Good Morning!
This is a subject I've done some reading on, and I find it so fascinating! It's a unsolved mystery in the form of a book called the Voynich Manuscript. It's written in a language nobody understands (or so they say). Many people have studied it and concluded that it is a real language, especially since it conforms to Zipf's Law (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zipf's_law). It has illustrations of plants, people and my favorite is of what appears to be galaxies.

So, I'm interested to know if anyone here has any opinions. Here are some of my fave pics from the Voynich MS, along with some links.

A thorough discussion about the manuscript, including history, research conclusions and additional links. (http://www.voynich.nu/index.html)

The fact that this manuscript belongs to Yale is an interesting point also, and also that some of it is mysteriously missing. Hmm!:rolleyes:

Have fun ye mystery lovers! :D

Hi tinmenace, do you have any recommended books on the subject, after 5 minutes of reading up on this it looks fascinating, i prefer to read books rather than go through internet pages although i will read your links with great interest. Thanks in advance.

i've heard of this before, i read somewhere that it was proven to be a hoax, but then again it could have been one of james randi's books, i have one or two lying around the house, and everything is a fake according to him.
i'll have a look in some of my books at home though, it's pretty damn interesting.

Yes, this is a fascinating subject. I've puzzled over this too.

I'm convinced it is a real book and I think it's an artifact from an
"underworld" society.

I think I read somewhere that the language can't be a proper language because of multiple repeating of the same word or something , its a very weird thing and I don't know what it is. Someone suggested it was a 16th century attempt to forge a medieval manuscript by 12th century alchemist Francis Bacon , who wrote his works in code.

In 1935 Zipf described a number of relationships in texts that he suggested were due to a "principle of least effort" in the use of language. He showed that in normal writing the frequency of a particular word is inversely proportional to its rank, once all the words have been sorted by decreasing frequency. Secondly that the number of infrequent words is inversely proportional to their frequency and finally that the number of syllables is inversely proportional to the frequency of use of a word. The first (and most important) characteristic is present in the Voynich manuscript text, as shown in Figure 3. The first Zipf law is represented by a straight line with a slope of -1. The characteristic small deviation from this line found in natural languages is also observed for the Voynich manuscript language.

Figure 3. A rank-frequency (Zipf's plot) of several texts: voynich (Friedman's first study group transcription), roget (Roget's Thesaurus), republic (Plato's Republic), Emma (Jane Austen), Alice (Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll). Note that all, (except the Roget's Thesaurus which is a collection of very short definitions and cross referenced words) follow the same trend of a slope of -1 in the log-log plot. There are 2 more Zipf's "laws" which were also found in the Voynich manuscript (available at: http://web.bham.ac.uk/G.Landini/evmt/zipf.htm ).

http://www.globalfailure.com/images/voynichzipf.jpg

Conclusion

It is possible that, if deciphered, the manuscript would reveal no more than the knowledge found in other mediaeval herbals and alchemy books. However, if the document is real it means that at least the people involved in the writing were able to read it. The fact that it still remains unread is quite unique and a challenge in cryptological terms. What was the method of encoding? What is the original underlying language ? Who wrote it? Why? It would also be interesting to know what kind of knowledge required such an amount of secrecy at the time of writing. It could even contain a subject completely unrelated to the drawings...

In any case, if a "readable" text is produced after some processing of the manuscript text, how can one be sure that the solution is correct? Could any of the solutions which have been announced be correct? On which basis to accept or reject a proposed a solution is quite a problem because there is no date, author, country or language associated with the manuscript. We will assume that:

1. there is a meaningful text underlying the writing in the Voynich manuscript
2. the language is a known one or closely related to a known one, and
3. the text is encoded using a reversible method.

Without all of these being true, there seems to be no possibility of finding a solution.

No solution which fails to present a detailed description of how the "encoding" was done by the writer(s) of the manuscript can be accepted, and this is where most of the proposed solutions fail. It is also clear that neither the method of encoding nor the contents of the decoded text may conflict with the context of a manuscript written in medieval Europe (or elsewhere by a medieval European). Finally, the solution should clearly explain the many odd statistical properties found in the manuscript text, which could not be fully described here, but which may be found in the literature on the subject (Tiltman, 1967; Currier, 1976; D'Imperio, 1978).

It seems paradoxical that at the time of rising concerns about the public use of "uncrackable" security codes, a medieval manuscript probably cannot be read. Let's hope that it is not for too long.

Yay! Finally some interest in this topic. I didn't think I would ever get a response. Nice. Thanks everyone, especially Phoenix for resurrecting the thread.

