‘Nine Facts About Climate Change’ the Media Don’t Want You to Know

As NewsBusters previously reported(See Link #1-next post), there is a climate change skeptics conference going on in Canberra, Australia. One of the function’s organizers is the influential Lavoisier Group(See Link #2-next post) whose co-founder Ray Evans has written a fascinating publication on this subject that the media and global warming alarmists would hate for Americans to read.

http://edition.cnn.com/2000/WORLD/americas/12/04/canada.climatetalks.ap/story.global.warming.jpg

Simply called “Nine Facts About Climate Change,” (See Link #3 -next post) this piece carefully outlined the major issues concerning the anthropogenic global warming debate while countering claims by the alarmists including former Vice President Al Gore.

Evans wonderfully categorized the problem at hand in his introduction (emphasis mine throughout):

In January 2006 I wrote a pamphlet entitled Nine Lies about Global Warming in which I sought to summarise for the lay reader the state of the debate about increasing atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, and the widespread predictions of catastrophic global warming which would ensue as a consequence of man’s use of fossil fuels. Despite the inherent scientific implausibility of these predictions, and the complete lack of empirical evidence to support them, a number of current political leaders and former leaders, notably UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, former US Vice President Al Gore and Australian Labor Leader Kim Beazley, have embraced these predictions. The Environmentalist movement throughout the West has united behind global warming as its primary campaign ambition, and the political power of the Environmentalist movement has generated very large expenditures as a consequence.

Evans’ introduction continued:

The science debate is at the heart of the global warming campaign. On one side of that debate we have those prominent scientists who preach the gospel of anthropogenic (man-made) carbon dioxide-generated global warming. Without exception, their careers have been made in the shadowy world where science and politics intersect; a world described by the once celebrated but now forgotten novelist of the 1950s, CP Snow. Lord May and Sir David King in the UK, and James Hansen in the US, are outstanding examples of the genre. On the other side of the debate is a long and growing list of scientists whose careers have been built on successful research into the extraordinarily complex physics and chemistry of the earth’s atmosphere and oceans, and the influence which the Sun has on the earth’s climate. The most recent example of devastating critique of the anthropogenist carbon dioxide school comes from William Gray, the doyen of American hurricane scientists.

After his introduction, Evans elaborated on the following nine facts:

(1) Climate change is a constant. The Vostok Ice Cores show five brief interglacial periods from 415,000 years ago to the present. The Greenland Ice Cores reveal a Minoan Warm Period 1450–1300 BC, a Roman Warm Period 250–0 BC, the Mediaeval Warm Period 800–1100AD, the Little Ice Age and the late 20th Century Warm Period 1900–2010 AD.
(2) Carbon dioxide is necessary for all life on earth and increasing atmospheric concentrations are beneficial to plant growth, particularly in arid conditions. Because the radiation properties of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are already saturated, increasing atmospheric concentrations beyond current levels will have no discernible effect on global temperatures.
(3) The twentieth century was almost as warm as the centuries of the Mediaeval Warm Period, an era of great achievement in European civilisation. The recent warm period, 1976–2000, appears to have come to an end and astro-physicistswho study sunspot behaviour predict that the next 25–50 years could be a coolperiod similar to the Dalton Minimum of the 1790s-1820s.
(4) The evidence linking anthropogenic (man-made) carbon dioxide emissions and current warming is limited to a correlation which holds only for the period 1976 to 2000. Attempts to construct an holistic theory in which atmospheric carbon dioxide controls the radiation balance of the earth, and thus determines average global temperatures, have failed.
(5) The anthropogenists claim that the overwhelming majority of scientists are agreed on the anthropogenic carbon dioxide theory of climate control; that the science is settled and the debate is over; and that scientific sceptics are in the pay of the fossil fuel industries and their arguments are thus fatally compromised.
(6) These claims are an expression of hope, not of reality. Anthropogenists such as former US Vice President Al Gore blame anthropogenic emissions of CO2 for high temperatures, droughts, melting polar ice caps, rising sea levels and retreating glaciers, and a decline in the polar bear population.
(7) They also blame anthropogenic CO2 for blizzards, unseasonable snow, freezing weather generally and for hurricanes, cyclones and other extreme weather events. There is no evidence at all to justify these assertions. Increasing atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide will have negligible impact on the earth’s radiation balance and will promote plant growth everywhere. There is no need to sequester CO2 in the ground or to subsidise nuclear or other non-carbon based methods of energy production.
(8) ‘Tropical’ diseases such as malaria and dengue fever are not related to temperature but to poverty, lack of sanitation and the absence of mosquito control practices.
(9) The decarbonisation of the world’s economy would, if attempted, cause huge economic dislocation. Any democratic government which seriously sought to fulfil decarbonisation commitments would lose office. Shutting down coal-fired power stations and replacing them with renewable energy sources such as windmills or solar panels will cause unemployment and economic deprivation.

