Hi everyone,
My taste in music(as well as my view of the world) has changed dramatically recently.I am making this post to ask for your ideas on music I might want to check out and I think this might be useful to others as well. This is new to me so I can only contribute two artists.

-Bob Marley(no brainer) alot of his songs are even more relevent now than when he wrote them IMO

-Immortal technique

I hope many more of you can add to this list and introduce me(and others) to some great new music.Thanks.
Peace.

At the moment I'm listening to a band called Cog. These guys are huge supporters of David Icke and his work. I'm listening to a song I have on at the moment called Eject the Shells and it refers to the egshell of fear that most people live in and they have many other great songs as well. If your from the band and are cruising these boards (as I know you do) I would love to talk to you.

http://www.cog.com.au/ This is their website, check it out

PS I'm now listening to a song by them called Resonate, talking the vibrational change in consciousness that is happening at the moment. Pretty cool stuff for a rock song

Hi, I just received the newsletter of the shapeshifter in N. Carolina. This is the site www.visionarymusic.com

The new tracks are the 11:11 gateways and forthcoming DNA Activation II (in which I am interested). They are legit (as far as I can tell) and you can check out their music through samples they offer. See what resonates with you personally.

Have fun!

john mellenkamps latest album; neil young definitely. frank zappa (as the old saying goes, the best way to beat the devil is to laugh at him!).

if you're looking for "heart music" try Ke'a'ili Reichel. i thinks that's how the first name is spelled. Izzy, too. polynesian music really calms me down.

Being a songwriter/musician myself, I've noticed the CDs in my collection that I put on narrowing these days. I've got everything from Beatles, Crowded House/Neil Finn, U2, Neil Young, Calexico, Travis, Sex Pistols, Bic Runga, etc... I've always disliked anything fake or manufactured but now it's like even a lot of the stuff I liked doesn't quite do it for me anymore.

Recently, all I seem to feel like listening to is Bob Marley. I've been a fan for about 2 yrs but it's like his music just keeps growing in intensity. Like phenylamine said, it's even more relevant today. Also, Lee Perry's music has that conscious feel to it. In fact, I think a lot of roots reggae from the 70s gets to that truth.

John Lennon also. I've always loved his music but listening to songs like Mind Games and Love and Working Class Hero, not to mention All You Need Is Love has taken on a new meaning for me these days.

It's like once you've woken up yourself you start to recognise it in art and music. You instinctively seem to know when it's coming from that place. Although I wouldn't say the message is as strong or political in Neil Finn's music overall, I think in a few of his songs it's there. "Faster Than Light", "Anytime", "Disembodied Voices", "Edible Flowers", and so on seem to suggest a certain level of consciousness to me.

2pac -"Words Of Wisdom"

This is for the masses the lower classes
The ones you left out, jobs were givin', better livin'
But we were kept out
Made to feel inferior, but we're the superior
Break the chains in out brains that made us fear yah
Pledge a legiance to a flag that neglects us
Honour a man that who refuses to respect us
Emancipation, proclamation, Please!
Nigga just said that to save the nation
These are lies that we all accepted
Say no to drugs but the governments' keep it
Running through our community, killing the unity
The war on drugs is a war on you and me
And yet they say this is the Home of The Free
But if you ask me its all about hypocrisy
The constitution, Yo, it don't apply to me
Lady Liberty still the bitch lied to me
Steady strong nobody's gonna like what I pumpin'
But its wrong to keeping someone from learning something
So get up, its time to start nation building
I'm fed up, we gotta start teaching Chaldean
That they can be all that they wanna to be
There's much more to life than just poverty

This is definitely ahhh words of wisdom
AMERIKA, AMERIKA, AMERIKKKA
I charge you with the crime of rape, murder, and assault
For suppressing and punishing my people
I charge you with robbery for robbing me of my history
I charge you with false imprisonment for keeping me
Trapped in the projects
And the jury finds you guilty on all accounts
And you are to serve the consequences of your evil schemes
Prosecutor do you have any more evidence

Words of Wisdom
They shine upon the strength of an nation
Conquer the enemy on with education
Protect thy self, reach with what you wanna do
Know thy self, teach what we been through
On with the knowledge of the place, then
No one will ever oppress this race again
No Malcolm X in my history text
Why is that?
Cause he tried to educate and liberate all blacks
Why is Martin Luther King in my book each week?
He told blacks, if they get smacked, turn the other cheek
I don't get it, so many questions went through my mind
I get sweated, They act as if asking questions is a crime
But forget it, one day I'm gonna prove them wrong
Now every brother had to smother on the welfare line
The American dream, though it seems it attainable
They're pulling your sleeve, don't believe
Cause it will strangle yah
Pulling the life of your brain, I can't explain
Beg as you can obtain from which you came
Swear that your mother is living in equality
Forgetting your brother that's living her apology
Thought they had us beat when they took our kids
But the battle ain't over till the black man sings
Words of Wisdom
But the battle ain't over till the black man sings
Words of Wisdom

