Major hunt for girl, 9, missing since playing on school field last night
Last updated at 12:28pm on 20th February 2008

Police are searching for a nine-year-old girl who has been missing from home since yesterday evening. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=516706&in_page_id=1770&ct=5)

Shannon Matthews, from Dewsbury, disappeared after attending an after-school class at her primary school.

Shannon was last seen at around 7.30pm on Tuesday playing on the school field behind Westmoor Junior School.

A police spokesman said: "Officers are concerned for her welfare after she failed to return home from school. Shannon has never been missing before."

Police made enquiries throughout the night with a search of the surrounding area and have also made checks through friends and family.

Police are today continuing to liaise with the family and are checking the possible route which she may have taken on her way home.

She is described as white, around 4ft 1ins tall, with shoulder length, medium brown coloured hair that was possibly tied up in a ponytail.

She is also of slim build with blue eyes and freckles.

Shannon was wearing a black school jumper with a school logo on it, a white cotton T-shirt, black trousers and a black waist length coat with fur round the hood.

She was also wearing distinct pink and grey 'Bratz' furry boots.

It was only on local news until this afternoon.
Last night in Yorkshire it was absolutely freezing. As far as I know the child is still missing.
Are you a parent?

If it was your daughter/sister/neice, wouldn't you want it covered in the media?

umm think about it..... this is constantly in the news now.
problem reaction solution. just another thing to bring in the ID / chipping.

Im not a parent but I completely understand the worries etc. But missing people/children has gone on for years but its only recently that its constantly being pushed by mass media/news coverage. Scaring the parents out there to demand an answer to it all.

I hear the women where I work worried about their kids on the internet, who they are chatting to and possibly meeting etc .... rightfully so in some cases. But just another case of the media is emphasizing something to produce fear fear fear.

Im just doubting the means behind these cases now... ie. maybe not just random snatches.

.....madaline!?

who knows.

I fully understand where you're coming from :), but let's not forgot, there's some pretty fucked up people out there! Kids do get abducted, murdered, abused; it's craziness to think every incident is a conspiracy. Let's just hope this little girl turns up safe hey?

sure I hear what you are saying. Loud and clear. I understand P.R.S.
Been going to Icke events since he had an audience of about 10-20 people

Had a couple of very nasty experiences myself back in the 80's & 90's
both made national headlines...but I am NOT going to go into that on here!

UNTIL then: Could we please perhaps focus on the fact that:
A CHILD IS MISSING ?

or has true empathy for a fellow human just been hit by the way side ?

Supposedly the little girl had told her school mates that she was gonna run away from home so HOPEFULLY she is safe and well somewhere and not abducted. She was living with her mum and step dad before she disapeared. Maybe she went looking for her real dad so that she could saty there, the police probably have looked into that already ?

I know where you are coming from Nugget and know your frustration cos these evil bastards who run the media love this sort of shit to happen so that they can forward their agenda and I think that sometimes they actually carry out the crimes themselves so that their evil agenda can go through as quickly as possible

I hear you both.... its horrific.
Its just the nagging annoying feeling im getting increasingly from hearing this stuff.
I guess we all want answers.

I seriously hope she is found safe and sound. Ive just got a feeling its going to be another case thats gonna drag on and on with no real answer if shes not found soon.

But lets try and think positivly and hope for a good outcome.

Its awful really, and although kids have gone missing/abducted/murdered for years it doesn't stop the hell that the parents are going through... it was bloody freezing as mentioned, so I just hope there'll be a positive outcome for once to one off these stories.

I do think we hear more about it from the media these days - lets be honest we have 24/7 news coverage on god knows how many bloody channels, its not so many years ago we only had 3 channels, before all the rest came along..... what it does allow is the media to control how these stories are portrayed and shown, there are many fecked up people around who do fecked up things - some no doubt controlled, some just 'cos their computer programmes are fucked. And I'm afraid that the more these things happen the easier it is for the agendas to be brought into place -- its no doubt that micro-chipping humans is just around the corner, and these awful events will help that to become a physical reality..... while watching these events unfold all of us will be effected - some will be at one of the spectrum thinking its ALL bullshit and the story is a total fabrication and some thinking that these posts are ALL sick to even question that there may be other things happening other than a young lass missing.....

I just think we need to send positive thoughts that this will end in a good way for once, but not lose the sight that the aftermath and the media attention will be doing its best to feed us with the SOLUTION of what should be done..... Love is the only solution that will work in the end!

She was spotted yesterday morning ACCORDING TO A NEWSPAPER :-

And a man has contacted police to say he saw Shannon at about 9.30am yesterday on Moorcroft Road, heading towards School Lane.

Det Supt Brennan said the man had not known Shannon personally but had seen the police appeal and was "100 per cent certain" it was her.

Source (http://www.dewsburyreporter.co.uk/12670/Breaking-news-39Significant39-sightings-of.3802221.jp)

It's funny that a man saw her but did nothing about it

Edit : Maybe he saw her and then LATER heard that she was missing, that would explain it

He probably feels guilty for not reporting it to the police at the time. It might have saved a lot of worry for her parents and friends. It is the most upsetting time for anyone to lose a child, whether losing someone who has gone missing or death. Our hearts should go out to everyone involved.:)

Man Nailed to Cross in Attack

POLICE are investigating an attack on a man whose hands were nailed to pieces of wood in the same area where the search for missing Shannon Matthews is being carried out.

A 43-year-old man was taken to Pinderfields Hospital after officers were called to his house in School Lane, Dewsbury Moor, just after 11am on Sunday.

The man, who needed surgery for his injuries, is believed to have been found lying outside the property on a grassed area unable to move.

His 39-year-old neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "I was leaving my neighbour's house when I heard him singing. I told him to get up, thinking he was drunk, but he cried 'I can't'.

"My nephew Mark shouted 'Get over here, he's nailed to some wood."

The scared neighbour said, as she came closer, she realised it wasn't just wood – it was a cross.

Looks like she may have been abducted :(

The detective leading the hunt for a missing nine-year-old admitted yesterday he fears she could have been abducted.

A week after Shannon Matthews was last seen walking away from school in Dewsbury Moor, West Yorkshire, it also emerged that another girl called Shannon escaped an abduction attempt 10 miles away earlier the same day.

Shannon Selby, 12, was walking to school alone in Wakefield when a man pulled up and ordered her to "get in this car now".

She ran away as the man parked and made to chase her on foot.

She reached home safely and her mother rang the police.

An efit of the attacker was released yesterday.

Police said there was no evidence to link the two incidents, but they were "not excluding any possibilities".

Remember the mainstream media tactics, they like to create a picture of a peodophile in our minds cos they know that is how the human mind stores information (I havent explained that very well :o)
So we have to keep an open mind at present and dont let the media shape our thinking as I'm sure I dont have to tell you or the majority of people on here. The police/media seem to like to spread rumours which keep us/parents in fear (and hatred).

The man has been named locally as Mick Donovan, formerly known as Paul Drake, and is understood to be a member of Shannon's extended family.
