Who here likes reptiles, or has them as pets? Do you think this has something to do with getting in touch with your reptilian side, or maybe your general frequency attracts you to these animals?

I don't have them as pets or perticularly like them and it's interesting that there are those who do.

Posted this in the wrong section, sorry moderators, hope it'll get moved eventually.

I don't mind turtles, but they still creep me out a bit.

I like turtles!

But seriously, we have a pet box turtle in our home. I find him absolutely fascinating to watch (when he's not buried in the dirt--lol) He loves to eat fresh fruit, but we also have turtle food to feed him.

He's really sweet. My daughter named him Squirt after the turtle on "Finding Nemo."

I have had a boa constrictor and 2 pythons. They are cool and often unaffectionate ofcourse, but they chilled 24/7 and I liked that. I fathom they must be heavy dreamers, just like everybody else.

"They are chilled" is a new perspective for me, very interesting thanks.

That's why I asked the question, it gives me a better insight.

Turtles don't really count I suppose, they're not like snakes or goanas, they don't even have verticle pupils and that, and turtles, are interesting in themselves. In fact, I heard that there's still some dispute wether they're cold or warm blooded? I should check up on that.

My daughter had a Leopard Gecko once. It was a pretty little thing but quite hard to keep. It could only feed on live insects such as crickets and other type of grubs. So not only did it take a lot of time and effort to look after, we also had to look after the crickets too. They were sometimes noisey but I quite liked listening to them. We called it Bella Sinead, even though we didn't know the sex of the animal. It just had a really sweet face.

We have lots of different types of animal such as dogs, cats, cockateils and even pigeons. So, we got the little gecko because we wanted to keep a different type of pet. It ended up getting a tumour on its chin and it cost a fortune to have it treated by the vet and eventually died. I wouldn't get another one though.

Turtles are cold blooded (I am speaking of land turtles, specifically, the box turtle). When we got our pet turtle, we read about them to see how to care for them. We had no clue how to care for a turtle.

In the wild, they hibernate during the winter by digging themselves a hole in the ground. When the weather gets warmer, they become active and come out to play--lol.

When kept indoors, they don't hibernate, but they do bury for days at a time.

Anyway, I am really enjoying having him around.

I have noticed that, too. Just the other day, I was pomdering about turtle eyes and I thought about how friendly they seem. Turtles are very responsive.

You know what, I don't think I've ever seen a cat with a snake before, have your camera ready:D Sounds like an idea for a cartoon.

So why are you thinking of getting one? Just a neutral question, same to lookfar:)

You are right about that. I talk to our turtle, and he will cock his head and look up at me and knows that I am talking to him. He has a sweet turtle face--lol.

We used to have a lodger when i was small and he had tanks in his room from ceiling to floor with snakes, and a large shower cubicle sized viv with the fattest hugest pythons ever, and i used to love them back then - i was always encouraged to handle them, so never been scared of them, but hadnt touched one since till the other week when i was with Nic and we were at the snakes 'temporary home' she gave me one to hold so i took him and he was curled around my arm in no time, so friendly, serene creatures, and i also liked the feeling when he tightened around my arm, the element of risk that he might squeeze my arm to death and it'll fall off!!!! LOL!!! (is that perverted? lmao :D) but yeah loved the feeling of his skin against mine- very soft and cold but warm- unusual i suppose, not like a cat is it?!! lol!! anyway i fell in love with him, and so i have claimed rights to him lol!! :D

Similar behaviour to the sea-f-twentyfourus, a sneaky creature....they lay in wait and just when you think they're behaving themselves BAM! they stab their figer into an unsuspecting fire-alarm glass, you've had it- you're only antidote is to run as fast as you can away from the ringing building, sneaky little bastard!!!!! :p

I have owned:

Watersnakes, Iguanas, Turtles, Gekos, Salamanders... A few friends of mine have owned rattlers and copperheads. I consider myself a reptile-lover.

Small reptiles (up to about 1 metre) are WAY cool, and we have a number of different species live on and round our properties (the orchard and at home)... some snakes too, and of course the tiny ghekos that live in our house with us.....I'm just not a fan of the LARGE reptiles...the man-eater-types like crocodiles and would not want to share the same environment as creatures that big!

My girlfriend likes my pet trouser snake.

Seriously, though, my brother had a pet iguana when I was a child. It would lie on my chest and take naps.

Look! How cute!
