Once upon a time in northern India, there lived a violent and fearsome outcast called Angulimala ('necklace of fingers'). He terrorised towns and villages in order to try to gain control of the state, murdering people and adding their fingers to his gruesome necklace. The Buddha set out to meet Angulimala, and with the power of love and compassion he persuaded him to renounce violence and take responsibility for his past actions. Thus Angulimala was transformed. The Buddha and The Terrorist brings a message for our time about the importance of looking for the root causes of violence, and of finding peaceful means to end terror. In the Prologue, called 'Talking to Terrorists', Satish Kumar discusses how we can best deal with the phenomenon of international terrorism.

I had read about the story, quite interesting. Finally Angulimala kneels before buddha
to obtain what is eternal, the creative. Worth re-reading many times.

Anguilimana(neckace of fingers) met Buddha. He shouted at Buddha: "stop! don't move!"
Buddha says " I stoped a long time ago. I am not moving,Angulimala, you are moving. There is no goal for me...
Buddha came closer and said, " I have heard that you need one more finger.
Angulimala said I thought i was the only madman around here...
Buddha says, before you kill me, do one thing---just the wish of a dying man---cut off the branch of this tree. Angulimala hit his sword against the tree and a big branch fell down.
Then Buddha said, "Just one more thing: join it again to the tree."
Angulimala said:" i can cut but I can not join."
Buddha said: "This branch can be cut by a child, but to join it a master is needed.
And if you cannot even join back a branch to a tree ,what about human heads"
Have you ever thought about it?"
Angulimala closed his eyes and he said: "Lead me on the path" And it is said that in a single moment he became enlightened.

A person who has the energy to become mad also has the energy to become
enlightened---it is the same energy, only the direction changed.
If you cannot be creative, energy becomes destructive.