Those that are interested in the details should read the entire piece.(See Link #3 - below post)

As a comical aside, anarticle (See Link #4 - below post) about this conference in the Australian publication The Age deliciously reported (emphasis mine throughout, please forgive the vulgarity):

In an interview with The Age last month, Mr Evans acknowledged that last September's visit by former US vice-president Al Gore to promote his Oscar-winning global-warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth had helped generate a lot of publicity on climate change.

But he described Mr Gore's film as "bullshit from beginning to end".

"The science from the anthropology point of view has collapsed. The carbon-dioxide link is increasingly recognised as irrelevant," Mr Evans said.

I love it. Evans then touched on a side of this debate that speaks for America just as it does Australia:

"But the Government's frightened.

"Cabinet, from what I understand, is by and large still sceptical of climate change, but it is scared of the drought and worried about how Labor will make use of it."

Disturbingly similar to the political situation in the U.S. where the left is clearly using this issue to frighten the masses, wouldn’t you agree?

Australian Knight Rips Al Gore and Global Warming ‘Campaign of Alarmism'

Posted by Noel Sheppard on February 28, 2007
http://newsbusters.org/node/11103

Sir Arvi Parbo is likely not a household name in America. However, the knighted business mogul originally from Estonia is highly regarded in Australia, so much so that he was the keynote speaker at Wednesday’s gathering of climate change skeptics in Canberra.

http://www.strathdon.com.au/images/opening/landy.jpg

As reported by News.com, during his address, Sir Parbo had some rather harsh words for Dr. Global Warming, aka Al Gore, as well as for all alarmists including those in the media:

A CONCERTED and well-organised campaign has created alarm over human-induced climate change, industrial magnate Sir Arvi Parbo says.

Sir Arvi also said today key international reports warning of climate change, including Al Gore's documentary An Inconvenient Truth, are biased and scrutiny of them has been suppressed. [emphasis added in second paragraph]

Sir Arvi was just getting warmed up (emphasis mine throughout):

Sir Arvi said he had kept an open mind through 20 years of listening to debate about climate change but was now witnessing a "semi-religious fervour" overshadowing it.

"One must admire the skilful way in which the public has been led to believe that there is no longer any uncertainty, and that disastrous climate change caused by humans is imminent," he said.

Sir Arvi then set his sights on Dr. Global Warming himself:

"The appointment of Mr Al Gore as adviser to the UK Government on climate change is a good example.

"I am not aware of Mr Gore's ranking as a climate scientist but he has undoubted credentials as a politician and someone who knows how to influence public opinion.

"His film, The Inconvenient Truth has been widely publicised, has been seen by, and has influenced millions of people around the world.

"It has been severely criticised for deliberately and grossly exaggerating and distorting the issues and I understand that the recently published summary for policymakers by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change contradicts a number of Mr Gore's major contentions.

"This, in contrast, has had virtually no publicity and no effect on the public."

Sir Arvi then went after the media:

"An uninvolved observer has to conclude that there has been a concerted and well-organised campaign to create worldwide apprehension and alarm.

"Reading and listening to the media and to political discussion, this campaign has succeeded. In fact it may have succeeded too well."

Let’s hope not, Sir.

The Lavoisier Group

http://www.lavoisier.com.au/pages/lav-aboutus.html

Although the Kyoto Protocol has yet to be ratified (and many observers do not believe it will ever be ratified) the Australian Government is nevertheless moving rapidly towards unilateral compliance with its Kyoto commitments, on the grounds "that Australia has to show leadership". In December 1997, at Kyoto, Australia accepted a 2010 emissions target of 108% of our 1990 emissions, but such acceptance remains conditional on ratification of the Protocol. Ratification would commit all those countries (Annexe B nations) who accepted constraints on emissions at Kyoto, to actually impose massive cutbacks on their consumption of carbon-based fuels. The US, for example, agreed to a 92% target; Canada, to 93%. Only Iceland, with 110%, has a target which is more "generous" than Australia.

The Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO) is already moving to complete a submission on the introduction of an emissions trading scheme in Australia based largely on a system of tradeable permits, and is now considering various options concerning the allocation of these permits. It is estimated that an emissions permit trading regime will result in something in the order of $12 billion per year in government revenue.

