Today, one of my good friends channeled his energies into positive action and I just had to let you all know the story....

He got off the train as usual at Glasgow Central train station on his way to work. He noticed a stand being erected to promote Trident sugar free chewing gum. He emailed me in work to say that he was thinking of going back at lunchtime and handing out leaflets detailing the dangers of ASPARTAME. I found some good information on the web detailing the reported side effects and medical conditions caused by this substance.

he printed off roughly 100 'fact sheets' and went to Glasgow Central during his lunch hour, stood 15 feet from the stand, and as people went to get the free samples, he followed them and gave them a leaflet and spoke to them to give them a breif insight to what is contained in the gum, and almost all sugar free products.

After about 10 minutes, one of the promo reps came and asked him what he was playing at. He told them he was just passing on information. Then the heavies arrived and asked my friend to leave as he needed a permit to hand out leaflets in the station. My friend argued for a while and tried to make these guys see what he was trying to communicate. They were not receptive and radioed the transport police. At this point, some skater dudes approached my mate and asked what the problem was, could they be of any help (to my mate). After telling them what was going on, the wee guys took a handful of leaflets and split, handing them to everyone they passed!!!

My mate fled back to work with the remaining leaflets and handed them to people he passed on his way.

It may be a small act, but if 1 person realises that we aren't being told the full story on these sort of issues and looks into it a bit more then it has been worth it.

Just had to share that. :D :D :D

great work . that's excellent, as most people aren't ignorant through choice , mainly just the lack of information.

My friend has detailed the event correctly. I now need no further evidence that we are living in a fascist dictatorship. I'm glad I done what I did today, for once the feeling of impotant rage gave way to a feeling of empowerment. I may have only reached a small number of people but it was worth it. I was made to feel like a criminal by the heavies in the station, one of them in particular seemed to take great joy in attempting to intimidate me. Perhaps I shouldn't have retorted by calling him a fascist pawn but a little bit of anger got the better of me. Slightly ironic with the trident nuclear demos going on that I should choose to demonstrate against Trident chewing gum. The seemingly meaningless name's they use are all symbolic though I suppose, or am I looking too far into it ?
