There is a lot of information to read and absorb here. To make it easier to find info. and read threads please refrain from quoting an entire post.

When people are replying to a long post, just quote the relevant section and if all you wanna add to somebody's post is "good post mate" just quote the first line and add 'etc.' to the end of it. I'm getting bloody sick of scrolling through half a page of quotes.

And don't be afraid to use the edit button instead of making consecutive posts (unless you need to).

Mods, wadda ya reckon?

ps - in Aus broadband is crap and a lot of people are still on dial up. I've just gone from 28.8 kbs to about 250 kbps. Scrolling through irrelevant quoting is a pain in the arse.

I agree with you hologram. There is really no need for people to quote entire posts, especially when they are long ones. A simple quoted copy and paste is less cumbersome on the threads.

In case people don't know how to do this, simply copy the piece of text you wish to reply to before you reply, and instead of pusing the quote button, chose the reply post function, then paste the bit you copied into your new message box, highlight it with your mouse, then push the quote button (the little yellow square thingy with writing on it top right of the message box) and then you'll your quote all ready to go.

Or hit the quote button and just delete the parts you don't need to reference. :)

True!

But make sure you don't delete the [QUOTE] thingy at either end or it won't appear as a quote. :D

thanks. and what about lengthy tomes copied from somewhere else? i wish i could just get the "meat of the nut", then go back and read the whole thing in it's original, pristine location. sometimes the color of a website, the fonts, the images used, tell me something about the source.

and, i'm as interested in reading about the poster's thoughts and feelings about the piece, and sharing pertinent, meaningful personal experience, as i am in the essay.

but maybe that's just me. i'm wierd that way. :p

Here, here. A paragraph or two with a link does the job, or your thoughts on a piece with a link to it.

I agree wholeheartedly on this one. I actually do NOT read the postings that are a just a copy/paste of someone else's writings.

What do YOU think about this? What is YOUR take on it? I want to know what makes YOU tick. Give an overview, sure, but just post the link pleeease. I will then click on the link if it is of interest to me and I have not already read it.