The drive towards implementing the Kyoto Protocol is based on assumptions concerning the effect of increased concentrations of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere on global temperatures. The assumption is that increasing concentrations result in increasing temperatures, both present and to come. This assumption has been subject to vigorous challenge from a number of eminent scientists.

Also in contention is the impact of carbon taxes on the Australian economy. Carbon-withdrawal enthusiasts argue that taxing emissions of CO2 will be good for the Australian economy. Others believe that given Australia's position as a major exporter of energy intensive products such as aluminium, a carbon tax will result in off-shore relocation of many of Australia's most important export industries.

Given the doubt and uncertainty about both the science and the economic consequences of Kyoto, a group of Australians, concerned that there has been very little ongoing public debate about these proposals, founded the Lavoisier Group. We are of the view that the science behind global warming policy is far less certain than its protagonists claim, and we also believe that the economic damage which Australia would suffer, if a carbon tax of the magnitude canvassed in AGO documents were imposed, would be far, far greater than is currently appreciated in Canberra.

The Group held its inaugural Conference in late May 2000. Selected papers from that Conference are available on this Website.

Greenhouse sceptics to congregate

Katharine Murphy and Brendan Nicholson, Canberra and Richard Baker
February 28, 2007

http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/gre...2338625822.html

HARD-CORE global warming sceptics will descend on Canberra today for the release of a book claiming environmentalism is the new religion.

Former mining executive Arvi Parbo will launch Ray Evans' new publication, Nine Facts About Climate Change, at a function at Parliament House.

The book claims climate change is nothing new and declares Howard Government investments in solar power and in cleaning up coal a "complete waste of taxpayers' money".

"Environmentalism has largely superseded Christianity as the religion of the upper classes in Europe and to a lesser extent in the United States," Mr Evans says in the publication.

"It is a form of religious belief which fosters a sense of moral superiority in the believer, but which places no importance on telling the truth," he says.

"The global warming scam has been, arguably, the most extraordinary example of scientific fraud in the postwar period."

The function is organised by the Lavoisier Group, founded in 2000 by Ray Evans and former mining executive Hugh Morgan to test claims that global warming is the result of human activity.

Mr Evans is a longstanding friend and colleague of Mr Morgan and a committed activist on issues such as workplace reform through the HR Nicholls Society, which he founded with federal Treasurer Peter Costello.

Former Labor minister Peter Walsh also will attend today's function, and the group will hold a dinner to be addressed by climate-change sceptic Chris de Freitas, Associate Professor in the School of Geography, Geology and Environmental Science at Auckland University.

Liberal MP Dennis Jensen has organised the function on behalf of the Lavoisier Group and expects about 50 people to attend the dinner.

Dr Jensen, a nuclear physicist, has said he is not convinced that human activity is responsible for global warming.

"But the Government's frightened.

"Cabinet, from what I understand, is by and large still sceptical of climate change, but it is scared of the drought and worried about how Labor will make use of it."

Excellent, thanks, thats my take on it..despite many catastrophes that can occurr naturally, and perhaps there are those coming, still dont buy the global warming stuff..and perusing a lot of scientists sites also brought me t that conclusion. Wonderful to read some snazzy real opinions and facts! I wonder if weather changes that are currently happening will get worse simply because there are natural things that may be happening..its happened before. As for Al Gore, he belongs to that society that will always have somewhere to go if things get ugly on top of Earth..unless they wont let him in:-)

Hmm, there's something about this Lavoisier Group that bothers me. They claim that environmentalism is nothing more than a "religion" that "places no importance on telling the truth." This seems kind of extreme and simplistic to me. It reminds me of the kind of charged, propagandistic language used by caustic right-wing pundits.

Angry ranters like Andrew Bolt of the infamous Herald-Sun (a Rupert Murdoch tabloid aimed average working folk) like to frame concern for the environment (which we depend on) as "neo-pagan eco-fascism," supposedly worshiped by "elitist liberals" who have, in their arrogance, turned away from Christianity.

Obviously, climate change is a politicized issue. What we believe about climate change will likely determine things such as where we will get our energy in the future. For this reason, there is something telling about the fact that this Lavoisier Group is co-founded by former mining executive Hugh Morgan. I wonder if this man would have any political interest in what Australians believe about climate change? Lets see.