The manuscript conforms to Zipf's Law, and this is the one thing that keeps me believing that it is a real language. If it is a hoax, it's quite an elaborate one, considering it behaves like an actual language, which then begs the question of "WHY?".

Why would someone(s) construct such an elaborate hoax?

Also, you'll notice the first picture in my original post could be described as the Milky Way, and if I'm not mistaken the manuscript predates the first description of the Milky Way.

This from David's book The Biggest Secret
(http://www.davidickebooks.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=12)

One of his haunts was Bohemia and he was closely associated with Emperor Rudolf II of the reptilian Habsburg dynasty, another occultist. John Dee was among the influential voices who were orchestrating a policy of British expansionism which became the British Empire. While in Prague, Dee gave Emperor Rudolph an illustrated manuscript written in code and claimed to be the work of Roger Bacon (Roger, not Francis), the 13th century Franciscan monk who upset the church authorities with his views and ideas. These included prophecies about the microscope, telescope, car, submarine, aeroplane and the belief that the Earth was a sphere and not flat.

In 1912, this same manuscript was bought by an American book dealer called Wilfred Voynich and became known as the Voynich Manuscript. When he sent copies to the experts of the day, they said that most of the hundreds of plants illustrated did not grow on this planet. Some of the illustrations looked like tissue seen under a microscope and others were of star systems and constellations. The best code breakers available to United States Intelligence in both the First and Second World Wars tried to decipher what they called: “the most mysterious manuscript in the world”, but none of them could do it. William Romaine Newbold, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, claimed to have decoded some of it in 1921. He said that part of the text read:

“In a concave mirror, I saw a star in the form of a snail between the navel of Pegasus, the girdle of Andromeda, and the head of Cassiopeia.”

What is described in the manuscript acquired by Dr John Dee is now known to be accurate and the illustration it contains of the Andromeda nebula is also correct, but it is depicted from an angle which cannot be seen from Earth! This manuscript is just one example of the level of knowledge the Brotherhood were working with hundreds of years ago while their other wing, the religions, were keeping the masses in the most basic ignorance.

A book about Dr. John Dee, called The Queen's Conjurer is featured in the Freemasonry Today Magazine (http://www.freemasonrytoday.com/public/index-21.php)

http://www.globalfailure.com/images/queensconjurer.jpg
Freemason Thread (http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4934)

The Queen is none other than Elizabeth I, the virgin queen after whom the state of Virgin-ia (http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3234) was named.

Dr. John Dee was an intensely pious Christian, but his Christianity was deeply influenced by the Hermetic and Platonic-Pythagorean doctrines that were pervasive in the Renaissance. He believed that number was the basis of all things and the key to knowledge, that God's creation was an act of numbering. From Hermeticism, he drew the belief that man had the potential for divine power, and he believed this divine power could be exercised through mathematics. His cabalistic angel magic (which was heavily numerological) and his work on practical mathematics (navigation, for example) were simply the exalted and mundane ends of the same spectrum, not the antithetical activities many would see them as today. His ultimate goal was to help bring forth a unified world religion through the healing of the breach of the Catholic and Protestant churches and the recapture of the pure theology of the ancients.

I've been looking at the manuscripts again, and there seems to be an awful lot of women, with what looks like crowns on their heads, "riding" in some kind of personal craft. Some look a little tube like, and some have what looks like jet engines at the bottom of the craft.

This image is from THIS PAGE (http://www.voynich.com/folios/f82v.jpg). What do you think? Could it be a personal craft?

Instead of fertility rituals, I see it rather like a human-alien interaction, women (more or less) abducted and returning pregnant on Earth. Besides, theres also the Pisces constellation and around it what it seems to be the other signs of the zodiac or rather another kind of zodiac. The position of the constellation suggests some major role in a process as well.

If it obeys Zipfs Law then it's a real language. Dolphin and whale song also obeys this law.

It can't be decoded by the best modern computers, so it's not simply plain English or another common tongue under a cypher. I wonder if we'll ever decipher it. It may well be an extinct language from the Middle Ages. 3/4 of the world's languages have died out since the start of the 18th Century so it's definitely possible.

In addition to Pisces, there seem to be others that look like symbols we connect with other astrology signs. Take a look...

Yes, it's a real language, and it's interesting how it has brotherhood connection.

The Brotherhood are obsessed with cyphers and obscure tongues.