NIGHTMARE thats what I am
America's nightmare
I am what you made me
The hate and evil that you gave me
I shine of a reminder of what you have done to my people
for Four hundred plus years
You should be scared
You should be running
You should be trying to silence me
ha ha
But you can not escape fate
Well it is my turn to come
Just as you rose you shall fall
By my hands
Amerika, You reap what you sow
2pacalypse America's Nightmare
Ice Cube and Da Lench Mob America's Nightmare
Above the Law America's Nightmare
Paris America's Nightmare
Public Enemy America's Nightmare

I Love 2Pac, too and I have been listening to Asia, Ayumi Hamasaki and CHIC.
If you would like to meditate and need assistance to invoke OBEs, I suggest listening to soundtracks from Final Fantasy games and Chrono Cross game music is excellent. These game music soundtracks usually have over 40 tracks and most of them soothing and melodic.

It looks as though you're looking for music with lyrics. Well, I'm mostly interested in instrumental music, generally labelled "classical." So, if you're interested in some of that, here are a few faves:

1) Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915): definitely the most tripped out classical artist ever, though never touched a hallucinogen. Best orchestral recording is "Prometheus: Poem of Fire" recorded by Maazel (conductor) and Ashkenazy (pianist) with one of the London orchestras. The CD also has "The Poem of Ecstasy" (also awesome) and the Piano Concerto (good, but less awesome). Most of his music is for solo piano. Sonatas 5-10 are the best. Horowitz recorded 5, 9, and 10. There are 2 separate discs titled "Horowitz Plays Scriabin" and they're both outstanding. Ashkenazy and Laredo are my 2 favorite recordings of the entire set of 10. Hamelin also does a great job.

Here's the list of "influences" I have posted on my own music sites (I'm a pianist and composer):

Beethoven, Debussy, Takemitsu, Stravinsky, Classical Indian, Gamelan, Chopin, JS Bach, Bartók, Rachmaninoff, African folk music, Ween, Robin Williamson, Ministry, Rob Zombie, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Hendrix, Donovan, earlier RHCP, Jane's Addiction, Tom Waits, Beastie Boys, Beck, Cat Power, Cex, Kid606, Kool Keith, Dylan, Ives, Kyuss, Radiohead, Solex.

Not all necessarily "enlightened," but definitely kickin' ass!

Here's a clip of Horowitz playing Scriabin's "Vers la flamme" for piano solo to whet your appetite:

i dont know bout much pop music today...Or what one might consider enlightened music? but i love the more undergroundish beats and vibes, and if it sounds good and the lyrics dont totally suck then id say its enlightening

Boards of Canada
The Flashbulb,Aphex Twin
Squarepusher

Beck(early stuff up till and including Midnite Vultures),Talking Heads, The Cure, Radiohead, Bjork,
Nine Inch Nails

If you like b.marley theres always Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer ..

If you like good hip hop - People under the stairs, Dead Prez...

Old Funk like Marvin Gaye,Curtis Mayfield, Fela Kuti, Funkadelic, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis...

Shit my music tastes are so eclectic i could go on forever... Just dont buy into mainstream craps and youll be o.k.

The hemorrhoid (damn it took me a long time to find the right spelling for that!) chakra is the most powerful and least understood of them all. But musicians have a "6th sense" about its secrets. Thus, how we can perceive the true genius behind the aforementioned artists.

Yes, indeed. It is located in the 'inner leg of life', which is a reference to the ancient beegees God, 'Jeff of analantis'.

It allows us to be able to mystically read between the lines of some of the most powerful and complex lyrics in known history.

Such as this:

We are the cheeky girls,
We are the cheeky girls.

You are the cheeky boys,
You are the cheeky boys.

We are the cheeky girls,
We are the cheeky girls.

You are the cheeky boys,
You are the cheeky boys.

We are the cheeky girls,
We are the cheeky girls.

You are the cheeky boys,
You are the cheeky boys.

It's a gift from Allabba. Use it wisely, my friend, you are indeed very fortunate.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor
A Silver Mt. Zion
Subtle

Godspeed You! Black Empeoror and A Silver Mt. Zion are both incredible. 'BBF3' (GY!BE), 'East Hastings' (GY!BE) and 'American Motor Over Smoldered Field' (ASMS) all blew me away...

