Wildmen stories are found among the indigenous population of the Pacific Northwest. The legends existed prior to a single name for the creature.[14] They differed in their details both regionally and between families in the same community. Similar stories of wildmen are found on every continent except Antarctica.[14] Ecologist Robert Michael Pyle argues that most cultures have human-like giants in their folk history: "We have this need for some larger-than-life creature."[15]
Members of the Lummi tell tales about Ts'emekwes, the local version of Bigfoot. The stories are similar to each other in terms of the general descriptions of Ts'emekwes, but details about the creature's diet and activities differed between the stories of different families.[16]
Some regional versions contained more nefarious creatures. The stiyaha or kwi-kwiyai were a nocturnal race that children were told not to say the names of lest the monsters hear and come to carry off a person—sometimes to be killed.[17] In 1847, Paul Kane reported stories by the native people about skoocooms: a race of cannibalistic wild men living on the peak of Mount St. Helens.[11] The skoocooms appear to have been regarded as supernatural, rather than natural.[11]
Less menacing versions such as the one recorded by Reverend Elkanah Walker exist. In 1840, Walker, a Protestant missionary, recorded stories of giants among the Native Americans living in Spokane, Washington. The Indians claimed that these giants lived on and around the peaks of nearby mountains and stole salmon from the fishermen's nets.[18]
The local legends were combined together by J. W. Burns in a series of Canadian newspaper articles in the 1920s. Each language had its own name for the local version.[19] Many names meant something along the lines of "wild man" or "hairy man" although other names described common actions it was said to perform (e.g. eating clams).[20] Burns coined the term Sasquatch, which is from the Halkomelem sásq’ets (IPA: [ˈsæsqʼəts]),[21] and used it in his articles to describe a hypothetical single type of creature reflected in these various stories

The evidence that bigfoot exists would fill a small library...
but for the best evidence read Everything You Know is Wrong by Loyd Pye..
especially the chapter called The Alma.

I dont know anything about big foot, but I do have the ability to "see through" people! I was bored the other night and trawling web, I stumbled across the clip expecting him to be a fraud, what I found was in that particular clip there was no deception in the boy, he was speaking the truth, him and his friends found something.
The fact no corpse could then be produced and the dodgy pictures came out I dont understand.... Maybe someone has an explanation?

To the OP, the Patterson film is pretty compelling evidence. The musculature in the leg, and the swinging breasts are enough to convince me that the creature he caught on film is real. Plus the way it turns it's whole upper body to look rather than just it's neck -- very apelike, but at the same time not an ape in the conventional sense.

Some people claim it's a hoax, even the man who was with Patterson said it was, but then recanted by saying he only claimed hoax so people would stop harrassing him and Patterson's family.
The hunters from Georgia who tried to pull that hoax were .... from Georgia. Hyuk, Hyuk..... badly conceived plan.

Badly concieved plan, or smoothly exectuted character assassination! The boys probably sold out for large amounts of cash.
What if they did stumble accross something and then a huge (quite unbelievable hoax creation) was swiftly put into play, boys got cash, they dont care etc etc etc.
I am not saying it could have been big foot, but what if they found something else?
The first clip of the guy speaking looks like he is recalling from memory... not creation???
What ya think?

I don't know, interesting question.... someone seizing the actual corpse and paying for their silence? If I remember correctly, they wanted cash up front before they showed the corpse to anyone, big press conference and all that. They seemed to be angling from the get go.
The thing is, wild animals are very strange in the sense that the carcasses of animals who have died naturally in the wild are never, or rarely ever found. So for one of the first of these findings to be a sasquatch would be quire phenomenal.

Yeh, I would want cash up front aswell if I knew I had something special I dicovered, maybe they were not that stupid after all. (not me personally but if I were of different mentality, you know what I mean) Anyway, its a good mind bender isnt it!!

My left foot is slightly larger than my right when I'm......ahh never mind. Heck, they've been seen so much here in the lower 48, that they've got clubs that do nothing but chase em around.:o
But If you want to see a real bigfoot, sasquatch, yeti, cryptozoid or whatever etc. try a vacation to the Solomon Islands, where they actually rule. I've read that they're thick as flies down there and might even make a meal out of ya.:D