It could be a made-up language, like Tolkien's Elvish. The book has an alchemical theme and many occult, alchemist used to write in invented languages. John Dee did with his Enochian.

by Leo Levitov (Paperback - August 1987)

Described as the most studied and most mysterious manuscript in the world, hundreds of scholars have attacked the Voynich manuscript. Dr. Levitov tells how he broke the text, including his discovery of the word ISIS, a pattern-word. A transliteration of the script symbols is provided.

Dr. Leo Levitov, author of Solution of the Voynich Manuscript, presents the thesis that the Voynich is nothing less then the only surviving primary document of the " Great Heresy" that arose in Italy and flourished in Languedoc until ruthlessly exterminated by the Albigensian Crusade in the 1230s. The little women in the baths who puzzled so many are for Levitov a Cathar sacrament, the Endura,'or death by venesection [cutting a vein] in order to bleed to death in a warm bath'. The plant drawings that refused to resolve themselves into botanically identifiable species are no problem for Levitov. He stated, "There is not a single so-called botanical illustration that does not contain some Cathari symbol or Isis symbol. The astrological drawings are likewise easy to deal with; The innumerable stars are representative of the stars in Isis' mantle. The reason it has been so difficult to decipher the Voynich Manuscript is that it is not encrypted at all, but merely written in a special script, and is an adaptation of a polyglot oral tongue into a literary language which would be understandable to people who did not understand Latin and to whom this language could be read. Specifically, a highly polyglot form of medieval Flemish with a large number of Old French and Old High German loan words. Many people disagree with his claims.

Some of the symbols used in the Voynich manuscript are similar to symbols in other scripts or notations. In particular, the following similarities have been noticed:

* Alchemical Symbols
* Early Arabic Numerals
* Latin Shorthand Abbreviations
* Beneventan Script

I wrote an article for Renaissance Magazine titled: The Voynich Manuscript: Drebbel's Lost Notebook? (Issue #53, March 2007). In the article I describe the line of reasoning which led me to believe there is a possibility that Cornelius Drebbel authored the mysterious Voynich Manuscript. Basically, I felt that certain objects in the Voynich bore a striking resemblance to early microscopes. If they are microscopes, then the author of the Voynich would have been very familiar with this technology. This points to Drebbel as an author. He was making and selling microscopes by 1620, and probably earlier, and actually made at least one "with three brass legs" (Peiresc letter, 1632). The Janssens, while still accepted as the earliest microscope makers (from about 1590) do not seem to have a history or background which would coincide or relate with the Voynich... Drebbel does, in several key ways. As it turns out, he was also appointed the Chief Alchemist to Rudolf II's court at about the time the Voynich first appears there. In the court, he rubbed elbows with Kepler, who wrote and published Dioptrice in 1610/11. Kepler described microscopes in this work. In addition, looking through the Voynich, and at Drebbel's style of illustration and artwork, I felt there were compelling similarities.

After looking this page over, check out my New Atlantis page. Francis Bacon's New Atlantis was partly inspired by Cornelis Drebbel and his inventions. Also, there are very interesting parallels between New Atlantis and the illustrations in the VMs... including, but not limited to, my perceived optics. Baths with nudes, grafted plants and animals, both unidentifiable, and more. Could there be a Drebbel/Bacon/New Atlantis/Voynich connection? I do not know, but the similarities are striking... if one were to construct a mock "Bible of New Atlantis", it would not look much different than the VMs, I think.

On the left is an f88r tube from the Voynich. Next to it is a 3D computer image I made to recreate it as a "real object". For a texture I used moroccan leather from an image of a book, which looked close the the Voynich illustration's pattern. Note the bluish/green color the illustrator chose for the top of this object.

I'm not sure that Drebbel authored the entire manuscript but, maybe he was responsible for one section. It's quite the mystery!

-- THE BEAST (in the Bible's Book of Revelation, the Beast is the Antichrist, the Son of Satan, who is prophesied to rise to power as a Satanic imitation of Christ during the End Times in the future, before Armageddon)
-- THE EVILS
-- DEATH
-- CURSED
-- PUT AWAY EVIL FROM AMONG YOU
-- PLANT, A VINE (illustrations of plants are in the Voynich Manuscript)
The next matrix was at Psalm 49:11 - 89:11, and it contains:
-- VOYNICH (ELS=4132)
-- CODE
-- STRANGE
Also:
-- GRASS
-- BEAST
-- THORNS (in the "Omen/Damian" movies about the Antichrist, the Antichrist is named Damian Thorne; also some plants have thorns)
The next matrix was at Joshua 18:10 - Judges 4:24, and it contains:
-- VOYNICH (ELS=873)
-- CODE
-- DECODE
Also:
-- WRITTEN IN THE BOOK

In conclusion, there are words appearing in the matrices above that may indicate the Voynich Manuscript does have a Satanic connection of some kind. And there also is a mention of plants (PLANT, GRASS, THORNS, A VINE), and the Voynich Manuscript does have illustrations of plants.

