The question is, if that has been there from the start, why has no one sheepishly apologised for the connotations to fascism, and said, hey lets remove this? (Also why is the US flag upside down here?)
What does this mean, that they were imitating Hitler and Mussolini?
Well no, it stems from Revolutionary days when the new US states and France adopted Roman symbology for their new states. The buildings and architecture, the design of the governmental systems, were all based on Roman ideals, as distinct to the British model.
The problem is that the US and Mussolinis Italy and Hitler's Germany have chosen the same roots for inspiration. Remember Rome was a masculine dominated society, that was also based on lack of freedom, military dominance, and slavery.
Not that the British were holier than thou, but British systems were based on Anglo Saxon Common law freedoms and was quite distinct and opposite to Roman law, based on inequality. The two have been in opposition for 2000 years. This could be why the French and US chose Rome, as a model to oppose Britain, THE NUMBER ONE enemy at the time.
Fascist symbology is everywhere in the US, relating to the founding of the nation;

It can also been seen all over France.
However, the question is why have Italy and Germany been purged of this symbolism and the US and France have chosen to keep it. In fact the US embraces it? Surely after the 2nd World War if the US population were more informed and educated thay may have said , look time for a change eh, can we choose a different symbol?
Fact is, no one notices.
The original meaning of the symbol is not really known, it is lost in mythology. But it has come to mean the marriage of worker and state; meaning that at one minute the citizen may be tending the field, the next he may be marching to war for his state. This is also the deeper meaning behind Nazism, the marriage of worker (socialism) and state (nationalism). The many rods are bound together in strength, symbolising the unity of the people; however the axe head reminds that they are ruled over by the state in a military unity.
Cmon, wake up America. Choose a different symbol! Do you realise the founding of your great nation, based on liberty, is from the same family as Rome, Napolean, Hitler and Mussolini? Military dominace and state power?
You wont find the Fasces in Britain. Not always true, but based on individual liberty and checks against the power of the state :eek:
