A Tory councillor who sold a woman with learning difficulties for sex has been given a 12-month suspended jail sentence (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/20032007/140/tory-escapes-jail-pimping-woman.html). Alan Burkitt from West Bromwich, in the West Midlands, advertised the woman on the internet. The BBC reports that he was arrested on 5 March last year after she told her family what was going on. For the past year he has continued to be Councillor for Sandwell Metropolian Borough Council, Charlemont Ward, West Bromwich.
It's not everyday a pimp gets a slap on the wrist, but today was that day. Local newspaper "Express and Star" said on it's front page dated 20 March 2007 "Burkitt made £1,370", "charged 19 punters £50 each" (http://www.expressandstar.co.uk/2007/03/21/pimp-councillor-avoids-jail/). Its there in black and white, and well the maths don't add up for starters. The newspaper then tells how "Members of the woman's family wept in the public gallery as the sentance was announced". This is probably because the punishment didn't add up for them.
Cheif executive of Sandwell council meanwhile said ""We wholeheartedly welcome today's sentence and are pleased to see that justice has been done."
Justice done ? There wasn't even mention of this Councillor on the evening news, no mention of him taking obvious advantage of a woman with proported learning difficulties and and IQ of 52.
I wonder what sentance the "pimp" that appears in court before or after this Councillor is handed from the judge ?
Who said Pimping ain't easy ?