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Morgan_(Australian_businessman)

Hugh Matheson Morgan AC, (born 9 September 1940), an Australian businessman, is the son of former Western Mining Corporation CEO Bill Morgan, and was himself CEO of Western Mining Corporation from 1990 to 2003, and President of the Business Council of Australia from 2003 to 2005. The Howard Government appointed him to the Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of Australia in 1996[1]. He also serves as the Chairman of the Asia Society AustralAsia Centre.

Morgan is a politically vocal member of the Liberal party. He is sceptical of global warming and opposed to the Kyoto Protocol [1] and, as a member of the Greenhouse Mafia and supporter of the Lavoisier Group [2], has been central to the campaign to prevent the Federal Liberal Government from taking actions to cut emissions[2] (in collaboration with fellow former WMC executive Ray Evans).

In June 2006, Hugh Morgan formed the company Australian Nuclear Energy with Fairfax chairman Ron Walker and fellow mining executive Robert Champion de Crespigny, planning to build nuclear power plants in Australia.[3] Morgan has a 20% stake in the company.[3] Controversially, Prime Minister John Howard revealed that he had a discussion with Mr Walker about the company days before he announced an inquiry into nuclear power (the inquiry predicted that Australia could have 25 nuclear reactors producing a third of the country's electricity by 2050)[4]. Formerly an outspoken opponent of Aboriginal Land Rights (Morgan claimed Native Title threatened Australia's sovereignty), Morgan has more recently spoken of reconciling mining with Aboriginal welfare[5]. With less transparent conservation agreements under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, Morgan flagged how an internationally owned nuclear waste repository could be built[6] (such as the one announced on Aboriginal land[7] late in the Howard Government era).

Details like this are important. To be honest, I'm still not sure on which side of the climate change argument I stand. But as my girlfriend reminds me, wouldn't we be better off using renewable energy and polluting less, regardless?

I find the emissions trading scheme highly suspect at best, but this only means that the emissions trading scheme is questionable - not climate change or environmentalism.

Global Warming because of fossil fuel emissions is a hoax.

Environmentalism on the other hand is about loving our Mother Earth, not polluting it, destroying it and so forth.

I have never turned away from Christianity; I have never been a Christian. Concern for the environment, tree-hugging, animism and New-Paganism all go together and should go to together, but this should not be confused with the issue of the fossil fuel emmisions hoax, which is an excuse to raise taxes; further if the atmosphere is CO2 enriched, agriculture will love it and the abundance of agriculture is not what the elites appear to want; Capital thrives when goods are in short supply and there is a high demand.

I think that we are preaching to the converted here.

Generally you have to post something outrageous which many people disagree with to get a response on discussion groups; people seem to like to show how right they are and that others are so wrong.

On other forums here on davidicke.com if you mention the holocaust, then suddenly the dialectical process swings into action and the revisionists come out to play. Similarly with Freemasonry, the Masons come out to play. On the General forum it seems to be an exchange of general chatter.

Never the less, these forums are picked up Google and other engines, and essays posted here will get hit for years to come ever if there is no real 'debate' of the issues and the readers are 'passive;' and probably mostly unable to the defend the media propaganda.

My girlfriend is a wiccanist and is a very educated and intelligent person, but I notice that whenever she gets together with other women of her ilk, all they ever seem to talk about is about 'romance,' 'men' and general 'gossip.' Much of the population seems to be like that, many of the females would rather study the latest handbags, shoes and eyeliners and among the males the favorite two subjects appear to be sex and money.

There is certainly a revolutionary vanguard, but they are the few and the 'chatter' comes from the many.

... wouldn't we be better off using renewable energy and polluting less, regardless?

Renewable energy technologies today are not really 'renewable'

Renewable energies: Sources which are freely available and cannot be easily depleted in a short period of time.

Lets list the most popular ones:

1-Solar energy (heat conversion or electrical production)
2-Wind energy
3-Tides/Waves
4-Geothermal

The only one right now, that could be used as a major power station is Geothermal because of its high power density and the almost undepletable heat from the earth's core. But still, the power output of these facilities divided by the size of the facility, or power density (Watts/kg) is low compared to nuclear (fission or fusion).

As a specie, humans are incoherent with their energy production development. Why not aim at something that will solve forever(or for a long while) our energy demand problem? Do we have an example of that kind of energy production in nature? YES! The SUN! It is a huge nuclear fusion reactor. Why not create 'mini-suns in a can' to extract fusion energy? It is already in production, and it is called fussion reactors. An example of that kind of reactor being currently built for testing is ITER: ITER- The Way to Fusion Power 1 - YouTube
