I dont mean to be controversial but i feel this is important.

When did our collective military forces stop being a protector of civilisation and their respective populations and become a debt collector for private interests?

Its quite obvious that the American armed forces have been an extension of big business for decades. But when did that happen to the British and Commonwealth forces?

Was it Afghanistan?

Was it Iraq?

Was it the Kuwait war?

Was it the Falklands to protect the supposed oil deposits that never materialised?

Can anyone on here pinpoint the historical moment that shows our armed forces became a private business interest?

I have heard it said that in Australia WW1 was financed by a loan charged at 1/4% interest by our (then public) Commonwealth Bank and was paid back very quickly. This angered the other (private) banks who manouvered, by lobbying the Government to have this bank managed by a board of directors, rather than one director. This Board of Directors not only managed to ensure that WW2 was not financed by the Commonwealth Bank but that the loans issued were at a more 'profitable rate'.

I don't have all the details but this is my understanding.
