Hi folks
Well I recently was really worried when I had blood in my stools. So I went to the local GP(General Practitioner, ie Doctor :p) and he made an appointment with a specialist whom I happened to have before when I had pilonidal sinus before. He said the the blood was probably caused by piles and asked me did I want to continue with a colonoscopy, which I said yes I would be happier to get it all checked out. Luckily for me I did because he found 4 polyps which he removed and sent away to get checked. And it turned out that the polyps were pre-malignant i.e. they would have turned into tumours in 6-12 months. But while he was removing the polyps he damaged one of the piles I had which was ok after the operation but after work the next day I jumped over the wall and felt something strange in my belly. Later that day I went out to my parents house for lunch and I felt like I had a dose of the runs, so I went to the bathroom and to my horror all I passed was pure red blood. So I told my dad to take me to the city Accident and emergency department, and he did and they admitted me straight away, but I was waiting on a trolley for ages and each time I went to the bathroom I was passing huge amounts of blood which I showed one of the doctors and they said " oh everything will be fine" . They eventually attached me to a drip which was fastened to the trolley so I could no longer go to the bathroom to release the blood, and after an hour or so I started to feel really dizzy and I tried to call a doctor but I collapsed unconscious. When I woke up I looked up and there was a team of doctors nurses and orderlys working on me trying to keep me from going into shock it was quite scary. I couldnt breathe until they put an oxygen mask on me. And one of the nurses was close to tears telling me " Everything was going to be all right" I was in the intensive care section of the ER for the night. The surgeon came in, in the morning to stop my bleeding. It was quite a scary experience. I was released from hospital after a few days , which felt like a few months to be honest. And I had to take a few weeks off work until my haemoglobin levels returned to close to normal. My haemoglobin levels dropped from 14 to 8. Shows how much blood I lost. But last blood test I was up to 12, so I am well on the road to recovery. But I will have to be screened again in 8 months, but at least I can say I am the luckiest man alive to have piles :D