Immortal Technique is pretty damn amazing too. Easily the most articulate/intelligent/educated rapper I've ever heard. With lyrics like this, you can't go wrong:

Immortal Technique - Cause Of Death

[Verse 1]
You better watch what the fuck flies outta ya mouth
Or I'ma hijack a plane and fly it into your house
Burn your apartment with your family tied to the couch
And slit your throat, so when you scream, only blood comes out
I doubt that there could ever be...a more wicked MC
'Cuz AIDs infested child molesters aren't sicker than me
I see the world for what it is, beyond the white and the black
The way the government downplays historical facts
'Cuz the United States sponsored the rise of the 3rd Reich
Just like the CIA trained terrorists how to fight
Build bombs and sneak box cutters onto a flight
When I was a child, the Devil himself bought me a mic
But I refused the offer, 'cuz God sent me to strike
With skills unused like fallopian tubes on a dyke
My words'll expose George Bush and Bin Laden
As two separate parts of the same seven headed dragon
And you can't fathom the truth, so you don't hear me
You think illuminati's just a fuckin conspiracy theory?
That's why Conservative racists are all runnin' shit
And your phone is tapped by the Federal Government
So I'm jammin' frequencies in ya brain when you speak to me
Technique will rip a rapper to pieces indecently
Pack weapons illegally, because I'm never hesitant
Sniper scoping a commission controllin the president

[Hook]
Father, forgive them, for they don't know right from wrong
The truth will set you free, written down in this song
And the song has the Cause of Death written in code
The Word of God brought to life, that'll save ya soul..

Save ya soul motherfucker...save ya soul..

Yeah, yeah, yeah

[Verse 2]
I hacked the Pentagon for self-incriminating evidence
Of Republican manufactured white powder pestilence
Marines Corps. flat (?) vest, with the guns and ammo
Spittin' bars like a demon stuck inside a piano
Turn a Sambo into a soldier with just one line
Now here's the truth about the system that'll fuck up your mind
They gave Al Queda 6 billion dollars from 1989 to 1992
And now the last chapters of Revelations are coming true
And I know a lot of people find it hard to swallow this
Because subliminal bigotry makes you hate my politics
But you act like America wouldn't destroy two buildings
In a country that was sponsoring bombs dropped on our children
I was watching the Towers, and though I wasn't the closest
I saw them crumble to the Earth like they were full of explosives
And they thought nobody noticed the news report that they did
About the bombs planted on the George Washington bridge
Four Non-Arabs arrested during the emergency
And then it disappeared from the news permanently
They dubbed a tape of Osama, and they said it was proof
"Jealous of our freedom," I can't believe you bought that excuse
Rockin a motherfucking flag don't make you a hero
Word to Ground Zero
The Devil crept into Heaven, God overslept on the 7th
The New World Order was born on September 11

[Hook]

[Verse 3]
And just so Conservatives don't take it to heart
I don't think Bush did it, 'cuz he isn't that smart
He's just a stupid puppet taking orders on his cell phone
From the same people that sabotaged Senator Wellstone
The military industry got it poppin' and lockin'
Looking for a way to justify the Wolfowitz Doctrine
And as a matter of fact, Rumsfeld, now that I think back
Without 9/11, you couldn't have a war in Iraq
Or a Defense budget of world conquest proportions
Kill freedom of speech and revoke the right to abortions
Tax cut extortion, a blessing to the wealthy and wicked
But you still have to answer to the Armageddon you scripted
And Dick Cheney, you fuckin leech, tell them your plans
About building your pipelines through Afghanistan
And how Israeli troops trained the Taliban in Pakistan
You might have some house niggaz fooled, but I understand
Colonialism is sponsored by corporations
That's why Halliburton gets paid to rebuild nations
Tell me the truth, I don't scare into paralysis
I know the CIA saw Bin Laden on dialysis
In '98 when he was Top Ten for the FBI
Government ties is really why the Government lies
Read it yourself instead of asking the Government why
'Cuz then the Cause of Death will cause the propaganda to die..

Spacemen 3 - Revolution Lyrics

Well look out

Well I’m sick
I’m so sick
Of a lot of people
Tryin’ to tell me
What I can and can’t do
With my life

And I’m tired
I’m so tired
Of a lot of people
In a lot of high places
Don’t want you and me
To enjoy ourselves

Well I’m through with people
Who can’t get off their arse
To help themselves change this government
And better this society
‘Cos it’s shit

But hold on a second
I smell burning
And I see a change
Comin’ ‘round the bend
And I suggest to you
That it takes
Just five seconds
Just five seconds
Of decision
To realise
That the time
Is right
To start thinkin’ about
A little…
Revolution!
