here is a link to a bartering org I have just joined. Although this is in the US the guy who set it up is a Brit. who now lives in my town.

Apparently this system will soon be in place in Swansea.

But for anyone with the desire to become more self sufficient getting this going in their area is about one of the most positive things around.

I believe help would available to anyone interested in starting one up.:)

Strange, it works fine here. Try a search for 'Freedom Force International'.

That should do the trick for ya.

We have a bartering system here in my town called the lets ( local exchange trading system) because we are an old market town with cobbled streets our currency is cobbles
i was in the lets when i lived in Melbourne in Australia and the currency there was gum-nuts
australia when i was there seemed to work well and it is a time exchange more so than a skill for example if i was an joiner and i went and spent 4hrs doing work for someone then i would get 4 gum-nuts in my bank, so then if i needed a cake for my sons 18th say i could go to the directory and ask how many gum-nuts it would cost to purchase the cake and so on

but unfortunately the one in my town is not the same , say if i wanted a aromatherapy massage i would have to pay 10 cobbles and £10 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
i tried to tell them that this defies the principle of the lets system and dosent recognize the diversity of peoples skills and especially there time ,it just excludes people just as money does as if some one on a low income cant afford £10

i felt this was a shame as it is a good idea and builds community spirit into the bargain , so i left the lets asi didnt agree with the exchange of money
i hope this remains a fair system for all as it has Hugh potential for the community it operates in

hi AG,
yes, I agree.
I have heard of the LETS org.
This is little more comprehensive and allows for all skills and material goods to be battered.

cobbles and gum nuts, LOL, pretty cool.

Thankyou for your reply.

Why do they want a membership fee in "national currency" to record transactions? So the tax man can take 'his cut'? LOL

Still think cash is king.;)
