I read somewhere (cant remember exactly) that certain army units in Europe Russia and America were trained in survival cannibalism techniques. If a Black ops guy was behind enemy lines and low on energy and protein then the option of the day was longpig. I know there was a manual on on field butchery of farm animals for US special forces. This type of survival cannibalism was/is common amongst African militas.
Can anyone provide more info on this?

Long Pig is a Polynesian term for human flesh, specifically in reference towards cannibalism
The japanese did eat prisoners in WW2.
" I saw this from behind a tree and watched some of the Japanese cut flesh from his arms, legs, hips, buttocks and carry it off to their quarters... They cut it [into] small pieces and fried it."

There has been alot of cannibalism in Japan.

You may eventually find what you're looking for by first starting with Benthams' doctrine of Utilitarianism. (Utilitarianism can be characterised as a quantitative and reductionist approach to ethics.)
This little fellow may help you out in your quest for knowledge:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00y5jfd
In the second in a series of lectures drawn from Harvard professor Michael Sandel's famous undergraduate course on justice, he introduces the British utilitarian philosopher Jeremy Bentham, with reference to an infamous 19th century legal case from Victorian England - the shipwreck of the Mignonette.
After nineteen days lost at sea, the ship's captain decided to kill the weakest amongst the survivors - the young cabin boy - so that the rest could feed on his blood and body. The case sets up a classroom debate about the moral validity of utilitarianism and its doctrine of the right thing to do being whatever produces the greatest good for the greatest number.

I dont get the bit about there being a manual
You get physical shown and actually butcher animals ie goats.
Once you have done one...nothing really changes except the size of the animal in question.....
But yanks being yanks there probably is a step by step guide on how to BBQ the animal after....
As for eating human flesh...to be in a situation like tha to start with must be a shitter....but it seems the general consensus is small slivers ......maybe the problem is mental and stomaching such a meal .

Heres the thing; We are heading for a global food shortage. And the military wants to maintain its chain of command. So when food stock runs low, how will the troops be kept fed?
Now in north Korea at the moment there is famine. And there was quiet reports from spooks that the army in north Korea was engaging in the practice. In the scheme of thing C.O's will have a specific command that if there is no way to commandeer food supplies, then the order will go out to get someone snatched off the street and get chef to cook up longpig bolognese.
Chna has low rice supplies. Russia has low wheat supplies. Australia has had its total wheat harvest written off. Bee population globally has fallen by 33%. So do the math. We are going to see survival cannibalism enegaged in on a global scale.

I'm reminded of a thought-provoking tale...
There are two explorers in the jungle, when both encounter a tiger in their path. The tiger looks pretty mean and he quickly looks them up and down; indicating in no uncertain terms that it's lunchtime.
Upon recognising the seriousness of their situation, one of the explorers reaches into his backpack and pulls out a pair of Nike trainers. The other explorer looks at his friend and exclaims, "...what do you think you're doing? You can't outrun a tiger!"
Nonetheless the first explorer slips on his trainers, and once he's laced them up to his satisfaction, he turns to his friend saying, "...I don't need to outrun the tiger stupid - just YOU!!!"
:D

Never heard of that. I have a copy of the US field survival manual and it doesnt say anything. FM 21/76 if I recall it correctly.
Civilians in extreme conditions have eaten their dead, like when that plane crashed in the Andes and the survivors ate their dead friends.
I had a copy of Sniper on the Eastern Front and the Austrian author related a story of how they took some caves from the Russians to find that the Russian officers had ordered the eating of some conscripts to supplement their rations.
