-Thought you meant Hanson as in the boy band at first but you meant the movie howoever, I've not seen it nor really am into hockey...

-Bob & Doug I have never found very funny, not that I am offended, it's just not my type of comedy.

-Terreance & Phillip, see above on Bob & Doug.

I have a real hilarious joke though.

America.

This is a devastating read, we have treated those who have given us a place to live so terribly, I don't think there is anything that could be done to aid in their sorrow.

I love OGOPOGO! I was fascinated with it since I was a kid and saw the classic 60's footage.

I'll never forget one of the eye witness accounts, a mother who was at the lake with her little daughter and saw three huge humps come rolling out of the water right next to the dock. She said it was bigger than the dock and she flipped out screaming at her daughter to get away from shore etc. I remember even as a kid feeling that the mother was not telling a lie.

I also love Bigfoot and his potential in Canada.

Oh boy...

they had the boarding schools here too. Actually it's what the reservation was founded around (most were).

Baby skeletons found in the walls of the church etc... *cough*

The Jesuits were sent by the devil as far as I'm concerned. In Canada they got away with way too much on account of the sparse population.

I'm a white dude from Canada & that was nowhere in our "history" books, obviously.

As far as ol' Oggie goes, I love the original Native telling of it. I read a lot of their stories today & it kinda inspired this thread with their tellings of Wendigos, Ogopogo (I forget his oringal name) as well as the Bigfoot.

These links look good, thank you for posting :).
Your welcome. :)

The strangest thing I've ever read...a Canadian who doesn't like hockey!

I love the story of Oak Island. I first heard of it about a year ago. It sounds like something completely made up, like some crazy legend. But there it is, as real as can be. It's a strange world we live in.

I have a shovel. Anybody want to go up there and dig with me?

still making my way through your links, very good reads!

on the wendigo trial on wiki, there are a lot of strange circumstances:

The elderly brothers were charged with murdering Wahsakapeequay, Joseph's daughter-in-law, the year before. They were held at Norway House to await trial. Meanwhile, newspapers across Canada picked up the story and printed sensational headlines of murder and devil-worship. Across the country, people demanded convictions, while the police conducting the trial saw an opportunity for fame and advancement.
On September 30, Jack Fiddler escaped captivity during a walk outside. He hanged himself nearby and was found dead later in the day.

Jack escaped so he could commit suicide? That's a little odd. But it seems pretty accurate that the press would be all over this and slanting the news to inform all the new settlers of these dangerous "devil worshippers" in the woods. The thought that spirits were possessing the people and turning them to cannibalism is very disturbing. I wonder if this is related to modern loomie rituals like Arizona Wilder described. Nasty stuff.

also liked the one with the "Devils Hole":

http://www.niagarafrontier.com/image/limestonecave.jpg

Time passed on, and another of our young men descended into the cavern; he returned in a few hours, a raving maniac, and his hair, which had been black and glossy as a Raven had become white as snow. Then came the word that a paleface, Jean Cabot, had landed on the shore of the great sea, convinced that the spirit of evil lived in this deep, dark hole, and that the fate of the red man depended upon his not being disturbed.

It is very interesting. Even with the technology we have today, we still can't get all the way down there. How did they manage to set this thing up back then? It's difficult to even come up with a halfway decent theory on it. It's a mystery covered in a mystery and hand-dipped in even more mystery. Crazy stuff.

They killed Jack Fiddler made an example out of him & put the rest of the prominent Native Cheifs in jail so their communities would have no other choice but to accept White rule. Simple
