I have a retired aged friend who has been into all kinds of esoteric stuff all her life and she knew about this over 40 years ago. I disagree though it was noted by those who wrote the bible that astrological movement correlated to that of the physcho-spiritual transformation of Man.

Astrologically, the Sun decends in the northern hemisphere towards the Earth in winter and then Ascends towards the Heavens as we move away from winter. The Sun brings life that man is saved from the deep sleep or death of winter, as does the psycho-spiritual transformation of man save him from his waking sleep through recognition of what he truly is in relation to that which gives him eternal life.

Indeed, yet thats only part of it as well as it only takes into account the astrological significance(the Sun -Son- rising and bringing life from Dec 25 though Virgo -the Virgin- etc.) which was noted by the mystics of the time to be concordant with psycho-spiritual tranformation experience which takes place within Man and was then used as a personification of said experience. Obviously this is also directy tied in with the symbolism used as the crucifixion & resurrection as it pertains to astronomical phenomena as seen from the northern hemisphere. Jesus wasn't one Man, he symbolises many Men who went through the same experience and hence the slight differences reported.

The funny thing about all that(astrology) is that people generally look at astrology as showing them where their headed(probably because of the wording "passing though" etc) or whats going to happen when in actuality its a present state reflection of their consciousness which can be transcended or changed.

The ancient world didn't all have the same signs. Egypt had no zodiac until the Babylonians introduced it in 6th century BC.

This debate comes up every so often i remember seeing a bbc documentary about it in the 80,s .An astrologer went to witness a solar eclipse expectingto see their constallation when it occured , but the sun was in the previous one
when it happened ! some believed it changed things others that it was down to the earths wobble :p from our viewpoint only .In astrology you have a chart not just the placement of the sun which only makes up a small fragmnet of your chart .The position of the moon mercury mars etc all contribute as well as the positions each sign or planet fall in the designated houses of the zodiac chart including the Rising sign ,the zodiac sign on the horizon at time of birth .So to base your personality on the area the sun occupied when you were born as a basis for belief falls short by a long way . The documentary was voiced by peter davidson one time Dr Who i recal . Also on the subject of official astrology , Pluto was demoted from planetary status some time back so i dont know where that leaves scorpio,s ,mars being its ancient ruler .:D

I dont see why the actual constellations matter. In astrology the signs each occupy 30 degrees yet the constellations are not of equal size and proportion. Also, where are the lines drawn between one area of space and another?

Recently I was reading an astrology book by the Parkers and their explanation was that the actual stars are not important. What is important is the position of the planets in relation to the earth. The actual sky is then divided into segment of 30 degrees and in the old days they were marked by consellations for ease of reference, although the procession of the equinoxes means that the actual star signs dont even align to the constellations nowadays. I think part of the reason may be that calculations are easier to make on 12 divisions as 13 would mean that the number crunching would be a little more difficult.

Another problem with the 13 house system is that it throws other aspects out, such as the 36 decans.
