Maybe this is just a crazy idea, but the moon is too close to the Earth for it to have meteor strikes on the side facing us? For the size of the meteor to dodge earth and hit the moon without burning up in Earths atmosphere? I know they could come at different angles but it makes you wonder why there havent been any recently in thousands of years ... and now im thinking if there was impacts on the moon how come they are hollow? Wouldnt there still be rocks where the impact would be instead of just sand and dust cos nothing could decay them unless these comets/ meteors or whatever can just bounce?
