Sorry to hear this - I dont have any idea what effect one kidney would have!
Do you mind me asking why one needs removed?

oh lesley, have u tried evry other alternative to this? 2nd and third opinions?
I guess you have.
A kidney is a twin organ, meaning both, i am sure u know that already, since u have been thru so much.
I have only known one person with one kidney... means u cant drink alcohol , or so they said.
Have u read Louise Hay, ... I am not sure about her... but it is to do with relationships... meaning that you may not be in the relationship that is good for you.
OMgawd, having a kidney removed.. so they are gonna take out your kidney? that is bad for you... are they gonna sell it to a kidney person in another country?
This is a really serious issue.
i would say think once, twice , thrice... get heaps more info than just from a doc.... unless u already have.
I really hope some people come here and help you.
If I was in terrible pain I would probably take what 'the doctor ordered'
Have you tried other types of doctors?

Just been reading about a bloke who had a nephrectomy and went back to work roofing after a few months :) Short term, NO heavy lifting and plenty of walking. You'll certainly need a healthy diet and will need to increase your fibre intake to counteract...problems, but all that's probably stuff you would learn from the hospital or searching yourself.
Get well soon lesley :) Come back and let us know you're alright once you get home.

Cheers, basically it has been damaged by having a monster kidney stone, recurrent infections, more stones and operations to remove stones, it's function has dropped below a certain percentage. Basically it is useless but causing lots of pain and infections.

I am pretty sure my fella is a decent sort and he really looks after me :) I have had a couple of absolute shockers though, it really wouldn't suprise me if that was enough to make my kidney grow stones and go all septic!
I have tried quite a few things now and I am just really pissed off with getting ill from kidney infections all the time. Because of the damage and scar tissue they keep coming back and I have pain all the time now, not to mention more stones :(
I kind of freaked when the consultant phoned and advised that I might be better off getting it removed, but then I was only joking about that with someone a while back. I can't really drink alchohol any more as it gives me kidney infections - a little bit seems to be fine though ;)
It would be nice to get rid of he offending organ, but I have to say I am shitting me pants as I can remember the last serious op I had and that didn't go smoothly.
If they want to sell it they are welcome, I'll be glad to see the back of the horrible scabby thing! :D

Hehe, whoever buys it will be sorely disspointed :D I just want to make sure they remove the right one!

Speedy recovery! Well, I think your kidneys act as a filter for toxins, so it's important to be well-hydrated and eat as healthily as possible to maintain chemical balance and not give your remaining kidney extra work to do. Other than that, I have no clue. :)

Thanks for not telling me a horror story :) I have recently set myself up in business as a gardener, so it is a bummer that I will have to be incapacitated. But I am sure it will be fine, if I have built up customers once I can do it again and get back in to it like that guy did :)

Thanks AA, very sensible, this is what I was thinking, I guess I'll have to try and quit smoking for good, stop drinking caffeine, avoid salt and too much protein etc.

Cheers CC, I have read some of that, the thing is that some of your bits regenerate, like the liver, but kidneys don't. I shall have a good nose through it again chicky :)
I'm still waiting for miracle Leslie :)

ooh ooh, gotta say, dont avoid salt! There are diff types of salt!
domathy explains this very well.
Never have table salt.
I have now got Himalayan Salt. This is ancient salt from the mountains ( obviously) and he explains how genuine salt is good for you, very good, just dont have crap commercial salt, and even sea-salt is polluted..
Read his Salt thread.
lots of love and best wishes
check him out, dudesss!
evrybody loves you :);)
