On the 19th of November 2007 an English tourist on holiday in Portland, Oregon was violently assaulted by a member of the bar staff at the Triple Nickel bar in Portland, Oregon, USA. The tourist was shot 3 times with a pepper spray directly in the eyes at a range of only one metre and suffered serious damage to his eyes. The incident occurred after the tourist left the bar for 30 seconds to see if there was anywhere to get some food. When he reetered the Triple Nickel pub the 28 year old tourist was harrassed for his ID card by a male bar staff member with long hair slouched on a stool. Having only been outside for a moment and having already previousely shown his British passport at the bar the tourist refused. The Triple Nickel bar staff member reacted by physically dragging the tourist outside despite the tourist needing to retrieve his laptop computer which remained in the bar. Once outside, the Triple Nickel bar staff member threatened the tourist with his pepper spray weapon. When the tourist asked, "why are you threatening me?" the Triple Nickel bar staff member shot the tourist repeatedly with the pepper spray weapon. The incident demonstrated the contempt this establishment has for its customers as well as how bar staff members in Oregon and elsewhere in the USA are agents of the fascist US government.
"A line has been crossed" the tourist said and he asked that "all members of the community refuse to patronize the Triple Nickel or any other bar that would peper spray customers for refusing to show ID".
