Today (13.12) people in my country celebrate Saint Lucia with young girls dressed in white going in a line singing with lighted candles.
Is it just me or is it something freaky about the whole thing?
I kinda think of Satan Lucifer the "lightbringer" and the sacrifice of young innocent girls every time this day comes up.
Maybe I am a bit paranoid here...
Could someone explain about this event (I know the official explaination)?
Thx in advance :)
God Joul ! :D
(We dont celebrate "Joul" (christmas). We drink Joul! - The Vikings (792-1050))

Hello Thotstar!
I am also Swedish and has also wonderd many time why we celebrate Lucia!
The story goes that this Lucia girl was a girl from sicily( there might be many mor stories about this , but this is the one I have heard),she fell head over heal in love with a man that was not of her kind. She could not have the relationship she wanted with him due to the custom. So she removed her eyes and said that she no longer had no use of them since she could not have the man she loved , she did not want to see mor beaty. Something like that anyway. So that is the reason we celebrate Lucia. It is then strange that we call it the day of Light. We should call it the day of sorrow.

With this story I draw the conclusion that this was a story written by the Vatican ,hence it was based in Sicily. The Vatican founded the Christianity and Lucia is part of the Christmas tradition in Sweden .The Christmas tradition is a Christian tradition rite. This is just another ritual to keep humans in its mindcontrol state.
This is my conclusion of the Lucia ritual.

I'm Swedish too. Well first of all, it's Saint Lucia (Sankta Lucia in Swedish) and not Santa. Well yes Lucia and Lucifer comes from the same word and is associated with "bringing light". And yes the original tale of Lucia was about a young Christian girl how became a martyr when she was burned at the stake in Sicily as a heretic, because she had healed her mother with her faith. But probarbly Lucia, a common Italian name, was simply her name and there is no "conspiracy" here. And because she brought "light" (good light) to the world, this could be the reason why the Swedish Lucia has a crown of lightened candles on her head.
I myself think that the Swedish Lucia tradition is lovely with all the carols, but we all have different opinions.

Hej hej,
I have been told that "Lucia" used to be a pagan ritual celebrating the light on the darkest night of the year and that the Church then turned it into a Christian thing.

The same thing happened to our "Julblot" - a ritual involving human and animal sacrifice that became Christmas...

I think there is some confusion here. Lucifer is the bearer of light. It is Lucifuge who shuns the light. Lucia may originate from the Latin word for light, Lux.
How can anybody turn the word saint into satan? the origins are completely different. Are people trying to make something ugly out of a religious celebration?
Young girls in white at a festival of the saint of light. Doesn't sound very wierd to me. This is obvioulsy meant to symbolise purity. If people are seeing wierd and sick things going on then I think that what is really happening is they have an issue with part of their own being.