Lets find the code Guys! "Voynich_manuscript"
Did I not hear this before "elaborate hoax" so if you can not read it must be a hoax! Don't they apply the same to the Bible because they can not understand & read it?
So they started very early with making up Hoaxes.
So much for the professionals not that smart after all!
http://wapedia.mobi/en/Voynich_manuscript
The Voynich manuscript is a mysterious illustrated book with incomprehensible contents. It is thought to have been written between approximately 1450 and 1520 by an unknown author in an unidentified script and language.

Over its recorded existence, the Voynich manuscript has been the object of intense study by many professional and amateur cryptographers, including some top American and British codebreakers of World War II fame (all of whom failed to decrypt a single word). This string of failures has turned the Voynich manuscript into a famous subject of historical cryptology, but it has also given weight to the theory that the book is simply an elaborate hoax — a meaningless sequence of arbitrary symbols.
Smart Guys to know about the Governments Elite manipulation Games
http://wapedia.mobi/en/History_of_cryptography
Cryptography has a long tradition in religious writing likely to offend the dominant culture or political authorities. Perhaps the most famous is the 'Number of the Beast' from the Book of Revelations in the Christian New Testament. '666' might be a cryptographic (i.e., encrypted) way of concealing a dangerous reference; many scholars believe it's a concealed reference to the Roman Empire, or more likely to the Emperor Nero himself, (and so to Roman persecution policies) that would have been understood by the initiated (who 'had the key to understanding'), and yet be safe or at least deniable (and so 'less' dangerous) if it came to the attention of the authorities. At least for orthodox Christian writing, most of the need for such concealment ended with Constantine's conversion and the adoption of Christianity as the official religion of the Empire.
SYMBOLS BIBLE
http://www.pacinst.com/efh/chapter11/666.html
Thus, the official title of the pope is Vicarius Filii Dei, Vicar of the Son of God. (A vicar is a substitute in office.) A person’s number was obtained by adding the numerical values of the letters in his name, that is, the values of the letters in the Roman numeral numbering system. If the letter had no value, the value of zero was assigned. For example, the value of I is one; the value of V is five; and the value of X is ten. There was no “U” in the Latin alphabet; the letter “V” is the correct letter. (This is the reason why sometimes inscriptions on older public buildings use a “V” instead of “U” — for instance, PVBLIC LIBRARY.) The values of the letters of this name, Vicarius Filii Dei, add up to 666, exactly as predicted in Revelation 13:18!
http://www.pacinst.com/efh/chapter11/666.jpg
No other power which has ever existed has precisely fulfilled every one of these fourteen points of identity as does the papacy. No other power has ever existed that even comes close to fulfilling these fourteen points of identity from the pages of the Bible. There have been many attempts made to throw the onus of this prophecy away from the pope and the Catholic Church, such as fitting the nations of empire into a different sequence than history shows. Many ingenious schemes have been devised to show that this number, 666, applies to other men, but these schemes are an obvious attempt to sidestep prophecy.
V = 5
O = 1
Y = 0
N = 0
I = 1
C =100
H = 0

http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/psalms/psalm107.htm
1 [Psalm 107 A hymn inviting those who have been rescued by God to give praise (Psalm 107:1-3). Four archetypal divine rescues are described, each ending in thanksgiving: from the sterile desert (Psalm 107:4-9), from imprisonment in gloom (Psalm 107:10-16), from mortal illness (Psalm 107:17-22), and from the angry sea (Psalm 107:23-32). The number four connotes totality, all the possible varieties of rescue. The same saving activity of God is shown in Israel's history (Psalm 107:33-41); whenever the people were endangered God rescued them. The last verses invite people to ponder the persistent saving acts of God (Psalm 107:42-43).

2 [33-41] God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 18-19, which the psalm sees as the destruction of the wicked inhabitants of Canaan to prepare the way for Israel (Psalm 107:33-34). God then led Israel through the desert to give them a fertile land (Psalm 107:35-38) and protected them from every danger (Psalm 107:39-41).

On the other hand, Revelation 17:5 describes a harlot, who represents a false church and is the mother of numerous false churches. “And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”

Thus we see that a woman in Bible prophecy represents a church.

The chart below summarizes the basic keys to understanding Bible prophecy.

