A man armed with a rifle has killed eight people at a busy US department store before taking his own life.

The attack in an Omaha, Nebraska, shopping mall on Wednesday sent shoppers running and screaming for cover.

Five other people were wounded in the shooting, two of them critically.

Witnesses said the shooter had fired down on shoppers from a third-floor balcony of the Von Maur store.

"Everybody was scared, and we didn't know what was going on,"

Belene Esaw-Kagbara, a Von Maur employee, told the Associated Press.

"We didn't know what to do. I was praying that God protect us."

Belene Esaw-Kagbara, Von Maur store employee
Shopper Jennifer Kramer, who was in the mall when the shooting started, told local KETV that she and her mother hid in a clothes rack until police told them it was safe to leave.

"We were hiding in a clothes rack and that's when I called 911. But we were just waiting for the police to come to tell us we could go because we didn't know if the guy was dead or if he was still walking around shooting," she said.

George Bush, the US president, was in Omaha on Wednesday on a fundraising visit for his Republican party, but left the city about an hour before the shooting.

Police have named the gunman in Wednesday's shootings as Robert A. Hawkins, age 19 or 20.

They said he left a suicide note that was found at his home by relatives.

One woman who had known Hawkins in the days before the shooting said he had recently been fired from his job at a nearby McDonald's and had broken up with his girlfriend.

Local television reports said the man wrote in the note that he wanted to "go out in style."

Gun ownership is widespread in the US with an estimated 200 million guns in circulation among a population of about 300 million. A survey in 2001 found about 39 per cent of all American households own at least one gun.

The issue of gun control and the constitutional right to bear arms is hotly debated.

Wednesday's attack was the second mass shooting at a US mall this year. In February, nine people were shot, five of them fatally, at Trolley Square mall in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Recent US shootings

March 2005: A 16-year-old high school student kills five students, a teacher and a security guard at a school in Minnesota before killing himself.

October 2006: Five girls killed and five others injured after being taken hostage at an Amish school in Pennsylvania. Gunman Charles Carl Roberts kills himself.

February 2007: Gunman at Trolley Square mall in Salt Lake City kills five and wounds four before being shot dead by police.

In April a Korean-born student shot 32 people before killing himself at Virginia Tech university in the worst mass shooting in recent US history.

Hmm, very suspicious. Seems like more than just a co-incidence that George Bush just happened to be in the same city an hour before the shooting. Especially considering how big the US is, not to mention the blatant agenda to put into place strict gun control laws...

Found some more info about this from Sorcha Faal (I know not the most reliable but hey...)

FSB reports circulating in the Kremlin this morning are detailing a shocking gun battle that took place in the United States between American Secret Service Agents and an ‘unknown’ number of what are believed to be 3 ‘highly trained, military type’ sniper units in a suburban mall in Omaha, Nebraska.

According to these reports, President Bush, and who was summoned by America’s Top Military Leaders to the US Strategic Command Headquarters, located at Offutt Air Force Base, was using as a ‘cover story’ for his unannounced visit to Omaha a fund raising campaign for his former agriculture secretary, Mike Johanns, who is now a US Senate candidate in Nebraska.

President Bush, as these reports further state, was, prior to his leaving Omaha, to provide to the US propaganda media outlets what is called a ‘photo-op’ showing him Christmas shopping at a mid priced to luxury goods store named Von Maur and which was located in the Westroads Mall.

As with FSB forces protecting President Putin, the American President is, likewise, protected by an elite security force called the Secret Service, and who, these reports continue, do prior security screening of all locations to be visited by those US government officials they are assigned to protect.

Upon the US Secret Service units entering into the Westroads Mall, and prior to the American President’s intended photo-op, FSB reports detail a ‘chaotic’ series of radio transmissions that, seemingly, detail a ‘furious’ gun battle between what can only be described as US Forces firing on US Forces, and which, according to Western media information, has left 9 people dead.

US propaganda media sources, however, are reporting this event as a random shooting by a ‘lone gunman’, though their complete story is still not complete and, as always, is subject to change.

Most curious, though, of the Western media reporting on this event is the saturation coverage describing in detail that this supposed ‘lone gunman’, and prior to shooting his victims, first targeted a child’s toy called a Teddy Bear, and as we can read:

"Witnesses said the gunman fired down on shoppers from a third-floor balcony of the Von Maur store. One witness told a TV station that he shot up a teddy bear as he sprayed fire on shoppers."

This is important to note due to the, seemingly, odd coincidence that the word ‘Teddy Bear’ was an early Cold War term used by the United States Strategic Air Command B-52 pilots to designate the United States being on their highest alert status, DEFCON 1, and which meant:

"This refers to maximum readiness. It is not certain whether this has ever been used, but it is reserved for imminent or ongoing attack on US military forces or US territory by a foreign military power."

As we had previously detailed in our December 4th report, "Israel In Peril As Renegade US Military Leaders Sign Treaty With Iran", it is indeed probable that the United States has, indeed, been reduced to a childlike state needing the comforting assurance that ‘all will be right’ as long as their Teddy Bear is safely bundled beside them as they sleep.

Subject: Sorcha Faal report on Bush in Omaha, Nebraska yesterday

Dear Mr. Bellringer,

I live here in Omaha.

I can tell you that Sorcha\'s report is full of mis-information.

Bush was done with business and on his plane when the lone young man was doing the shooting at the Westroads Mall, which is about 5 miles across town in Omaha where Mr. Bush was located from 0900 hrs when his plane landed until take-off time.

Police arrived the scene about two minutes after the young man did all his shooting of people. He killed 8 others, injured 5 more and then supposedly took his own life.

Lots of eye witnesses telling their story on local TV news channels, all three TV channels here in Omaha. None of stories tell anything like the report from Russia as listed in Sorcha\'s article.

Sorry, but this story has lots of mis-information.

Also, Mr Bush and his group were never at Offutt yesterday. He conducted his first speech at the airport for about 5 minutes, then at the Stockyards Building area around 32nd Street and \"L\" street. From there he went for the noon gathering for the State Senator\'s luncheon and then back to Eppley Airport where his Air Force One plane was waiting.

thanks

DO

Ah well, best have the truth eh?;)