And it is no coincidence if it is a galaxy or solar system map, since the Rodin Coils design is based on the vortex phenomenon I guess it could be called. That is the pattern a galaxy or solar system follows, and its a force that exists even on planets, and also in even smaller ways. The most obvious way is the clockwise, anti clockwise flow of water going down the drain. Our planet, probably due to our planets rotation (or causing it?) has a vortex field within it, and it is much of the reason why water is draining our clockwise and anti clockwise depending on wether you are north or south of the equator.

I remember something about it being connected somehow, as Hagbard has already pointed out, to the Mystery Schools.

Will have a good read through..........

In 1761, the seven European stowaways enjoyed fellowship aboard the Arab Dhow.
Speakers of Flemish, German, French and Spanish, they struggled to communicate
little more than their fierce job of discovery. In fact, they were crying with
God-sent joy. All of them were red grape-treaders, that was the connection.
Despite their .. ignorance, at some level they grasped that massive doses of
the juice had protected them from the plague known as the Red Death.
Twenty-fourth century scientists would discover that this was resveratrol, a
chemical found in grape skins rather than the juice of the fruit itself.
But that was a detail of little consequence to this elated band of survivors.
They knew their Old Testament apocalypses well enough to know that Jesus had
saved them from extinction. Not a sparrow falls to earth that God does not see.
And after all, were these Europeans little more than sparrows, flying from a dreadful storm?

Could be. Hydroponics have been around for quite a while. When the Conquistadors sacked the Aztec city of Tenochtiotlan in 1520 they found hydroponic farms in the lakes nearby. They were built on huge wooden rafts.

Thanks so much! I honestly think they did not translate it already. The script (each individual character) is harder to differentiate than Georgian (ქართული) and Tamil (தமிழ்) when written using a hand script. I'm going to check to see if I can find any scripts that are similar. :)

It looks strangely familiar, although I don't know how. It could be some extinct natural language, although the prevailing theory is that it's an artificial language and script. But it's amazing and delightful how some languages today use independant scripts, like Georgian. Years ago more and more did. We are living in a "linguicidal" age. In 18oo there were over 15,000 languiages spoken by him,ans in this world. Today there are barely 4000.

Oddly though the Voynich Script obeys Zipf's Law so it is not just a series of random squiggles that someone wrote for a joke. Decyphering an unknown script can take centuries. What we need is some equivalent of the Rosetta Stone, a Greek-Egyptian bilingual text that allowed scolars to decypher Ancient Egyptian.

Yes I reckon that ms,which was found nr rome in 1912,right,I reckon..it found in what had been being used as a jesuit college,with a whole lot of other old texts,or manuscripts..I just read that its from around 1586 (& that theres 360 pages not 240?!) this was the time of Rudolph 2nd of Bohemia,pretty occult type guy,collected dwarfs,kept a regiment of giants(everyone here knows giants exisred,right?I hope so..)..it was the time of the Rosicrucian conspiracy,and surely that page,with 7 women in the (1st) tub?That has to be little pieces of the ancient science-how the Sumerian texts say we were created,by Aruru,(chief geneticist)when she (and Ea) made 7 male and 7 female clones successfully after the 17th prototype,thats got to be part of it..?

You can google "Catharism,Levitov,& the Voynich Manuscript

www.bibliotecapleyades.net/ciencia/esp_ciencia_manuscripto04.htm

I have looked into this for 35 years & I believe it is a Cathar [Gnostic] litergy...a hymnal to be chanted over a person who is dying ,written in a Flemish dialect...

if the above link doesn't work just google it...The real truth is quite simple but for whatever reason it is not widely known...I have a book but can't find it right now...

My advice is look into this idea first because it has the most evidense t back it up..Terence Mckenna came to this same conclusion before
he died ten years ago...IT IS A CATHAR LITERGY,IMO

ps.I think the truth has been supressed because the gnostics are dead on about so many things & are a big enemy of the Catholic church,,,If anyone has any evidence to refute what I have writen here I would very much like to see it...

Interesting ideas, guys. Thanks:)

In Illuminati IV Chris Everard reckons that the women in the water are the Greek oracles and that the pipes are spirit trumpets. I doubt the second bit; the pipes look more like plumbing of some kind connected to the pools of water.

Everard also says that the Voynich Manuscript is definitely a grimoire, a book of magick spells. Interestingly the pages were not originally numbered, but somebody has written numbers, in conventional Arabic digits, in the corners and Everard claims that the handwriting is John Dee's. Dee was an occultist and magician employed by Queen Elizabeth I.
